Samuel’s Final Public Speech

12Then Samuel said to all Israel, "I have carefully listened to everything you said to me and placed a king over you.H8050H559H3478H8085H6963H559H4427H4428 2But now, you can see that the king is leading you. As for me, I'm old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have led you from my youth until today.H4428H1980H6440H2204H7867H1121H1980H6440H5271H3117 3Here I am. Bring charges against me before the LORD and His anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Whom have I wronged or mistreated? From whose hand have I taken a bribe to overlook something?I will return it to you."H6030H3068H4899H7794H3947H2543H3947H6231H7533H3027H3724H5956H5869H7725 4"You haven't wronged us, you haven't mistreated us, and you haven't taken anything from anyone's hand," they responded.H559H6231H7533H3947H3972H376H3027 5He said to them, "The LORD is a witness against you, and His anointed is a witness today that you haven't found anything in my hand." "[He is] a witness," they said.H559H3068H5707H4899H5707H3117H4672H3972H3027H559H5707 6Then Samuel said to the people, "The LORD, who appointed Moses and Aaron and who brought your ancestors up from the land of Egypt, is a witness.H8050H559H5971H3068H6213H4872H175H5927H1H5927H776H4714 7Now present yourselves, so I may judge you before the LORD about all the righteous acts He has done for you and your ancestors.H3320H8199H6440H3068H6666H3068H6213H1 8"When Jacob went to Egypt, your ancestors cried out to the LORD, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who led your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place.H3290H935H4714H1H2199H3068H3068H7971H4872H175H3318H1H4714H3427H4725 9But they forgot the LORD their God, so He handed them over to Sisera commander of the army of Hazor, to the Philistines, and to the king of Moab. [These enemies] fought against them.H7911H3068H430H4376H3027H5516H8269H6635H2674H3027H6430H3027H4428H4124H3898 10Then they cried out to the LORD and said, 'We have sinned, for we abandoned the LORD and worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths. Now deliver us from the power of our enemies, and we will serve You.'H2199H3068H559H2398H5800H3068H5647H1168H6252H5337H3027H341H5647 11So the LORD sent Jerubbaal, Barak, Jephthah, and Samuel. He rescued you from the power of the enemies around you, and you lived securely.H3068H7971H3378H917H3316H8050H5337H3027H341H5439H3427H983 12But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was coming against you, you said to me, 'No, we must have a king rule over us'— even though the LORD your God is your king.H7200H5176H4428H1121H5983H935H559H4428H4427H3068H430H4428 13"Now here is the king you've chosen, the one you requested. Look, this is the king the LORD has placed over you.H4428H977H7592H3068H5414H4428 14If you fear the LORD, worship and obey Him, and if you don't rebel against the LORD's command, then both you and the king who rules over you will follow the LORD your God.H3372H3068H5647H8085H6963H4784H6310H3068H4428H4427H310H3068H430 15However, if you disobey the LORD and rebel against His command, the LORD's hand will be against you and against your ancestors.H8085H6963H3068H4784H6310H3068H3027H3068H1 16"Now, therefore, present yourselves and see this great thing that the LORD will do before your eyes.H1571H3320H7200H1419H1697H3068H6213H5869 17Isn't the wheat harvest today? I will call on the LORD and He will send thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you committed in the LORD's sight by requesting a king for yourselves."H2406H7105H3117H7121H3068H5414H6963H4306H3045H7200H7451H7227H6213H5869H3068H7592H4428 18Samuel called on the LORD, and on that day the LORD sent thunder and rain. As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.H8050H7121H3068H3068H5414H6963H4306H3117H5971H3966H3372H3068H8050 19They pleaded with Samuel, "Pray to the LORD your God for your servants, so we won't die! For we have added to all our sins the evil of requesting a king for ourselves."H5971H559H8050H6419H5650H3068H430H4191H3254H2403H7451H7592H4428 20Samuel replied, "Don't be afraid. Even though you have committed all this evil, don't turn away from following the LORD. Instead, worship the LORD with all your heart.H8050H559H5971H3372H6213H7451H5493H310H3068H5647H3068H3824 21Don't turn away to follow worthless things that can't profit or deliver you; they are worthless.H5493H310H8414H3276H5337H8414 22The LORD will not abandon His people, because of His great name and because He has determined to make you His own people.H3068H5203H5971H1419H8034H2974H3068H6213H5971 23"As for me, I vow that I will not sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. I will teach you the good and right way.H595H2486H2398H3068H2308H6419H3384H2896H3477H1870 24Above all, fear the LORD and worship Him faithfully with all your heart, considering the great things He has done for you.H3372H3068H5647H571H3824H7200H1431 25However, if you continue to do what is evil, both you and your king will be swept away."H7489H7489H5595H4428
