The Use of Spiritual Gifts

12NOW ABOUT the spiritual gifts (the special endowments of supernatural energy), brethren, I do not want you to be misinformed.G1161G4012G4152G80G2309G3756G2309G5209G50 2You know that when you were heathen, you were led off after idols that could not speak [habitually] as impulse directed {and} whenever the occasion might arise.G1492G3754G2258G1484G520G4314G880G1497G5613G302G71 3Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking under the power {and} influence of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever] say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can [really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except by {and} under the power {and} influence of the Holy Spirit.G1352G1107G5213G1107G3754G3762G2980G1722G4151G2316G3004G2424G331G2532G3762G1410G2036G2424G2962G1508G1722G40G4151 4Now there are distinctive varieties {and} distributions of endowments (gifts, extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians, due to the power of divine grace operating in their souls by the Holy Spirit) and they vary, but the [Holy] Spirit remains the same.G1161G1526G1243G5486G1161G846G4151 5And there are distinctive varieties of service {and} ministration, but it is the same Lord [Who is served].G2532G1526G1243G1248G2532G846G2962 6And there are distinctive varieties of operation [of working to accomplish things], but it is the same God Who inspires {and} energizes them all in all.G2532G1526G1243G1755G1161G2076G846G2316G3588G1754G3956G1722G3956 7But to each one is given the manifestation of the [Holy] Spirit [the evidence, the spiritual illumination of the Spirit] for good {and} profit.G1161G5321G4151G1325G1538G4314G4851 8To one is given in {and} through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge {and} understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit;G1063G3739G3303G1325G1223G4151G3056G4678G1161G243G3056G1108G2596G846G4151 9To another [wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary powers of healing by the one Spirit;G1161G2087G4102G1722G846G4151G1161G243G5486G2386G1722G846G4151 10To another the working of miracles, to another prophetic insight (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose); to another the ability to discern {and} distinguish between [the utterances of true] spirits [and false ones], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, to another the ability to interpret [such] tongues.G1161G243G1755G1411G1161G243G4394G1161G243G1253G4151G1161G2087G1085G1100G1161G243G2058G1100 11All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired {and} brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.G1161G3956G5023G1754G1520G2532G846G4151G1244G1538G2398G2531G1014 12For just as the body is a unity and yet has many parts, and all the parts, though many, form [only] one body, so it is with Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).G1063G2509G4983G2076G1520G2532G2192G4183G3196G1161G3956G3196G1520G4983G5607G4183G2076G1520G4983G3779G2532G5547 13For by [means of the personal agency of] one [Holy] Spirit we were all, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, baptized [and by baptism united together] into one body, and all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit.G1063G2532G1722G1520G4151G907G2249G3956G907G1519G1520G4983G1535G2453G1535G1672G1535G1401G1535G1658G2532G4222G3956G4222G1519G1520G4151 14For the body does not consist of one limb {or} organ but of many.G2532G1063G4983G2076G3756G1520G3196G235G4183 15If the foot should say, Because I am not the hand, I do not belong to the body, would it be therefore not [a part] of the body?G1437G4228G2036G3754G1510G3756G5495G1510G3756G1537G4983G2076G3756G3844G5124G3756G1537G4983 16If the ear should say, Because I am not the eye, I do not belong to the body, would it be therefore not [a part] of the body?G2532G1437G3775G2036G3754G1510G3756G3788G1510G3756G1537G4983G2076G3756G3844G5124G3756G1537G4983 17If the whole body were an eye, where [would be the sense of] hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where [would be the sense of] smell?G1487G3650G4983G3788G4226G189G1487G3650G189G4226G3750 18But as it is, God has placed {and} arranged the limbs {and} organs in the body, each [particular one] of them, just as He wished {and} saw fit {and} with the best adaptation.G1161G3570G5087G2316G5087G3196G1538G1520G846G1722G4983G2531G2309 19But if [the whole] were all a single organ, where would the body be?G1161G1487G2258G3956G1520G3196G4226G4983 20And now there are [certainly] many limbs {and} organs, but a single body.G1161G3568G3303G4183G3196G1161G1520G4983 21And the eye is not able to say to the hand, I have no need of you, nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.G1161G3788G3756G1410G2036G5495G2192G3756G5532G4675G2228G3825G2776G4228G2192G3756G5532G5216 22But instead, there is [absolute] necessity for the parts of the body that are considered the more weak.G235G4183G3123G3196G4983G1380G5225G772G2076G316 23And those [parts] of the body which we consider rather ignoble are [the very parts] which we invest with additional honor, and our unseemly parts {and} those unsuitable for exposure are treated with seemliness (modesty and decorum),G2532G3739G4983G1380G1511G820G5125G4060G4055G5092G2532G2257G809G2192G4055G2157 24Which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so adjusted (mingled, harmonized, and subtly proportioned the parts of) the whole body, giving the greater honor {and} richer endowment to the inferior parts which lack [apparent importance],G1161G2257G2158G2192G3756G5532G235G2316G4786G4983G4786G1325G4055G5092G5302 25So that there should be no division {or} discord {or} lack of adaptation [of the parts of the body to each other], but the members all alike should have a mutual interest in {and} care for one another.G3363G5600G3363G4978G1722G4983G235G3196G3309G846G3309G5228G240 26And if one member suffers, all the parts [share] the suffering; if one member is honored, all the members [share in] the enjoyment of it.G2532G1535G1520G3196G3958G3956G3196G4841G1535G1520G3196G1392G3956G3196G4796 27Now you [collectively] are Christ's body and [individually] you are members of it, each part severally {and} distinct [each with his own place and function].G1161G5210G2075G4983G5547G2532G3196G1537G3313 28So God has appointed some in the church [for His own use]: first apostles (special messengers); second prophets (inspired preachers and expounders); third teachers; then wonder-workers; then those with ability to heal the sick; helpers; administrators; [speakers in] different (unknown) tongues.G2532G3739G2316G5087G3303G1722G1577G4412G652G1208G4396G5154G1320G1899G1411G1534G5486G2386G484G2941G1085G1100 29Are all apostles (special messengers)? Are all prophets (inspired interpreters of the will and purposes of God)? Are all teachers? Do all have the power of performing miracles?G3361G3956G652G3361G3956G4396G3361G3956G1320G3361G3956G1411 30Do all possess extraordinary powers of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?G3361G2192G3956G5486G2386G3956G3361G2980G1100G3361G3956G1329 31But earnestly desire {and} zealously cultivate the greatest {and} best gifts {and} graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all--love].G1161G2206G2909G5486G2532G2089G1166G5213G2596G5236G3598
