Peril in Transporting the Ark

13DAVID CONSULTED the captains of thousands and hundreds, even with every leader.H1732H3289H8269H505H3967H5057
2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, If it seems good to you and if it is of the Lord our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brethren who are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites in their cities that have suburbs {and} pasturelands, that they may gather together with us.H1732H559H6951H3478H2895H3068H430H7971H6555H251H7604H776H3478H3548H3881H5892H4054H6908
3And let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it during the days of Saul.H5437H727H430H1875H3117H7586
4And all the assembly agreed to do so, for the thing seemed right in the eyes of all the people.H6951H559H6213H1697H3474H5869H5971
5So David gathered all Israel together, from the Shihor, the brook of Egypt [that marked the southeast border of Palestine], to the entrance of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.H1732H6950H3478H6950H7883H4714H935H2574H935H727H430H7157
6And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, which is called by the name of Him Who sits [enthroned] above the cherubim.H1732H5927H3478H1173H7157H3063H5927H727H430H3068H3427H3742H8034H7121
7And they carried the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio [his brother] drove the cart.H7392H727H430H2319H5699H1004H41H5798H283H5090H5699
8And David and all Israel merrily celebrated before God with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets.H1732H3478H7832H6440H430H5797H7892H3658H5035H8596H4700H2689
9And when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to steady the ark, for the oxen [that were drawing the cart] stumbled {and} were restive.H935H1637H3592H5798H7971H3027H270H727H1241H8058
10And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzza, and He smote him because he touched the ark; and there he died before God.H639H3068H2734H5798H5221H7971H3027H727H4191H6440H430
11And David was offended because the Lord had broken forth upon Uzza; that place to this day is called Perez-uzza [the breaking forth upon Uzza].H1732H2734H3068H6555H6556H5798H4725H7121H6560H3117
12And David was afraid of God that day, and he said, How can I bring the ark of God home to me?H1732H3372H430H3117H559H1963H935H727H430
13So David did not bring the ark home to the City of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite [a Levitical porter born in Gath-rimmon].H1732H5493H727H5892H1732H5186H1004H5654H1663
14And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that he had.H727H430H3427H1004H5654H1004H7969H2320H3068H1288H1004H5654
