Saul among Prophets

10Then Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, kissed him and said, "Has not the LORD anointed you a ruler over His inheritance?H8050H3947H6378H8081H3332H7218H5401H559H3068H4886H5057H5159
2"When you go from me today, then you will find two men close to Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, 'The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. Now behold, your father has ceased to be concerned about the donkeys and is anxious for you, saying," What shall I do about my son? "'H3212H5978H3117H4672H8147H582H7354H6900H1366H1144H6766H559H860H1980H1245H4672H1H5203H1697H860H1672H559H6213H1121
3"Then you will go on further from there, and you will come as far as the oak of Tabor, and there three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a jug of wine;H2498H1973H935H436H8396H4672H7969H582H5927H430H1008H259H5375H7969H1423H259H5375H7969H3603H3899H259H5375H5035H3196
4and they will greet you and give you two [loaves] of bread, which you will accept from their hand.H7592H7965H5414H8147H3899H3947H3027
5"Afterward you will come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is; and it shall be as soon as you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and a lyre before them, and they will be prophesying.H310H935H1389H430H5333H6430H935H5892H6293H2256H5030H3381H1116H5035H8596H2485H3658H6440H5012
6"Then the Spirit of the LORD will come upon you mightily, and you shall prophesy with them and be changed into another man.H7307H3068H6743H5012H2015H312H376
7"And it shall be when these signs come to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires; for God is with you.H226H935H6213H4672H3027H430
8"And you shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you should do."H3381H6440H1537H3381H5927H5930H2076H2077H8002H7651H3117H3176H935H3045H6213
9Then it happened when he turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart; and all those signs came about on that day.H6437H7926H3212H8050H430H2015H312H3820H226H935H3117
10When they came to the hill there, behold, a group of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him mightily, so that he prophesied among them.H935H1389H2256H5030H7125H7307H430H6743H5012H8432
11And it came about, when all who knew him previously saw that he prophesied now with the prophets, that the people said to one another, "What has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"H3045H865H8032H7200H5012H5030H5971H559H376H7453H1121H7027H7586H5030
12And a man there answered and said, "Now, who is their father?" Therefore it became a proverb: "Is Saul also among the prophets?"H376H6030H559H1H4912H7586H5030
13When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.H3615H5012H935H1116
14Now Saul's uncle said to him and his servant, "Where did you go?" And he said," To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they could not be found, we went to Samuel. "H7586H1730H559H5288H575H1980H559H1245H860H7200H369H935H8050
15And Saul's uncle said, "Please tell me what Samuel said to you."H7586H1730H559H5046H8050H559
16So Saul said to his uncle, "He told us plainly that the donkeys had been found." But he did not tell him about the matter of the kingdom which Samuel had mentioned.H7586H559H1730H5046H5046H860H4672H1697H4410H8050H559H5046

Saul Publicly Chosen King

17Thereafter Samuel called the people together to the LORD at Mizpah;H8050H6817H5971H3068H4709
18and he said to the sons of Israel, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'I brought Israel up from Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians, and from the power of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.'H559H1121H3478H559H3068H430H3478H5927H3478H4714H5337H3027H4714H3027H4467H3905
19"But you today rejected your God, who delivers you from all your calamities and your distresses; yet you have said, 'No, but set a king over us!' Now therefore, present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your clans."H3117H3988H430H3467H7451H6869H559H7760H4428H3320H6440H3068H7626H505
20Thus Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot.H8050H7626H3478H7126H7626H1144H3920
21Then he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its families, and the Matrite family was taken. And Saul the son of Kish was taken; but when they looked for him, he could not be found.H7626H1144H7126H4940H4940H4309H3920H7586H1121H7027H3920H1245H4672
22Therefore they inquired further of the LORD, "Has the man come here yet?" So the LORD said, "Behold, he is hiding himself by the baggage."H7592H3068H376H935H1988H3068H559H2244H3627
23So they ran and took him from there, and when he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward.H7323H3947H3320H8432H5971H1361H5971H7926H4605
24And Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen? Surely there is no one like him among all the people." So all the people shouted and said, "[Long] live the king!"H8050H559H5971H7200H3068H977H5971H5971H7321H559H2421H4428
25Then Samuel told the people the ordinances of the kingdom, and wrote [them] in the book and placed [it] before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his house.H8050H1696H5971H4941H4410H3789H5612H3240H6440H3068H8050H7971H5971H7971H376H1004
26And Saul also went to his house at Gibeah; and the valiant [men] whose hearts God had touched went with him.H7586H1980H1004H1390H3212H2428H3820H430H5060
27But certain worthless men said, "How can this one deliver us?" And they despised him and did not bring him any present. But he kept silent.H1121H1100H559H3467H959H935H4503H2790
