The Lord’s Covenant with David

7When the king had settled into his palace and the LORD had given him rest on every side from all his enemies,H4428H3427H1004H3068H5117H5439H341
2the king said to Nathan the prophet, "Look, I am living in a cedar house while the ark of God sits inside tent curtains."H4428H559H5416H5030H7200H3427H1004H730H727H430H3427H8432H3407
3So Nathan told the king, "Go and do all that is on your heart, for the LORD is with you."H5416H559H4428H3212H6213H3824H3068
4But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan:H3915H1697H3068H5416H559
5"Go to My servant David and say, 'This is what the LORD says: Are you to build a house for Me to live in?H3212H559H5650H1732H559H3068H1129H1004H3427
6From the time I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until today I have not lived in a house; instead, I have been moving around with the tabernacle tent.H3427H1004H3117H5927H1121H3478H4714H3117H1980H168H4908
7In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked anyone among the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel: Why haven't you built Me a house of cedar?'H1980H1121H3478H1696H1697H259H7626H3478H6680H7462H5971H3478H559H1129H1004H730
8"Now this is what you are to say to My servant David: 'This is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.H559H5650H1732H559H3068H6635H3947H5116H310H6629H5057H5971H3478
9I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest in the land.H1980H3772H341H6440H6213H1419H8034H8034H1419H776
10I will establish a place for My people Israel and plant them, so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not afflict them as they have doneH7760H4725H5971H3478H5193H7931H7264H1121H5766H6031H3254H7223
11ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. " 'The LORD declares to you: The LORD Himself will make a house for you.H3117H6680H8199H5971H3478H5117H341H3068H5046H6213H1004
12When your time comes and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.H3117H4390H7901H1H6965H2233H310H3318H4578H3559H4467
13He will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.H1129H1004H8034H3559H3678H4467H5704H5769
14I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a human rod and with blows from others.H1H1121H5753H3198H7626H582H5061H1121H120
15But My faithful love will never leave him as I removed it from Saul; I removed him from your way.H2617H5493H5493H7586H5493H6440
16Your house and kingdom will endure before Me forever, and your throne will be established forever.'"H1004H4467H539H5704H5769H6440H3678H3559H5704H5769
17Nathan spoke all these words and this entire vision to David.H1697H2384H5416H1696H1732

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

18Then King David went in, sat in the LORD's presence, and said, "Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far?H935H4428H1732H3427H6440H3068H559H136H3069H1004H935H1988
19What You have done so far was a little thing to You, Lord God, for You have also spoken about Your servant's house in the distant future. And this is a revelation for mankind, Lord God.H6994H5869H136H3069H1696H5650H1004H7350H8452H120H136H3069
20What more can David say to You? You know Your servant, Lord God.H3254H1732H1696H3254H136H3069H3045H5650
21Because of Your word and according to Your will, You have revealed all these great things to Your servant.H1697H3820H6213H1420H5650H3045
22"This is why You are great, Lord God. There is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms.H1431H3068H430H430H2108H8085H241
23And who is like Your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for Himself, to make a name for Himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before Your people You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt.H259H1471H776H5971H3478H430H1980H6299H5971H7760H8034H6213H1420H3372H776H6440H5971H6299H4714H1471H430
24You established Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, LORD, have become their God.H3559H5971H3478H5971H5704H5769H3068H1961H430
25"Now, LORD God, fulfill the promise forever that You have made to Your servant and his house. Do as You have promised,H3068H430H1697H1696H5650H1004H6965H5704H5769H6213H1696
26so that Your name will be exalted forever, when it is said, 'The LORD of Hosts is God over Israel.' The house of Your servant David will be established before YouH8034H1431H5704H5769H559H3068H6635H430H3478H1004H5650H1732H3559H6440
27since You, LORD of Hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant when You said, 'I will build a house for you.' Therefore, Your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to You.H3068H6635H430H3478H1540H241H5650H559H1129H1004H5650H4672H3820H6419H8605
28Lord God, You are God; Your words are true, and You have promised this grace to Your servant.H136H3069H430H1697H571H1696H2896H5650
29Now, please bless Your servant's house so that it will continue before You forever. For You, Lord God, have spoken, and with Your blessing Your servant's house will be blessed forever."H2974H1288H1004H5650H5769H6440H136H3069H1696H1293H1004H5650H1288H5769
