David at Nob

21David went to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech trembled when he met him, and asked, "Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?"H935H1732H5011H288H3548H288H2729H7125H1732H559H376 2David answered Ahimelech the priest, "The king charged me with a certain matter and said to me, 'No one is to know anything about your mission and your instructions.' As for my men, I have told them to meet me at a certain place.H1732H559H288H3548H4428H6680H1697H559H376H3045H3972H1697H7971H6680H3045H5288H6423H492H4725 3Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find."H3426H3027H5414H2568H3899H3027H4672 4But the priest answered David, "I don't have any ordinary bread on hand; however, there is some consecrated bread here—provided the men have kept themselves from women."H3548H6030H1732H559H2455H3899H3027H3426H6944H3899H5288H8104H389H802 5David replied, "Indeed women have been kept from us, as usual whenever I set out. The men's things are holy even on missions that are not holy. How much more so today!"H1732H6030H3548H559H518H802H6113H8032H8543H3318H3627H5288H6944H1870H2455H6942H3117H3627 6So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the LORD and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away.H3548H5414H6944H3899H3899H6440H5493H6440H3068H7760H2527H3899H3117H3947 7Now one of Saul's servants was there that day, detained before the LORD; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul's head shepherd.H376H5650H7586H3117H6113H6440H3068H8034H1673H130H47H7462H7586 8David asked Ahimelech, "Don't you have a spear or a sword here? I haven't brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king's business was urgent."H1732H559H288H3426H371H3027H2595H2719H3947H2719H3627H3027H4428H1697H1961H5169 9The priest replied, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one." David said, "There is none like it; give it to me."H3548H559H2719H1555H6430H5221H6010H425H3874H8071H310H646H3947H3947H312H2108H2088H1732H559H5414

David at Gath

10That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath.H1732H6965H1272H3117H6440H7586H935H397H4428H1661 11But the servants of Achish said to him, "Isn't this David, the king of the land? Isn't he the one they sing about in their dances: "'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'?"H5650H397H559H1732H4428H776H6030H2088H4246H559H7586H5221H505H1732H7233 12David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath.H1732H7760H1697H3824H3966H3372H6440H397H4428H1661 13So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.H8138H2940H5869H1984H3027H8427H1817H8179H7388H3381H2206 14Achish said to his servants, "Look at the man! He is insane! Why bring him to me?H559H397H5650H7200H376H7696H935 15Am I so short of madmen that you have to bring this fellow here to carry on like this in front of me? Must this man come into my house?"H2638H7696H935H7696H935H1004
