New International Version (1984) Help
4The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves."H6817H259H802H802H1121H5030H477H559H5650H376H4191H3045H5650H3373H3068H5383H935H3947H8147H3206H5650
2Elisha replied to her, "How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?" "Your servant has nothing there at all," she said, "except a little oil."H477H559H6213H5046H3426H1004H559H8198H1004H610H8081
3Elisha said, "Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few.H559H3212H7592H3627H2351H7934H7386H3627H4591
4Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side."H935H5462H1817H1121H3332H3627H5265H4392
5She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.H3212H5462H1817H1157H1121H1992H5066H3332
6When all the jars were full, she said to her son, "Bring me another one." But he replied, "There is not a jar left." Then the oil stopped flowing.H3627H4390H559H1121H5066H3627H559H3627H8081H5975
7She went and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."H935H5046H376H430H559H3212H4376H8081H7999H5386H2421H1121H3498
8One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat.H3117H477H5674H7766H1419H802H2388H398H3899H1767H5674H5493H398H3899
9She said to her husband, "I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God.H559H376H3045H6918H376H430H5674H8548
10Let's make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us."H6213H6996H5944H7023H7760H4296H7979H3678H4501H935H5493
11One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there.H3117H935H5493H5944H7901
12He said to his servant Gehazi, "Call the Shunammite." So he called her, and she stood before him.H559H1522H5288H7121H7767H7121H5975H6440
13Elisha said to him, "Tell her, 'You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?'" She replied, "I have a home among my own people."H559H559H2729H2731H6213H3426H1696H4428H8269H6635H559H3427H8432H5971
14"What can be done for her?" Elisha asked. Gehazi said, "Well, she has no son and her husband is old."H559H6213H1522H559H61H1121H376H2204
15Then Elisha said, "Call her." So he called her, and she stood in the doorway.H559H7121H7121H5975H6607
16"About this time next year," Elisha said, "you will hold a son in your arms." "No, my lord," she objected. "Don't mislead your servant, O man of God!"H559H4150H6256H2416H2263H1121H559H113H376H430H3576H8198
17But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.H802H2029H3205H1121H4150H477H1696H6256H2416
18The child grew, and one day he went out to his father, who was with the reapers.H3206H1431H3117H3318H1H7114
19"My head! My head!" he said to his father. His father told a servant, "Carry him to his mother."H559H1H7218H7218H559H5288H5375H517
20After the servant had lifted him up and carried him to his mother, the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died.H5375H935H517H3427H1290H6672H4191
21She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, then shut the door and went out.H5927H7901H4296H376H430H5462H3318
22She called her husband and said, "Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return."H7121H376H559H7971H259H5288H259H860H7323H376H430H7725
23"Why go to him today?" he asked. "It's not the New Moon or the Sabbath." "It's all right," she said.H559H1980H3117H2320H7676H559H7965
24She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, "Lead on; don't slow down for me unless I tell you."H2280H860H559H5288H5090H3212H6113H7392H559
25So she set out and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When he saw her in the distance, the man of God said to his servant Gehazi, "Look! There's the Shunammite!H3212H935H376H430H2022H3760H376H430H7200H559H1522H5288H1975H7767
26Run to meet her and ask her, 'Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your child all right?'" "Everything is all right," she said.H7323H7125H559H7965H7965H376H7965H3206H559H7965
27When she reached the man of God at the mountain, she took hold of his feet. Gehazi came over to push her away, but the man of God said, "Leave her alone! She is in bitter distress, but the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me why."H935H376H430H2022H2388H7272H1522H5066H1920H376H430H559H7503H5315H4843H3068H5956H5046
28"Did I ask you for a son, my lord?" she said. "Didn't I tell you, 'Don't raise my hopes'?"H559H7592H1121H113H559H7952
29Elisha said to Gehazi, "Tuck your cloak into your belt, take my staff in your hand and run. If you meet anyone, do not greet him, and if anyone greets you, do not answer. Lay my staff on the boy's face."H559H1522H2296H4975H3947H4938H3027H3212H4672H376H1288H376H1288H6030H7760H4938H6440H5288
30But the child's mother said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So he got up and followed her.H517H5288H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H6965H3212H310
31Gehazi went on ahead and laid the staff on the boy's face, but there was no sound or response. So Gehazi went back to meet Elisha and told him, "The boy has not awakened."H1522H5674H6440H7760H4938H6440H5288H6963H7182H7725H7125H5046H559H5288H6974
32When Elisha reached the house, there was the boy lying dead on his couch.H477H935H1004H5288H4191H7901H4296
33He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the LORD.H935H5462H1817H8147H6419H3068
34Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy's body grew warm.H5927H7901H3206H7760H6310H6310H5869H5869H3709H3709H1457H1320H3206H2552
35Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out upon him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.H7725H3212H1004H259H2008H259H2008H5927H1457H5288H2237H7651H6471H5288H6491H5869
36Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, "Call the Shunammite." And he did. When she came, he said, "Take your son."H7121H1522H559H7121H7767H7121H935H559H5375H1121
37She came in, fell at his feet and bowed to the ground. Then she took her son and went out.H935H5307H7272H7812H776H5375H1121H3318
38Elisha returned to Gilgal and there was a famine in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant, "Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these men."H477H7725H1537H7458H776H1121H5030H3427H6440H559H5288H8239H1419H5518H1310H5138H1121H5030
39One of them went out into the fields to gather herbs and found a wild vine. He gathered some of its gourds and filled the fold of his cloak. When he returned, he cut them up into the pot of stew, though no one knew what they were.H259H3318H7704H3950H219H4672H7704H1612H3950H7704H6498H899H4393H935H6398H5518H5138H3045
40The stew was poured out for the men, but as they began to eat it, they cried out, "O man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.H3332H582H398H398H5138H6817H559H376H430H4194H5518H3201H398
41Elisha said, "Get some flour." He put it into the pot and said, "Serve it to the people to eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.H559H3947H7058H7993H5518H559H3332H5971H398H1697H7451H5518
42A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. "Give it to the people to eat," Elisha said.H935H376H1190H935H376H430H3899H1061H6242H3899H8184H3759H6861H559H5414H5971H398
43"How can I set this before a hundred men?" his servant asked. But Elisha answered, "Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over.'"H8334H559H5414H6440H3967H376H559H5414H5971H398H559H3068H398H3498
44Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.H5414H6440H398H3498H1697H3068
