Hannah’s Thanksgiving Psalm

2Then Hannah prayed: "My heart exults in the Lord; my strength is increased by the Lord. I will open my mouth to speak against my enemies, because I rejoice in your deliverance.H2584H6419H559H3820H5970H3068H7161H7311H3068H6310H7337H341H8055H3444 2There is no one holy like the Lord, indeed there is no one besides you, there is no rock like our God.H6918H3068H1115H6697H430 3Don't continue to talk proudly, and don't speak arrogantly, for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.H1696H7235H1364H1364H6277H3318H6310H3068H410H1844H5949H8505 4The bows of warriors are shattered, but those who stumble are equipped with strength.H7198H1368H2844H3782H247H2428 5Those who had an abundance of bread now hire themselves out, and those who were hungry hunger no more. While the barren woman gives birth to seven children, she who had many children languishes.H7649H7936H3899H7457H2308H6135H3205H7651H7227H1121H535 6The Lord kills and gives life, he brings people down to where the dead are and he raises them up.H3068H4191H2421H3381H7585H5927 7The Lord makes people poor and he makes people rich, he brings them low, and he also exalts them.H3068H3423H6238H8213H637H7311 8He raises the poor up from the dust, he lifts up the needy from the trash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. Indeed the pillars of the earth belong to the Lord, and he has set the world on them.H6965H1800H6083H7311H34H830H3427H5081H5157H3678H3519H4690H776H3068H7896H8398 9He guards the steps of his faithful ones, while the wicked are made silent in darkness. Indeed it's not by strength that a person prevails.H8104H7272H2623H7563H1826H2822H3581H376H1396 10The Lord will shatter those who contend against him, he will thunder against them in the heavens. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth, he will give strength to his king, and he will increase the strength of His anointed one."H7378H3068H2865H8064H7481H3068H1777H657H776H5414H5797H4428H7311H7161H4899 11Then Elkanah went to his house at Ramah, while the boy was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli the priest.H511H3212H7414H1004H5288H1961H8334H3068H6440H5941H3548

Eli’s Wicked Sons

12Now the sons of Eli were worthless men who did not know the Lord.H1121H5941H1121H1100H3045H3068 13The custom of the priests with the people was that whenever a person offered a sacrifice, a servant of the priest would come with a three pronged fork in his hand while the meat was boiling.H3548H4941H5971H376H2076H2077H3548H5288H935H1320H1310H4207H7969H8127H3027 14He would stick it into the basin or pot or kettle or pan, and whatever the fork brought up, the priest would take for himself. This is what they were supposed to do with all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.H5221H3595H1731H7037H6517H4207H5927H3548H3947H6213H7887H3478H935 15But even before they burned the fat, the servant of the priest would come and say to the person offering the sacrifice, "Give me meat to roast for the priest. He won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw."H6999H2459H3548H5288H935H559H376H2076H5414H1320H6740H3548H3947H1310H1320H2416 16If the man said to him, "They must surely burn up the fat first, and then take for yourself whatever you desire," the servant would say, "No, give it now, and if you don't, I'll take it by force!"H376H559H6999H6999H2459H3117H3947H5315H183H559H5414H3947H2394 17By doing this, the sin of the young men was very serious in the Lord's sight because the men despised the Lord's offering.H2403H5288H3966H1419H6440H3068H582H5006H4503H3068

Samuel at Shiloh

18Now Samuel was ministering in the Lord's presence, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.H8050H8334H6440H3068H5288H2296H906H646 19His mother would make a small robe for him, and she would bring it each year when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.H517H6213H6996H4598H5927H3117H3117H5927H376H2076H3117H2077 20Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, "May the Lord give you descendants from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the Lord." Then they would return to their home.H5941H1288H511H802H559H3068H7760H2233H802H7596H7592H3068H1980H4725 21The Lord took note of Hannah, and she became pregnant and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel continued to grow, and the Lord was constantly with him.H3588H3068H6485H2584H2029H3205H7969H1121H8147H1323H5288H8050H1431H5973H3068

Judgment against Eli’s Sons

22Now Eli was very old, and he had heard everything that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who were serving regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.H5941H3966H2204H8085H1121H6213H3478H7901H802H6633H6607H168H4150 23"Why are you doing these things that I'm hearing about?" he asked his sons, "These reports about your evil deeds are coming from all these people!H559H6213H1697H8085H7451H1697H5971 24No, my sons, I'm not hearing good news being circulated by the Lord's people.H1121H2896H8052H8085H3068H5971H5674 25If a person sins against another, God will mediate for him, but if a person sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?" But they would not listen to their father; for the Lord wanted to put them to death.H376H2398H376H430H6419H376H2398H3068H6419H8085H6963H1H3068H2654H4191 26But the boy Samuel continued to grow both physically and in favor with the Lord and the people.H5288H8050H1432H1980H2896H3068H582 27A man of God came to Eli, saying to him, "This is what the Lord says: 'When they were in Egypt and slaves to the house of Pharaoh, did I not reveal to the family of your ancestor AaronH935H376H430H5941H559H559H3068H1540H1540H1004H1H4714H6547H1004 28that I had chosen him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer up burnt offerings on my altar, burn incense, and carry the ephod in my presence? And did I not give to your ancestors' family all the Israelite fire-offerings?H977H7626H3478H3548H5927H4196H6999H7004H5375H646H6440H5414H1004H1H801H1121H3478 29Why then do all of you show contempt for my sacrifice and offering that I've commanded for my dwelling? And you honor your sons more than me in order to fatten yourselves from the best of all the offerings of my people Israel.'H1163H2077H4503H6680H4583H3513H1121H1254H7225H4503H3478H5971 30"Therefore, the Lord God of Israel has declared, 'I did, in fact, say that your family and your ancestor's family would walk before me forever,' but now the Lord declares, 'Far be it from me! The one who honors me I'll honor, and the one who despises me shall be treated with contempt.H3068H430H3478H5002H559H559H1004H1004H1H1980H6440H5704H5769H3068H5002H2486H3513H3513H959H7043 31The time is coming when I'll cut away at your family and your ancestor's family until there are no old men left in your family.H3117H935H1438H2220H2220H1H1004H2205H1004 32Distress will settle down to live in your household, and despite all the good that I do for Israel, there will never be an old man in your family forever.H5027H6862H4583H3190H3478H2205H1004H3117 33Any of you whom I don't eliminate from serving at my altar will grow tired from weeping, and their souls will grieve. All the increase of your family will die by violence.H376H3772H4196H3615H5869H109H5315H4768H1004H4191H582 34Here's a sign for you - your two sons Hophni and Phineas will both die on the same day!H226H935H8147H1121H2652H6372H259H3117H4191H8147 35And I'll raise up for myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in my heart and according to my desire. I'll build for him an enduring house and he will walk before my anointed one forever.H6965H539H3548H6213H3824H5315H1129H539H1004H1980H6440H4899H3117 36Anyone who remains in your family will come and prostrate themselves before him for a small wage or a loaf of bread and will say, 'Please put me in one of the priest's offices so I can eat a piece of bread.'"'"235H3498H1004H935H7812H95H3701H3603H3899H559H5596H259H3550H398H6595H3899
