7All who found them devoured them. Their enemies said, ‘We did nothing wrong in attacking them, for they sinned against the Lord, their true place of rest, and the hope of their ancestors.’

7그들을 만나는 자들이 다 그들을 삼키며 그들의 대적들은 말하기를, 그들이 주 곧 정의의 처소이시며 자기 조상들의 소망이신 주께 죄를 지었기 때문이며 우리는 잘못하지 아니한다, 하였느니라.

7이렇게 주인도 없고 목자도 없이 험악한 산속을 헤매는 양 떼였으니, 그런 양 떼를 만나는 짐승이나 사람들이 모두 마음대로 잡아먹고 끌어 가며 오히려 이렇게 큰소리 치는 원수들이 되고 말았다. '이런 백성은 우리가 죽여도 죄가 되지 않는다. 이 백성이 살아가려면 자기들의 초원이나 마찬가지인 여호와를 섬겼어야 하는데, 그런 주인을 거역하고 초원에서 탈출하였으니 죽어 마땅하다. 그들의 조상들도 그 초원에만 희망을 두고 여호와께 순종하며 살았는데 그 후손들이 어떻게 그런 희망도 버리고 여호와께 반역하면서 살 수가 있겠는가'
