1Samuel 9
Amplified Bible Help
9THERE WAS a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of wealth {and} valor.H376H1144H8034H7027H1121H22H1121H6872H1121H1064H1121H647H1145H1368H376H2428 2Kish had a son named Saul, a choice young man and handsome; among all the Israelites there was not a man more handsome than he. He was a head taller than any of the people.H1121H8034H7586H970H2896H1121H3478H2896H376H7926H4605H1364H5971 3The donkeys of Kish, Saul's father, were lost. Kish said to Saul, Take a servant with you and go, look for the donkeys.H860H7027H7586H1H6H7027H559H7586H1121H3947H259H5288H6965H3212H1245H860 4And they passed through the hill country of Ephraim and the land of Shalishah, but did not find them. Then they went through the land of Shaalim and the land of Benjamin, but did not find them.H5674H2022H669H5674H776H8031H4672H5674H776H8171H5674H776H1145H4672 5And when they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant, Come, let us return, lest my father stop worrying about the donkeys and become concerned about us.H935H776H6689H7586H559H5288H3212H7725H1H2308H860H1672 6The servant said to him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, a man held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there. Perhaps he can show us where we should go.H559H5892H376H430H3513H376H1696H935H935H3212H5046H1870H1980 7Then Saul said to his servant, But if we go, what shall we bring the man? The bread in our sacks is gone, and there is no gift for the man of God. What have we?H559H7586H5288H3212H935H376H3899H235H3627H8670H935H376H430 8The servant replied, I have here a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God to tell us our way--H5288H6030H7586H3254H559H4672H3027H7253H8255H3701H5414H376H430H5046H1870 9(Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, Come, let us go to the seer, for he that is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.)H6440H3478H376H3212H1875H430H559H3212H3212H7200H3117H5030H6440H7121H7200 10Saul said to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went to the city where the man of God was.H1697H7586H5288H2896H559H3212H3212H3212H5892H376H430 11As they went up the hill to the city, they met young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, Is the seer here?H5927H4608H5892H4672H5291H3318H7579H4325H559H3426H7200 12They answered, He is; behold, he is just beyond you. Hurry, for he came today to the city because the people have a sacrifice today on the high place.H6030H559H3426H6440H4116H935H3117H5892H2077H5971H3117H1116 13As you enter the city, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people will not eat until he comes to ask the blessing on the sacrifice. Afterward, those who are invited eat. So go on up, for about now you will find him.H935H5892H3651H4672H5927H1116H398H5971H398H935H1288H2077H310H3651H398H7121H5927H3117H4672 14So they went up to the city, and as they were entering, behold, Samuel came toward them, going up to the high place.H5927H8432H5892H935H5892H8050H3318H7125H5927H1116 15Now a day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed to Samuel in his ear,H3068H1540H8050H241H259H3117H6440H7586H935H559 16Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be leader over My people Israel; and he shall save them out of the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon the distress of My people, because their cry has come to Me.H4279H6256H7971H376H776H1144H4886H5057H5971H3478H3467H5971H3027H6430H7200H5971H6818H935 17When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, There is the man of whom I told you. He shall have authority over My people.H8050H7200H7586H3068H6030H376H559H6113H5971 18Then Saul came near to Samuel in the gate and said, Tell me where is the seer's house?H7586H5066H8050H8432H8179H559H5046H335H7200H1004 19Samuel answered Saul, I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today, and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is on your mind.H8050H6030H7586H559H7200H5927H6440H1116H398H3117H1242H7971H5046H3824 20As for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be thinking about them, for they are found. And for whom are all the desirable things of Israel? Are they not for you and for all your father's house?H860H6H7969H3117H3117H7760H3820H4672H2532H3478H1H1004 21And Saul said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is not my family the least of all the families of the clans of Benjamin? Why then do you speak this way to me?H7586H6030H559H1145H6996H7626H3478H4940H6810H4940H7626H1144H1696H1697 22Then Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the guest room [at the high place] and had them sit in the chief place among the persons--about thirty of them--who were invited. [The other people feasted outside.]H8050H3947H7586H5288H935H3957H5414H7218H4725H7121H7970H376 23And Samuel said to the cook, Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, Set it aside.H8050H559H2876H5414H4490H5414H559H7760 24And the cook lifted high the shoulder and what was on it [indicating that it was the priest's honored portion] and set it before Saul. [Samuel] said, See what was reserved for you. Eat, for until the hour appointed it was kept for you, ever since I invited the people. So Saul ate that day with Samuel.H2876H7311H7785H7760H6440H7586H559H7604H7760H6440H398H4150H8104H559H7121H5971H7586H398H8050H3117 25When they had come down from the high place into the city, Samuel conversed with Saul on the top of the house.H3381H1116H5892H1696H7586H1406 26They arose early and about dawn Samuel called Saul [who was sleeping] on the top of the house, saying, Get up, that I may send you on your way. Saul arose, and both he and Samuel went out on the street.H7925H5927H7837H8050H7121H7586H1406H559H6965H7971H7586H6965H3318H8147H8050H2351 27And as they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us--and he passed on--but you stand still, first, that I may cause you to hear the word of God.H3381H7097H5892H8050H559H7586H559H5288H5674H6440H5674H5975H3117H8085H1697H430
