Hannah’s Prayer

2And Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.H2584H6419H559H3820H5970H3068H7161H7311H3068H6310H7337H341H8055H3444 2"No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.H6918H3068H1115H6697H430 3"Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the LORD is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed.H1696H7235H1364H1364H6277H3318H6310H3068H410H1844H5949H8505 4"The bows of the mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength.H7198H1368H2844H3782H247H2428 5Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble.H7649H7936H3899H7457H2308H6135H3205H7651H7227H1121H535 6"The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up.H3068H4191H2421H3381H7585H5927 7The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.H3068H3423H6238H8213H637H7311 8He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. "For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, And He has set the world upon them.H6965H1800H6083H7311H34H830H3427H5081H5157H3678H3519H4690H776H3068H7896H8398 9He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. "For by strength no man shall prevail.H8104H7272H2623H7563H1826H2822H3581H376H1396 10The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. "He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed."H7378H3068H2865H8064H7481H3068H1777H657H776H5414H5797H4428H7311H7161H4899 11Then Elkanah went to his house at Ramah. But the child ministered to the LORD before Eli the priest.H511H3212H7414H1004H5288H1961H8334H3068H6440H5941H3548

The Wicked Sons of Eli

12Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the LORD.H1121H5941H1121H1100H3045H3068 13And the priests' custom with the people was that when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come with a three-pronged fleshhook in his hand while the meat was boiling.H3548H4941H5971H376H2076H2077H3548H5288H935H1320H1310H4207H7969H8127H3027 14Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; and the priest would take for himself all that the fleshhook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.H5221H3595H1731H7037H6517H4207H5927H3548H3947H6213H7887H3478H935 15Also, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, "Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw."H6999H2459H3548H5288H935H559H376H2076H5414H1320H6740H3548H3947H1310H1320H2416 16And if the man said to him, "They should really burn the fat first; then you may take as much as your heart desires," he would then answer him, "No, but you must give it now; and if not, I will take it by force."H376H559H6999H6999H2459H3117H3947H5315H183H559H5414H3947H2394 17Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.H2403H5288H3966H1419H6440H3068H582H5006H4503H3068

Samuel’s Childhood Ministry

18But Samuel ministered before the LORD, even as a child, wearing a linen ephod.H8050H8334H6440H3068H5288H2296H906H646 19Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.H517H6213H6996H4598H5927H3117H3117H5927H376H2076H3117H2077 20And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, "The LORD give you descendants from this woman for the loan that was given to the LORD." Then they would go to their own home.H5941H1288H511H802H559H3068H7760H2233H802H7596H7592H3068H1980H4725 21And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the LORD.H3588H3068H6485H2584H2029H3205H7969H1121H8147H1323H5288H8050H1431H5973H3068

Prophecy Against Eli’s Household

22Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.H5941H3966H2204H8085H1121H6213H3478H7901H802H6633H6607H168H4150 23So he said to them, "Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people.H559H6213H1697H8085H7451H1697H5971 24"No, my sons! For it is not a good report that I hear. You make the LORD'S people transgress.H1121H2896H8052H8085H3068H5971H5674 25"If one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?" Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the LORD desired to kill them.H376H2398H376H430H6419H376H2398H3068H6419H8085H6963H1H3068H2654H4191 26And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the LORD and men.H5288H8050H1432H1980H2896H3068H582 27Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: 'Did I not clearly reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?H935H376H430H5941H559H559H3068H1540H1540H1004H1H4714H6547H1004 28'Did I not choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to offer upon My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod before Me? And did I not give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?H977H7626H3478H3548H5927H4196H6999H7004H5375H646H6440H5414H1004H1H801H1121H3478 29'Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling place, and honor your sons more than Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?'H1163H2077H4503H6680H4583H3513H1121H1254H7225H4503H3478H5971 30"Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: 'I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.' But now the LORD says: 'Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.H3068H430H3478H5002H559H559H1004H1004H1H1980H6440H5704H5769H3068H5002H2486H3513H3513H959H7043 31'Behold, the days are coming that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.H3117H935H1438H2220H2220H1H1004H2205H1004 32'And you will see an enemy in My dwelling place, despite all the good which God does for Israel. And there shall not be an old man in your house forever.H5027H6862H4583H3190H3478H2205H1004H3117 33'But any of your men whom I do not cut off from My altar shall consume your eyes and grieve your heart. And all the descendants of your house shall die in the flower of their age.H376H3772H4196H3615H5869H109H5315H4768H1004H4191H582 34'Now this shall be a sign to you that will come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die, both of them.H226H935H8147H1121H2652H6372H259H3117H4191H8147 35'Then I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in My heart and in My mind. I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed forever.H6965H539H3548H6213H3824H5315H1129H539H1004H1980H6440H4899H3117 36'And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and say, "Please, put me in one of the priestly positions, that I may eat a piece of bread."'"H3498H1004H935H7812H95H3701H3603H3899H559H5596H259H3550H398H6595H3899
