David Reigns over All Israel

5Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, "Indeed we are your bone and your flesh.H935H7626H3478H1732H2275H559H559H6106H1320 2"Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD said to you, 'You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.'"H865H8032H7586H4428H3318H935H3478H3068H559H7462H5971H3478H5057H3478 3Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel.H2205H3478H935H4428H2275H4428H1732H3772H1285H2275H6440H3068H4886H1732H4428H3478 4David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.H1732H7970H8141H1121H4427H4427H705H8141 5In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.H2275H4427H3063H7651H8141H8337H2320H3389H4427H7970H7969H8141H3478H3063

The Conquest of Jerusalem

6And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, "You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you," thinking, "David cannot come in here."H4428H582H3212H3389H2983H3427H776H559H1732H559H5493H5787H6455H935H559H1732H935 7Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David).H1732H3920H4686H6726H5892H1732 8Now David said on that day, "Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David's soul), he shall be chief and captain." Therefore they say, "The blind and the lame shall not come into the house."H1732H559H3117H5060H6794H5221H2983H6455H5787H8130H1732H5315H559H5787H6455H935H1004 9Then David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward.H1732H3427H4686H7121H5892H1732H1732H1129H5439H4407H1004 10So David went on and became great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.H1732H3212H1980H1419H3068H430H6635 11Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters and masons. And they built David a house.H2438H4428H6865H7971H4397H1732H730H6086H2796H7023H68H1129H1732H1004 12So David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted His kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.H1732H3045H3068H3559H4428H3478H5375H4467H5971H3478 13And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. Also more sons and daughters were born to David.H1732H3947H6370H802H3389H310H935H2275H1121H1323H3205H1732 14Now these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,H8034H3209H3389H8051H7727H5416H8010 15Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,H2984H474H5298H3309 16Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.H476H450H467

The Philistines Defeated

17Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold.H6430H8085H4886H1732H4428H3478H6430H5927H1245H1732H1732H8085H3381H4686 18The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.H6430H935H5203H6010H7497 19So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand."H1732H7592H3068H559H5927H6430H5414H3027H3068H559H1732H5927H5414H5414H6430H3027 20So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.H1732H935H1188H1732H5221H559H3068H6555H341H6440H6556H4325H7121H8034H4725H1188 21And they left their images there, and David and his men carried them away.H5800H6091H1732H582H5375 22Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.H6430H5927H3254H5203H6010H7497 23Therefore David inquired of the LORD, and He said, "You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.H1732H7592H3068H559H5927H5437H310H935H4136H1057 24"And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines."H8085H6963H6807H7218H1057H2782H3068H3318H6440H5221H4264H6430 25And David did so, as the LORD commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.H1732H6213H3068H6680H5221H6430H1387H935H1507
