The Axe Head Recovered

6Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us.H1121H5030H559H6440H477H4725H3427H6862 2Let us go to the Jordan and each of us get there a log, and let us make a place for us to dwell there." And he answered, "Go."H3212H3383H3947H376H259H6982H6213H4725H3427H559H3212 3Then one of them said, "Be pleased to go with your servants." And he answered, "I will go."H259H559H2974H3212H5650H559H3212 4So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.H3212H935H3383H1504H6086 5But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water, and he cried out, "Alas, my master! It was borrowed."H259H5307H6982H1270H5307H4325H6817H559H162H113H7592 6Then the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float.H376H430H559H575H5307H7200H4725H7094H6086H7993H1270H6687 7And he said, "Take it up." So he reached out his hand and took it.H559H7311H7971H3027H3947

Horses and Chariots of Fire

8Once when the king of Syria was warring against Israel, he took counsel with his servants, saying, "At such and such a place shall be my camp."H4428H758H3898H3478H3289H5650H559H6423H492H4725H8466 9But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, "Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are going down there."H376H430H7971H4428H3478H559H8104H5674H2088H4725H758H5185 10And the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God told him. Thus he used to warn him, so that he saved himself there more than once or twice.H4428H3478H7971H4725H376H430H559H2094H8104H259H8147 11And the mind of the king of Syria was greatly troubled because of this thing, and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?"H3820H4428H758H5590H1697H7121H5650H559H5046H4428H3478 12And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom."H259H5650H559H113H4428H477H5030H3478H5046H4428H3478H1697H1696H2315H4904 13And he said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him." It was told him, "Behold, he is in Dothan."H559H3212H7200H351H7971H3947H5046H559H1886 14So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.H7971H5483H7393H3515H2428H935H3915H5362H5892H5362 15When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"H8334H376H430H6965H7925H3318H2428H5437H5892H5483H7393H5288H559H162H113H6213 16He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."H559H3372H7227 17Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see." So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.H477H6419H559H3068H6491H5869H7200H3068H6491H5869H5288H7200H2022H4390H5483H7393H784H5439H477 18And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness." So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.H3381H477H6419H3068H559H5221H1471H5575H5221H5575H1697H477 19And Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." And he led them to Samaria.H477H559H1870H2090H5892H3212H310H3212H376H1245H3212H8111 20As soon as they entered Samaria, Elisha said, "O LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see." So the LORD opened their eyes and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.H935H8111H477H559H3068H6491H5869H7200H3068H6491H5869H7200H8432H8111 21As soon as the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, "My father, shall I strike them down? Shall I strike them down?"H4428H3478H559H477H7200H1H5221H5221 22He answered, "You shall not strike them down. Would you strike down those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master."H559H5221H5221H7617H2719H7198H7760H3899H4325H6440H398H8354H3212H113 23So he prepared for them a great feast, and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the Syrians did not come again on raids into the land of Israel.H3739H1419H3740H398H8354H7971H3212H113H1416H758H935H3254H776H3478

Ben-hadad’s Siege of Samaria

24Afterward Ben-hadad king of Syria mustered his entire army and went up and besieged Samaria.H310H1130H4428H758H6908H4264H5927H6696H8111 25And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until a donkey's head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove's dung for five shekels of silver.H1419H7458H8111H6696H2543H7218H8084H3701H7255H6894H1686H3123H2755H2568H3701 26Now as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king!"H4428H3478H5674H2346H6817H802H559H3467H113H4428 27And he said, "If the LORD will not help you, how shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the winepress?"H559H3068H3467H370H3467H1637H3342 28And the king asked her, "What is your trouble?" She answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.'H4428H559H559H802H559H5414H1121H398H3117H398H1121H4279 29So we boiled my son and ate him. And on the next day I said to her, 'Give your son, that we may eat him.' But she has hidden her son."H1310H1121H398H559H312H3117H5414H1121H398H2244H1121 30When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes—now he was passing by on the wall—and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth beneath on his body—H4428H8085H1697H802H7167H899H5674H2346H5971H7200H8242H1004H1320 31and he said, "May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today."H559H430H6213H3254H7218H477H1121H8202H5975H3117 32Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Now the king had dispatched a man from his presence, but before the messenger arrived Elisha said to the elders, "Do you see how this murderer has sent to take off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold the door fast against him. Is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?"H477H3427H1004H2205H3427H7971H376H6440H4397H935H559H2205H7200H1121H7523H7971H5493H7218H7200H4397H935H5462H1817H3905H1817H6963H113H7272H310 33And while he was still speaking with them, the messenger came down to him and said, "This trouble is from the LORD! Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?"H1696H4397H3381H559H7451H3068H3176H3068
