David Made King over All Israel

11Then all Israel came together to David at Hebron, saying, "Indeed we are your bone and your flesh.H3478H6908H1732H2275H559H6106H1320 2"Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD your God said to you, 'You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over My people Israel.'"H8543H8032H7586H4428H3318H935H3478H3068H430H559H7462H5971H3478H5057H1571H3478 3Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. Then they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.H935H2205H3478H4428H2275H1732H3772H1285H2275H6440H3068H4886H1732H4428H3478H1697H3068H3027H8050

The City of David

4And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.H1732H3478H3212H3389H2982H2983H3427H776 5Then the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not come in here!" Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David).H3427H2982H559H1732H935H1732H3920H4686H6726H5892H1732 6Now David said, "Whoever attacks the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain." And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and became chief.H1732H559H5221H2983H7223H7218H8269H3097H1121H6870H5927H7223H5927H7218 7Then David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the City of David.H1732H3427H4679H7121H5892H1732 8And he built the city around it, from the Millo to the surrounding area. Joab repaired the rest of the city.H1129H5892H5439H4407H5439H3097H2421H7605H5892 9Then David went on and became great, and the LORD of hosts was with him.H1732H3212H1980H1419H3068H6635

The Mighty Men of David

10Now these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.H7218H1368H1732H2388H4438H3478H4427H1697H3068H3478 11And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam the son of a Hachmonite, chief of the captains; he had lifted up his spear against three hundred, killed by him at one time.H4557H1368H1732H3434H2453H7218H7991H7970H5782H2595H7969H3967H2491H259H6471 12After him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.H310H499H1121H1734H266H7969H1368 13He was with David at Pasdammim. Now there the Philistines were gathered for battle, and there was a piece of ground full of barley. And the people fled from the Philistines.H1732H6450H6430H622H4421H2513H7704H4392H8184H5971H5127H6440H6430 14But they stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.H3320H8432H2513H5337H5221H6430H3068H3467H1419H8668 15Now three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.H7969H7970H7218H3381H6697H1732H4631H5725H4264H6430H2583H6010H7497 16David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.H1732H4686H6430H5333H1035 17And David said with longing, "Oh, that someone would give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!"H1732H183H559H8248H4325H953H1035H8179 18So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD.H7969H1234H4264H6430H7579H4325H953H1035H8179H5375H935H1732H1732H14H8354H5258H3068 19And he said, "Far be it from me, O my God, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy? For at the risk of their lives they brought it." Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.H559H430H2486H6213H2063H8354H1818H582H5315H5315H935H14H8354H6213H7969H1368 20Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of another three. He had lifted up his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name among these three.H52H251H3097H7218H7969H5782H2595H7969H3967H2491H8034H7969 21Of the three he was more honored than the other two men. Therefore he became their captain. However he did not attain to the first three.H7969H3513H8147H8269H935H7969 22Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.H1141H1121H3077H1121H2428H376H6909H7227H6467H5221H8147H739H4124H3381H5221H738H8432H953H7950H3117 23And he killed an Egyptian, a man of GREAT height, five cubits tall. In the Egyptian's hand there was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear.H5221H4713H376H4060H2568H520H4713H3027H2595H707H4500H3381H7626H1497H2595H4713H3027H2026H2595 24These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men.H6213H1141H1121H3077H8034H7969H1368 25Indeed he was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him over his guard.H2009H3513H7970H935H7969H1732H7760H4928 26Also the mighty warriors were Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,H1368H2428H6214H251H3097H445H1121H1734H1035 27Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,H8054H2033H2503H6397 28Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,H5896H1121H6142H8621H44H6069 29Sibbechai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,H5444H2843H5866H266 30Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,H4121H5200H2466H1121H1196H5200 31Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,H863H1121H7380H1390H1121H1144H1141H6553 32Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,H2360H5158H1608H22H6164 33Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,H5820H978H455H8170 34the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shageh the Hararite,H1121H2044H1493H3129H1121H7681H2043 35Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,H279H1121H7940H2043H465H1121H218 36Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,H2660H4382H281H6397 37Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,H2695H3761H5293H1121H229 38Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri,H3100H251H5416H4006H1121H1905 39Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite (the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah),H6768H5984H5171H1307H5375H3627H3097H1121H6870 40Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,H5896H3505H1619H3505 41Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,H223H2850H2066H1121H304 42Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite (a chief of the Reubenites) and thirty with him,H5721H1121H7877H7206H7218H7206H7970 43Hanan the son of Maachah, Joshaphat the Mithnite,H2605H1121H4601H3146H4981 44Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite,H5814H6254H8091H3273H1121H2369H6200 45Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite,H3043H1121H8113H3109H251H8491 46Eliel the Mahavite, Jeribai and Joshaviah the sons of Elnaam, Ithmah the Moabite,H447H4233H3403H3145H1121H493H3495H4125 47Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.H447H5744H3300H4677
