Paul and Barnabas in Iconium

14The same thing happened in Iconiumc. Paul and Barnabas went to the Jewish synagogue and preached with such power that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers.G1161G1096G1722G2430G846G1525G2596G846G1519G4864G2453G2532G3779G2980G5620G4183G4128G5037G2453G2532G1672G41002Some of the Jews, however, spurned God's message and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against Paul and Barnabas.G1161G544G2453G1892G1484G2532G2559G5590G2559G2596G803But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.G2425G5550G3303G3767G1304G3955G1909G2962G3588G3140G3056G846G5485G2532G1325G4592G2532G5059G1096G1223G846G54954But the people of the town were divided in their opinion about them. Some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.G1161G4128G4172G4977G2532G3303G2258G4862G2453G1161G4862G6525Then a mob of Gentiles and Jews, along with their leaders, decided to attack and stone them.G1161G5613G1096G3730G1096G5037G1484G2532G2453G4862G846G758G5195G2532G3036G8466When the apostles learned of it, they fled to the region of Lycaonia—to the towns of Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding area.G4894G2703G1519G3082G2532G1191G4172G3071G2532G40667And there they preached the Good News.G2546G2258G2097

Paul and Barnabas in Lystra and Derbe

8While they were at Lystra, Paul and Barnabas came upon a man with crippled feet. He had been that way from birth, so he had never walked. He was sittingG2532G2521G5100G435G1722G3082G102G4228G5225G5560G1537G846G3384G2836G3739G3763G40439and listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed.G3778G191G3972G2980G3739G816G846G2532G1492G3754G2192G4102G498210So Paul called to him in a loud voice, "Stand up!" And the man jumped to his feet and started walking.G2036G3173G5456G450G3717G1909G4675G4228G2532G242G2532G404311When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, "These men are gods in human form!"G1161G3793G1492G3739G3972G4160G1869G846G5456G3004G3072G2316G2597G4314G2248G3666G44412They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul was Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.G5037G2564G921G3303G2203G1161G3972G2060G1894G846G2258G2233G305613Now the temple of Zeus was located just outside the town. So the priest of the temple and the crowd brought bulls and wreaths of flowers to the town gates, and they prepared to offer sacrifices to the apostles.G1161G2409G2203G3588G5607G4253G846G4172G5342G5022G2532G4725G1909G4440G2309G2380G4862G379314But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening, they tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people, shouting,G1161G652G921G2532G3972G191G1284G846G2440G1530G1519G3793G289615"Friendsc, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.G2532G3004G435G5101G4160G5130G2249G2532G2070G444G3663G5213G2097G5209G1994G575G5023G3152G1909G2198G2316G3739G4160G3772G2532G1093G2532G2281G2532G3956G1722G84616In the past he permitted all the nations to go their own ways,G3739G1722G1074G3944G1439G3956G1484G4198G846G359817but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts."G2544G2532G863G3756G1438G267G15G1325G2254G5205G3771G2532G2593G2540G1705G2257G2588G5160G2532G216718But even with these words, Paul and Barnabas could scarcely restrain the people from sacrificing to them.G2532G5023G3004G3433G2664G3793G2380G3361G2380G84619Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowds to their side. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of town, thinking he was dead.G1161G1904G2453G575G490G2532G2430G2532G3982G3793G2532G3034G3972G4951G1854G4172G3543G846G234820But as the believersc gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.G1161G3101G2944G846G450G1525G1519G4172G2532G1887G1831G4862G921G1519G1191

Paul and Barnabas Return to Antioch of Syria

21After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia,G5037G2097G1565G4172G2532G3100G2425G5290G1519G3082G2532G2430G2532G49022where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.G1991G5590G3101G3870G1696G4102G2532G3754G2248G1163G1223G4183G2347G1525G1519G932G231623Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.G1161G5500G846G4245G2596G1577G4336G3326G3521G3908G846G2962G1519G3739G410024Then they traveled back through Pisidia to Pamphylia.G2532G1330G4099G2064G1519G382825They preached the word in Perga, then went down to Attalia.G2532G2980G3056G1722G4011G2597G1519G82526Finally, they returned by ship to Antioch of Syria, where their journey had begun. The believers there had entrusted them to the grace of God to do the work they had now completed.G2547G636G1519G490G3606G2258G3860G5485G2316G1519G2041G3739G413727Upon arriving in Antioch, they called the church together and reported everything God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles, too.G1161G3854G2532G4863G1577G4863G312G3745G2316G4160G3326G846G2532G3754G455G2374G4102G148428And they stayed there with the believers for a long time.G1161G1563G1304G3756G3641G5550G4862G3101
