Elisha and the Widow’s Oil

4A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves."H6817H259H802H802H1121H5030H477H559H5650H376H4191H3045H5650H3373H3068H5383H935H3947H8147H3206H5650
2So Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil."H477H559H6213H5046H3426H1004H559H8198H1004H610H8081
3Then he said, "Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.H559H3212H7592H3627H2351H7934H7386H3627H4591
4"And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones."H935H5462H1817H1121H3332H3627H5265H4392
5So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.H3212H5462H1817H1157H1121H1992H5066H3332
6Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another vessel." So the oil ceased.H3627H4390H559H1121H5066H3627H559H3627H8081H5975
7Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest."H935H5046H376H430H559H3212H4376H8081H7999H5386H2421H1121H3498

Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son

8Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman, and she persuaded him to eat some food. So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food.H3117H477H5674H7766H1419H802H2388H398H3899H1767H5674H5493H398H3899
9And she said to her husband, "Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly.H559H376H3045H6918H376H430H5674H8548
10"Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there."H6213H6996H5944H7023H7760H4296H7979H3678H4501H935H5493
11And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there.H3117H935H5493H5944H7901
12Then he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite woman." When he had called her, she stood before him.H559H1522H5288H7121H7767H7121H5975H6440
13And he said to him, "Say now to her, 'Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?'" She answered, "I dwell among my own people."H559H559H2729H2731H6213H3426H1696H4428H8269H6635H559H3427H8432H5971
14So he said, "What then is to be done for her?" And Gehazi answered, "Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old."H559H6213H1522H559H61H1121H376H2204
15So he said, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.H559H7121H7121H5975H6607
16Then he said, "About this time next year you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!"H559H4150H6256H2416H2263H1121H559H113H376H430H3576H8198
17But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.H802H2029H3205H1121H4150H477H1696H6256H2416
18And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers.H3206H1431H3117H3318H1H7114
19And he said to his father, "My head, my head!" So he said to a servant, "Carry him to his mother."H559H1H7218H7218H559H5288H5375H517
20When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.H5375H935H517H3427H1290H6672H4191
21And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out.H5927H7901H4296H376H430H5462H3318
22Then she called to her husband, and said, "Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back."H7121H376H559H7971H259H5288H259H860H7323H376H430H7725
23So he said, "Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath." And she said, "It is well."H559H1980H3117H2320H7676H559H7965
24Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, "Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you."H2280H860H559H5288H5090H3212H6113H7392H559
25And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, "Look, the Shunammite woman!.H3212H935H376H430H2022H3760H376H430H7200H559H1522H5288H1975H7767
26"Please run now to meet her, and say to her, 'Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?'" And she answered, "It is well."H7323H7125H559H7965H7965H376H7965H3206H559H7965
27Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, "Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me."H935H376H430H2022H2388H7272H1522H5066H1920H376H430H559H7503H5315H4843H3068H5956H5046
28So she said, "Did I ask a son of my lord? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me'?"H559H7592H1121H113H559H7952
29Then he said to Gehazi, "Get yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but lay my staff on the face of the child."H559H1522H2296H4975H3947H4938H3027H3212H4672H376H1288H376H1288H6030H7760H4938H6440H5288
30And the mother of the child said, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her.H517H5288H559H3068H2416H5315H2416H5800H6965H3212H310
31Now Gehazi went on ahead of them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice nor hearing. Therefore he went back to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child has not awakened."H1522H5674H6440H7760H4938H6440H5288H6963H7182H7725H7125H5046H559H5288H6974
32When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed.H477H935H1004H5288H4191H7901H4296
33He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.H935H5462H1817H8147H6419H3068
34And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm.H5927H7901H3206H7760H6310H6310H5869H5869H3709H3709H1457H1320H3206H2552
35He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.H7725H3212H1004H259H2008H259H2008H5927H1457H5288H2237H7651H6471H5288H6491H5869
36And he called Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite woman." So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, "Pick up your son."H7121H1522H559H7121H7767H7121H935H559H5375H1121
37So she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she picked up her son and went out.H935H5307H7272H7812H776H5375H1121H3318

Elisha Purifies the Pot of Stew

38And Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."H477H7725H1537H7458H776H1121H5030H3427H6440H559H5288H8239H1419H5518H1310H5138H1121H5030
39So one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were.H259H3318H7704H3950H219H4672H7704H1612H3950H7704H6498H899H4393H935H6398H5518H5138H3045
40Then they served it to the men to eat. Now it happened, as they were eating the stew, that they cried out and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.H3332H582H398H398H5138H6817H559H376H430H4194H5518H3201H398
41So he said, "Then bring some flour." And he put it into the pot, and said, "Serve it to the people, that they may eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.H559H3947H7058H7993H5518H559H3332H5971H398H1697H7451H5518

Elisha Feeds One Hundred Men

42Then a man came from Baal Shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley bread, and newly ripened grain in his knapsack. And he said, "Give it to the people, that they may eat."H935H376H1190H935H376H430H3899H1061H6242H3899H8184H3759H6861H559H5414H5971H398
43But his servant said, "What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?" He said again, "Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the LORD: 'They shall eat and have some left over.'"H8334H559H5414H6440H3967H376H559H5414H5971H398H559H3068H398H3498
44So he set it before them; and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.H5414H6440H398H3498H1697H3068
