New International Version (1984) Help
8Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, "Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the LORD has decreed a famine in the land that will last seven years."H1696H477H802H1121H2421H559H6965H3212H1004H1481H834H1481H3068H7121H7458H935H776H7651H8141
2The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.H802H6965H6213H1697H376H430H3212H1004H1481H776H6430H7651H8141
3At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to the king to beg for her house and land.H7651H8141H7097H802H7725H776H6430H3318H6817H4428H1004H7704
4The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, "Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done."H4428H1696H1522H5288H376H430H559H5608H1419H477H6213
5Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to beg the king for her house and land. Gehazi said, "This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life."H5608H4428H2421H4191H2421H802H1121H2421H6817H4428H1004H7704H1522H559H113H4428H802H1121H477H2421
6The king asked the woman about it, and she told him. Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, "Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now."H4428H7592H802H5608H4428H5414H259H5631H559H7725H8393H7704H3117H5800H776
7Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, "The man of God has come all the way up here,"H477H935H1834H1130H4428H758H2470H5046H559H376H430H935H2008
8he said to Hazael, "Take a gift with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult the LORD through him; ask him, 'Will I recover from this illness?'"H4428H559H2371H3947H4503H3027H3212H7125H376H430H1875H3068H559H2421H2483
9Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, "Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, 'Will I recover from this illness?'"H2371H3212H7125H3947H4503H3027H2898H1834H705H1581H4853H935H5975H6440H559H1121H1130H4428H758H7971H559H2421H2483
10Elisha answered, "Go and say to him, 'You will certainly recover'; but the LORD has revealed to me that he will in fact die."H477H559H3212H559H2421H2421H3068H7200H4191H4191
11He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael felt ashamed. Then the man of God began to weep.H5975H6440H7760H954H376H430H1058
12"Why is my lord weeping?" asked Hazael. "Because I know the harm you will do to the Israelites," he answered. "You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women."H2371H559H1058H113H559H3045H7451H6213H1121H3478H4013H7971H784H970H2026H2719H7376H5768H1234H2030
13Hazael said, "How could your servant, a mere dog, accomplish such a feat?" "The LORD has shown me that you will become king of Aram," answered Elisha.H2371H559H5650H3611H6213H1419H1697H477H559H3068H7200H4428H758
14Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, "What did Elisha say to you?" Hazael replied, "He told me that you would certainly recover."H3212H477H935H113H559H559H477H559H559H2421H2421
15But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king's face, so that he died. Then Hazael succeeded him as king.H4283H3947H4346H2881H4325H6566H6440H4191H2371H4427
16In the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah.H2568H8141H3141H1121H256H4428H3478H3092H4428H3063H3088H1121H3092H4428H3063H4427
17He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years.H7970H8147H8141H1121H4427H4427H8083H8141H3389
18He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD.H3212H1870H4428H3478H6213H1004H256H1323H256H802H6213H7451H5869H3068
19Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the LORD was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.H3068H14H7843H3063H1732H5650H559H5414H3117H5216H1121
20In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.H3117H123H6586H3027H3063H4427H4428
21So Jehoram went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home.H3141H5674H6811H7393H6965H3915H5221H123H5437H8269H7393H5971H5127H168
22To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah. Libnah revolted at the same time.H123H6586H3027H3063H3117H3841H6586H1931H6256
23As for the other events of Jehoram's reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?H3499H1697H3141H6213H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H3063
24Jehoram rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.H3141H7901H1H6912H1H5892H1732H274H1121H4427
25In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.H8147H6240H8141H8141H3141H1121H256H4428H3478H274H1121H3088H4428H3063H4427
26Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother's name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri king of Israel.H8147H6242H8141H1121H274H4427H4427H259H8141H3389H517H8034H6271H1323H6018H4428H3478
27He walked in the ways of the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab's family.H3212H1870H1004H256H6213H7451H5869H3068H1004H256H2860H1004H256
28Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead. The Arameans wounded Joram;H3212H3141H1121H256H4421H2371H4428H758H7433H1568H761H5221H3141
29so King Joram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth in his battle with Hazael king of Aram. Then Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.H4428H3141H7725H7495H3157H4347H761H5221H7414H3898H2371H4428H758H274H1121H3088H4428H3063H3381H7200H3141H1121H256H3157H2470
