Saul Anointed King

10Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, "Has not the LORD anointed you to be prince over his people Israel? And you shall reign over the people of the LORD and you will save them from the hand of their surrounding enemies. And this shall be the sign to you that the LORD has anointed you to be prince over his heritage.H8050H3947H6378H8081H3332H7218H5401H559H3068H4886H5057H5159 2When you depart from me today, you will meet two men by Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah, and they will say to you, 'The donkeys that you went to seek are found, and now your father has ceased to care about the donkeys and is anxious about you, saying, "What shall I do about my son?"'H3212H5978H3117H4672H8147H582H7354H6900H1366H1144H6766H559H860H1980H1245H4672H1H5203H1697H860H1672H559H6213H1121 3Then you shall go on from there farther and come to the oak of Tabor. Three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.H2498H1973H935H436H8396H4672H7969H582H5927H430H1008H259H5375H7969H1423H259H5375H7969H3603H3899H259H5375H5035H3196 4And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from their hand.H7592H7965H5414H8147H3899H3947H3027 5After that you shall come to Gibeath-elohim, where there is a garrison of the Philistines. And there, as soon as you come to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them, prophesying.H310H935H1389H430H5333H6430H935H5892H6293H2256H5030H3381H1116H5035H8596H2485H3658H6440H5012 6Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.H7307H3068H6743H5012H2015H312H376 7Now when these signs meet you, do what your hand finds to do, for God is with you.H226H935H6213H4672H3027H430 8Then go down before me to Gilgal. And behold, I am coming to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, until I come to you and show you what you shall do."H3381H6440H1537H3381H5927H5930H2076H2077H8002H7651H3117H3176H935H3045H6213 9When he turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart. And all these signs came to pass that day.H6437H7926H3212H8050H430H2015H312H3820H226H935H3117 10When they came to Gibeah, behold, a group of prophets met him, and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them.H935H1389H2256H5030H7125H7307H430H6743H5012H8432 11And when all who knew him previously saw how he prophesied with the prophets, the people said to one another, "What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"H3045H865H8032H7200H5012H5030H5971H559H376H7453H1121H7027H7586H5030 12And a man of the place answered, "And who is their father?" Therefore it became a proverb, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"H376H6030H559H1H4912H7586H5030 13When he had finished prophesying, he came to the high place.H3615H5012H935H1116 14Saul's uncle said to him and to his servant, "Where did you go?" And he said, "To seek the donkeys. And when we saw they were not to be found, we went to Samuel."H7586H1730H559H5288H575H1980H559H1245H860H7200H369H935H8050 15And Saul's uncle said, "Please tell me what Samuel said to you."H7586H1730H559H5046H8050H559 16And Saul said to his uncle, "He told us plainly that the donkeys had been found." But about the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel had spoken, he did not tell him anything.H7586H559H1730H5046H5046H860H4672H1697H4410H8050H559H5046

Saul Proclaimed King

17Now Samuel called the people together to the LORD at Mizpah.H8050H6817H5971H3068H4709 18And he said to the people of Israel, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.'H559H1121H3478H559H3068H430H3478H5927H3478H4714H5337H3027H4714H3027H4467H3905 19But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses, and you have said to him, 'Set a king over us.' Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands."H3117H3988H430H3467H7451H6869H559H7760H4428H3320H6440H3068H7626H505 20Then Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot.H8050H7626H3478H7126H7626H1144H3920 21He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by its clans, and the clan of the Matrites was taken by lot; and Saul the son of Kish was taken by lot. But when they sought him, he could not be found.H7626H1144H7126H4940H4940H4309H3920H7586H1121H7027H3920H1245H4672 22So they inquired again of the LORD, "Is there a man still to come?" and the LORD said, "Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage."H7592H3068H376H935H1988H3068H559H2244H3627 23Then they ran and took him from there. And when he stood among the people, he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward.H7323H3947H3320H8432H5971H1361H5971H7926H4605 24And Samuel said to all the people, "Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen? There is none like him among all the people." And all the people shouted, "Long live the king!"H8050H559H5971H7200H3068H977H5971H5971H7321H559H2421H4428 25Then Samuel told the people the rights and duties of the kingship, and he wrote them in a book and laid it up before the LORD. Then Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his home.H8050H1696H5971H4941H4410H3789H5612H3240H6440H3068H8050H7971H5971H7971H376H1004 26Saul also went to his home at Gibeah, and with him went men of valor whose hearts God had touched.H7586H1980H1004H1390H3212H2428H3820H430H5060 27But some worthless fellows said, "How can this man save us?" And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace.H1121H1100H559H3467H959H935H4503H2790
