Samuel Anoints Saul

10Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: "Is it not because the LORD has anointed you commander over His inheritance?H8050H3947H6378H8081H3332H7218H5401H559H3068H4886H5057H5159 2"When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, 'The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now your father has ceased caring about the donkeys and is worrying about you, saying, "What shall I do about my son?"'H3212H5978H3117H4672H8147H582H7354H6900H1366H1144H6766H559H860H1980H1245H4672H1H5203H1697H860H1672H559H6213H1121 3"Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.H2498H1973H935H436H8396H4672H7969H582H5927H430H1008H259H5375H7969H1423H259H5375H7969H3603H3899H259H5375H5035H3196 4"And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hands.H7592H7965H5414H8147H3899H3947H3027 5"After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.H310H935H1389H430H5333H6430H935H5892H6293H2256H5030H3381H1116H5035H8596H2485H3658H6440H5012 6"Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.H7307H3068H6743H5012H2015H312H376 7"And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you.H226H935H6213H4672H3027H430 8"You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and surely I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do."H3381H6440H1537H3381H5927H5930H2076H2077H8002H7651H3117H3176H935H3045H6213 9So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day.H6437H7926H3212H8050H430H2015H312H3820H226H935H3117 10When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.H935H1389H2256H5030H7125H7307H430H6743H5012H8432 11And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, "What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"H3045H865H8032H7200H5012H5030H5971H559H376H7453H1121H7027H7586H5030 12Then a man from there answered and said, "But who is their father?" Therefore it became a proverb: "Is Saul also among the prophets?"H376H6030H559H1H4912H7586H5030 13And when he had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.H3615H5012H935H1116 14Then Saul's uncle said to him and his servant, "Where did you go?" So he said, "To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they were nowhere to be found, we went to Samuel."H7586H1730H559H5288H575H1980H559H1245H860H7200H369H935H8050 15And Saul's uncle said, "Tell me, please, what Samuel said to you."H7586H1730H559H5046H8050H559 16So Saul said to his uncle, "He told us plainly that the donkeys had been found." But about the matter of the kingdom, he did not tell him what Samuel had said.H7586H559H1730H5046H5046H860H4672H1697H4410H8050H559H5046

Saul Proclaimed King

17Then Samuel called the people together to the LORD at Mizpah,H8050H6817H5971H3068H4709 18and said to the children of Israel, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.'H559H1121H3478H559H3068H430H3478H5927H3478H4714H5337H3027H4714H3027H4467H3905 19"But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him, 'No, set a king over us!' Now therefore, present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your clans."H3117H3988H430H3467H7451H6869H559H7760H4428H3320H6440H3068H7626H505 20And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen.H8050H7626H3478H7126H7626H1144H3920 21When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found.H7626H1144H7126H4940H4940H4309H3920H7586H1121H7027H3920H1245H4672 22Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, "Has the man come here yet?" And the LORD answered, "There he is, hidden among the equipment."H7592H3068H376H935H1988H3068H559H2244H3627 23So they ran and brought him from there; and when he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward.H7323H3947H3320H8432H5971H1361H5971H7926H4605 24And Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?" So all the people shouted and said, "Long live the king!"H8050H559H5971H7200H3068H977H5971H5971H7321H559H2421H4428 25Then Samuel explained to the people the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.H8050H1696H5971H4941H4410H3789H5612H3240H6440H3068H8050H7971H5971H7971H376H1004 26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched.H7586H1980H1004H1390H3212H2428H3820H430H5060 27But some rebels said, "How can this man save us?" So they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.H1121H1100H559H3467H959H935H4503H2790
