Samuel’s First Prophecy

3Then the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.H5288H8050H8334H3068H6440H5941H1697H3068H3368H3117H6555H2377 2And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see,H3117H5941H7901H4725H5869H2490H3544H3201H7200 3and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the LORD where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down,H5216H430H3518H1964H3068H727H430H8050H7901 4that the LORD called Samuel. And he answered, "Here I am!"H3068H7121H8050H559 5So he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." And he said, "I did not call; lie down again." And he went and lay down.H7323H5941H559H2009H7121H559H7121H7901H7725H3212H7901 6Then the LORD called yet again, "Samuel!" So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."H3068H7121H3254H8050H8050H6965H3212H5941H559H7121H559H7121H1121H7901H7725 7(Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him.)H8050H2962H3045H3068H1697H3068H1540 8And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. Then he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you did call me." Then Eli perceived that the LORD had called the boy.H3068H7121H8050H3254H7992H6965H3212H5941H559H7121H5941H995H3068H7121H5288 9Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.H5941H559H8050H3212H7901H7121H559H1696H3068H5650H8085H8050H3212H7901H4725 10Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel answered, "Speak, for Your servant hears."H3068H935H3320H7121H6471H8050H8050H8050H559H1696H5650H8085 11Then the LORD said to Samuel: "Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.H3068H559H8050H6213H1697H3478H8147H241H8085H6750 12"In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.H3117H6965H5941H1696H413H1004H2490H3615 13"For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.H5046H8199H1004H5704H5769H5771H3045H1121H7043H3543 14"And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever."H7650H1004H5941H5771H5941H1004H3722H2077H4503H5704H5769 15So Samuel lay down until morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.H8050H7901H1242H6605H1817H1004H3068H8050H3372H5046H5941H4759 16Then Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son!" And he answered, "Here I am."H5941H7121H8050H559H8050H1121H559 17And he said, "What is the word that the Lord spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you."H559H1697H1696H3582H430H6213H3254H3582H1697H1697H1696 18Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD. Let Him do what seems good to Him."H8050H5046H1697H3582H559H3068H6213H5869H2896 19So Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.H8050H1431H3068H1697H5307H776 20And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel had been established as a prophet of the LORD.H3478H1835H884H3045H8050H539H5030H3068 21Then the LORD appeared again in Shiloh. For the LORD revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.H3068H7200H3254H7887H3068H1540H8050H7887H1697H3068
