Jehu Anointed King of Israel

9And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, "Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead.H477H5030H7121H259H1121H5030H559H2296H4975H3947H6378H8081H3027H3212H7433H1568 2"Now when you arrive at that place, look there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, and go in and make him rise up from among his associates, and take him to an inner room.H935H7200H3058H1121H3092H1121H5250H935H6965H8432H251H935H2315H2315 3"Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, 'Thus says the LORD: "I have anointed you king over Israel."' Then open the door and flee, and do not delay."H3947H6378H8081H3332H7218H559H559H3068H4886H4428H3478H6605H1817H5127H2442 4So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead.H5288H5288H5030H3212H7433H1568 5And when he arrived, there were the captains of the army sitting; and he said, "I have a message for you, Commander." Jehu said, "For which one of us?" And he said, "For you, Commander."H935H8269H2428H3427H559H1697H8269H3058H559H559H8269 6Then he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.H6965H935H1004H3332H8081H7218H559H559H3068H430H3478H4886H4428H5971H3068H3478 7'You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.H5221H1004H256H113H5358H1818H5650H5030H1818H5650H3068H3027H348 8'For the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab all the males in Israel, both bond and free.H1004H256H6H3772H256H8366H7023H6113H5800H3478 9'So I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.H5414H1004H256H1004H3379H1121H5028H1004H1201H1121H281 10'The dogs shall eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.'" And he opened the door and fled.H3611H398H348H2506H3157H6912H6605H1817H5127 11Then Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, "Is all well? Why did this madman come to you?" And he said to them, "You know the man and his babble."H3058H3318H5650H113H559H7965H935H7696H559H3045H376H7879 12And they said, "A lie! Tell us now." So he said, "Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, 'Thus says the LORD: "I have anointed you king over Israel."'"H559H8267H5046H559H559H559H559H3068H4886H4428H3478 13Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, "Jehu is king!"H4116H3947H376H899H7760H1634H4609H8628H7782H559H3058H4427

Joram of Israel Killed

14So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had been defending Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, against Hazael king of Syria.H3058H1121H3092H1121H5250H7194H3141H3141H8104H7433H1568H3478H6440H2371H4428H758 15But King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, "If you are so minded, let no one leave or escape from the city to go and tell it in Jezreel."H4428H3088H7725H7495H3157H4347H761H5221H3898H2371H4428H758H3058H559H3426H5315H408H3318H6412H5892H3212H5046H3157 16So Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was laid up there; and Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.H3058H7392H3212H3157H3141H7901H274H4428H3063H3381H7200H3141 17Now a watchman stood on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a company of men." And Joram said, "Get a horseman and send him to meet them, and let him say, 'Is it peace?'"H5975H6822H4026H3157H7200H8229H3058H935H559H7200H8229H3088H559H3947H7395H7971H7125H559H7965 18So the horseman went to meet him, and said, "Thus says the king: 'Is it peace?'" And Jehu said, "What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me." So the watchman reported, saying, "The messenger went to them, but is not coming back."H3212H7392H5483H7125H559H559H4428H7965H3058H559H7965H5437H310H6822H5046H559H4397H935H7725 19Then he sent out a second horseman who came to them, and said, "Thus says the king: 'Is it peace?'" And Jehu answered, "What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me."H7971H8145H7392H5483H935H559H559H4428H7965H3058H559H7965H5437H310 20So the watchman reported, saying, "He went up to them and is not coming back; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously!"H6822H5046H559H935H7725H4491H4491H3058H1121H5250H5090H7697 21Then Joram said, "Make ready." And his chariot was made ready. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him on the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.H3088H559H631H7393H631H3088H4428H3478H274H4428H3063H3318H376H7393H3318H7125H3058H4672H2513H5022H3158 22Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" So he answered, "What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?"H3088H7200H3058H559H7965H3058H559H7965H5704H2183H517H348H3785H7227 23Then Joram turned around and fled, and said to Ahaziah, "Treachery, Ahaziah!"H3088H2015H3027H5127H559H274H4820H274 24Now Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Jehoram between his arms; and the arrow came out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.H3058H7198H4390H3027H5221H3088H2220H2678H3318H3820H3766H7393 25Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, "Pick him up, and throw him into the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, that the LORD laid this burden upon him:H559H920H7991H5375H7993H2513H7704H5022H3158H2142H7392H6776H310H256H1H3068H5375H4853 26'Surely I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD, 'and I will repay you in this plot,' says the LORD. Now therefore, take and throw him on the plot of ground, according to the word of the LORD."H7200H570H1818H5022H1818H1121H5002H3068H7999H2513H5002H3068H5375H7993H2513H1697H3068

Ahaziah of Judah Killed

27But when Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled by the road to Beth Haggan. So Jehu pursued him, and said, "Shoot him also in the chariot." And they shot him at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. Then he fled to Megiddo, and died there.H274H4428H3063H7200H5127H1870H1588H1004H3058H7291H310H559H5221H4818H4608H1483H2991H5127H4023H4191 28And his servants carried him in the chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the City of David.H5650H7392H3389H6912H6900H1H5892H1732 29In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king over Judah.H259H6240H8141H8141H3141H1121H256H274H4427H3063

Jezebel’s Violent Death

30Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window.H3058H935H3157H348H8085H7760H6320H5869H3190H7218H8259H2474 31Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, "Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?"H3058H935H8179H559H2174H7965H2026H113 32And he looked up at the window, and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" So two or three eunuchs looked out at him.H5375H6440H2474H559H8259H8147H7969H5631 33Then he said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.H559H8058H8058H1818H5137H7023H5483H7429 34And when he had gone in, he ate and drank. Then he said, "Go now, see to this accursed woman, and bury her, for she was a king's daughter."H935H398H8354H559H6485H779H6912H4428H1323 35So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.H3212H6912H4672H518H1538H7272H3709H3027 36Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, "This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;H7725H5046H559H1697H3068H1696H3027H5650H452H8664H559H2506H3157H3611H398H1320H348 37'and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as refuse on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, so that they shall not say, "Here lies Jezebel."'"H5038H348H1828H6440H7704H2506H3157H559H348
