Jehu Anointed King of Israel

9Then Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, "Tie up your garments, and take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.H477H5030H7121H259H1121H5030H559H2296H4975H3947H6378H8081H3027H3212H7433H1568 2And when you arrive, look there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. And go in and have him rise from among his fellows, and lead him to an inner chamber.H935H7200H3058H1121H3092H1121H5250H935H6965H8432H251H935H2315H2315 3Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, 'Thus says the LORD, I anoint you king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee; do not linger."H3947H6378H8081H3332H7218H559H559H3068H4886H4428H3478H6605H1817H5127H2442 4So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.H5288H5288H5030H3212H7433H1568 5And when he came, behold, the commanders of the army were in council. And he said, "I have a word for you, O commander." And Jehu said, "To which of us all?" And he said, "To you, O commander."H935H8269H2428H3427H559H1697H8269H3058H559H559H8269 6So he arose and went into the house. And the young man poured the oil on his head, saying to him, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, I anoint you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.H6965H935H1004H3332H8081H7218H559H559H3068H430H3478H4886H4428H5971H3068H3478 7And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD.H5221H1004H256H113H5358H1818H5650H5030H1818H5650H3068H3027H348 8For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel.H1004H256H6H3772H256H8366H7023H6113H5800H3478 9And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.H5414H1004H256H1004H3379H1121H5028H1004H1201H1121H281 10And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and none shall bury her." Then he opened the door and fled.H3611H398H348H2506H3157H6912H6605H1817H5127 11When Jehu came out to the servants of his master, they said to him, "Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?" And he said to them, "You know the fellow and his talk."H3058H3318H5650H113H559H7965H935H7696H559H3045H376H7879 12And they said, "That is not true; tell us now." And he said, "Thus and so he spoke to me, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, I anoint you king over Israel.'"H559H8267H5046H559H559H559H559H3068H4886H4428H3478 13Then in haste every man of them took his garment and put it under him on the bare steps, and they blew the trumpet and proclaimed, "Jehu is king."H4116H3947H376H899H7760H1634H4609H8628H7782H559H3058H4427

Jehu Assassinates Joram and Ahaziah

14Thus Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram with all Israel had been on guard at Ramoth-gilead against Hazael king of Syria,H3058H1121H3092H1121H5250H7194H3141H3141H8104H7433H1568H3478H6440H2371H4428H758 15but King Joram had returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds that the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) So Jehu said, "If this is your decision, then let no one slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel."H4428H3088H7725H7495H3157H4347H761H5221H3898H2371H4428H758H3058H559H3426H5315H408H3318H6412H5892H3212H5046H3157 16Then Jehu mounted his chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to visit Joram.H3058H7392H3212H3157H3141H7901H274H4428H3063H3381H7200H3141 17Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said, "I see a company." And Joram said, "Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say, 'Is it peace?'"H5975H6822H4026H3157H7200H8229H3058H935H559H7200H8229H3088H559H3947H7395H7971H7125H559H7965 18So a man on horseback went to meet him and said, "Thus says the king, 'Is it peace?'" And Jehu said, "What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me." And the watchman reported, saying, "The messenger reached them, but he is not coming back."H3212H7392H5483H7125H559H559H4428H7965H3058H559H7965H5437H310H6822H5046H559H4397H935H7725 19Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, "Thus the king has said, 'Is it peace?'" And Jehu answered, "What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me."H7971H8145H7392H5483H935H559H559H4428H7965H3058H559H7965H5437H310 20Again the watchman reported, "He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously."H6822H5046H559H935H7725H4491H4491H3058H1121H5250H5090H7697 21Joram said, "Make ready." And they made ready his chariot. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah set out, each in his chariot, and went to meet Jehu, and met him at the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.H3088H559H631H7393H631H3088H4428H3478H274H4428H3063H3318H376H7393H3318H7125H3058H4672H2513H5022H3158 22And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" He answered, "What peace can there be, so long as the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?"H3088H7200H3058H559H7965H3058H559H7965H5704H2183H517H348H3785H7227 23Then Joram reined about and fled, saying to Ahaziah, "Treachery, O Ahaziah!"H3088H2015H3027H5127H559H274H4820H274 24And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and shot Joram between the shoulders, so that the arrow pierced his heart, and he sank in his chariot.H3058H7198H4390H3027H5221H3088H2220H2678H3318H3820H3766H7393 25Jehu said to Bidkar his aide, "Take him up and throw him on the plot of ground belonging to Naboth the Jezreelite. For remember, when you and I rode side by side behind Ahab his father, how the LORD made this pronouncement against him:H559H920H7991H5375H7993H2513H7704H5022H3158H2142H7392H6776H310H256H1H3068H5375H4853 26'As surely as I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons—declares the LORD—I will repay you on this plot of ground.' Now therefore take him up and throw him on the plot of ground, in accordance with the word of the LORD."H7200H570H1818H5022H1818H1121H5002H3068H7999H2513H5002H3068H5375H7993H2513H1697H3068 27When Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled in the direction of Beth-haggan. And Jehu pursued him and said, "Shoot him also." And they shot him in the chariot at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there.H274H4428H3063H7200H5127H1870H1588H1004H3058H7291H310H559H5221H4818H4608H1483H2991H5127H4023H4191 28His servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the city of David.H5650H7392H3389H6912H6900H1H5892H1732 29In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah began to reign over Judah.H259H6240H8141H8141H3141H1121H256H274H4427H3063 30When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window.H3058H935H3157H348H8085H7760H6320H5869H3190H7218H8259H2474 31And as Jehu entered the gate, she said, "Is it peace, you Zimri, murderer of your master?"H3058H935H8179H559H2174H7965H2026H113 32And he lifted up his face to the window and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" Two or three eunuchs looked out at him.H5375H6440H2474H559H8259H8147H7969H5631 33He said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down. And some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses, and they trampled on her.H559H8058H8058H1818H5137H7023H5483H7429 34Then he went in and ate and drank. And he said, "See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter."H935H398H8354H559H6485H779H6912H4428H1323 35But when they went to bury her, they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.H3212H6912H4672H518H1538H7272H3709H3027 36When they came back and told him, he said, "This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, 'In the territory of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel,H7725H5046H559H1697H3068H1696H3027H5650H452H8664H559H2506H3157H3611H398H1320H348 37and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the territory of Jezreel, so that no one can say, This is Jezebel.'"H5038H348H1828H6440H7704H2506H3157H559H348
