David’s Conflict with the Amalekites

30And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;H1732H582H935H6860H7992H3117H6003H6584H5045H6860H5221H6860H8313H784 2And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.H802H7617H4191H376H1419H6996H5090H3212H1870 3So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.H1732H582H935H5892H8313H784H802H1121H1323H7617 4Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.H1732H5971H5375H6963H1058H3581H1058 5And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.H1732H8147H802H7617H293H3159H26H802H5037H3761 6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.H1732H3966H3334H5971H559H5619H5315H5971H4843H376H1121H1323H1732H2388H3068H430 7And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee, bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.H1732H559H54H3548H288H1121H5066H646H54H5066H646H1732 8And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.H1732H7592H3068H559H7291H310H1416H5381H559H7291H5381H5381H5337H5337 9So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.H1732H3212H8337H3967H376H935H5158H1308H3498H5975 10But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.H1732H7291H702H3967H376H3967H5975H6296H5674H5158H1308 11And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;H4672H376H4713H7704H3947H1732H5414H3899H398H8248H4325 12And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.H5414H6400H1690H8147H6778H398H7307H7725H398H3899H8354H4325H7969H3117H7969H3915 13And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days agone I fell sick.H1732H559H559H5288H4713H5650H376H6003H113H5800H7969H3117H2470 14We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.H6584H5045H3774H3063H5045H3612H8313H6860H784 15And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.H1732H559H3381H1416H559H7650H430H4191H518H5462H3027H113H3381H1416 16And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.H3381H5203H6440H776H398H8354H2287H1419H7998H3947H776H6430H776H3063 17And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.H1732H5221H5399H6153H4283H4422H376H702H3967H5288H376H7392H1581H5127 18And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.H1732H5337H6002H3947H1732H5337H8147H802 19And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.H5737H4480H6996H1419H1121H1323H7998H3947H1732H7725 20And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David's spoil.H1732H3947H6629H1241H5090H6440H1931H4735H559H1732H7998 21And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.H1732H935H3967H582H6296H3212H310H1732H3427H5158H1308H3318H7125H1732H7125H5971H1732H5066H5971H7592H7965 22Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.H6030H7451H376H1100H582H1980H1732H559H1980H5414H7998H5337H376H802H1121H5090H3212 23Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.H559H1732H6213H251H3068H5414H8104H5414H1416H935H3027 24For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.H8085H1697H2506H3381H3381H4421H2506H3427H3627H2505H3162 25And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day.H3117H4605H7760H2706H4941H3478H3117 26And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;H1732H935H6860H7971H7998H2205H3063H7453H559H1293H7998H341H3068 27To them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir,H834H1008H5045H7418H3492 28And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa,H6177H8224H851 29And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,H7403H5892H3397H5892H7017 30And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chorashan, and to them which were in Athach,H2767H3565H6269 31And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.H2275H4725H1732H582H1980
