Paul Is Sent to Rome

27And when it was decided that we should sail for Italy, they proceeded to deliver Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan cohort named Julius.G1161G5613G2919G2248G636G1519G2482G3860G5037G3972G2532G5100G2087G1202G3686G2457G1543G4575G4686 2And embarking in an Adramyttian ship, which was about to sail to the regions along the coast of Asia, we put out to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica.G1161G1910G4143G98G321G3195G4126G2596G5117G773G708G3110G2331G5607G4862G2254 3And the next day we put in at Sidon; and Julius treated Paul with consideration and allowed him to go to his friends and receive care.G5037G2087G2609G1519G4605G5037G2457G5364G5530G3972G2010G4198G4314G5384G5177G1958 4And from there we put out to sea and sailed under the shelter of Cyprus because the winds were contrary.G2547G321G2547G5284G2954G1223G417G1511G1727 5And when we had sailed through the sea along the coast of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we landed at Myra in Lycia.G5037G1277G3989G2596G2791G2532G3828G2718G1519G3460G3073 6And there the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy, and he put us aboard it.G2546G1543G2147G4143G222G4126G1519G2482G1688G2248G1519G846 7And when we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and with difficulty had arrived off Cnidus, since the wind did not permit us [to go] farther, we sailed under the shelter of Crete, off Salmone;G1161G1020G1722G2425G2250G2532G3433G1096G2596G2834G417G3361G4330G2248G5284G2914G2596G4534 8and with difficulty sailing past it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near which was the city of Lasea.G5037G3433G3881G846G2064G1519G5100G5117G2564G2570G2568G3040G1451G3739G2258G4172G2996 9And when considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even the fast was already over, Paul [began] to admonish them,G1161G2425G5550G1230G2532G4144G5607G2235G2000G1223G3521G3928G2532G2235G3928G3972G3867 10and said to them, "Men, I perceive that the voyage will certainly be [attended] with damage and great loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives."G3004G846G435G2334G3754G4144G3195G1510G3326G5196G2532G4183G2209G3756G3440G5414G2532G4143G235G2532G2257G5590 11But the centurion was more persuaded by the pilot and the captain of the ship, than by what was being said by Paul.G1161G1543G3982G2942G2532G3490G3123G2228G3004G5259G3972 12And because the harbor was not suitable for wintering, the majority reached a decision to put out to sea from there, if somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete, facing southwest and northwest, and spend the winter [there.]G1161G5225G3040G5225G428G4314G3915G4119G1012G5087G321G2547G1513G4458G1410G2658G1519G5405G3914G3040G2914G991G2596G3047G2532G2596G5566 13And when a moderate south wind came up, supposing that they had gained their purpose, they weighed anchor and [began] sailing along Crete, close [inshore.]G1161G3558G5285G1380G2902G4286G142G3881G788G2914

Shipwreck

14But before very long there rushed down from the land a violent wind, called Euraquilo;G1161G3756G4183G3326G906G2596G846G5189G417G2564G2148 15and when the ship was caught [in it,] and could not face the wind, we gave way [to it,] and let ourselves be driven along.G1161G4143G4884G2532G1410G3361G503G417G1929G5342 16And running under the shelter of a small island called Clauda, we were scarcely able to get the [ship's] boat under control.G1161G5295G5100G3519G2564G2802G2480G3433G2480G4031G1096G4627 17And after they had hoisted it up, they used supporting cables in undergirding the ship; and fearing that they might run aground on [the shallows] of Syrtis, they let down the sea anchor, and so let themselves be driven along.G3739G142G5530G996G5269G4143G5037G5399G3361G1601G1519G4950G5465G4632G3779G5342 18The next day as we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to jettison the cargo;G1161G2257G4971G5492G1836G1546G4160 19and on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands.G2532G5154G4496G849G4631G4143 20And since neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm was assailing [us,] from then on all hope of our being saved was gradually abandoned.G1161G3383G2246G3383G798G1909G4119G2250G2014G5037G3756G3641G5494G1945G3956G1680G2248G4982G4014G3063G4014 21And when they had gone a long time without food, then Paul stood up in their midst and said, "Men, you ought to have followed my advice and not to have set sail from Crete, and incurred this damage and loss.G1161G5225G4183G776G5119G3972G2476G1722G3319G846G2036G5599G435G1163G3303G3980G3427G3361G321G575G2914G5037G2770G5026G5196G2532G2209 22"And [yet] now I urge you to keep up your courage, for there shall be no loss of life among you, but [only] of the ship.G2532G3569G3867G5209G2114G1063G2071G3762G580G5590G1537G5216G4133G4143 23"For this very night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood before me,G1063G3936G3427G5026G3571G32G2316G3739G1510G2532G3739G3000 24saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar; and behold, God has granted you all those who are sailing with you.'G3004G5399G3361G3972G4571G1163G3936G2541G2532G2400G2316G5483G4671G3956G4126G3326G4675 25"Therefore, keep up your courage, men, for I believe God, that it will turn out exactly as I have been told.G1352G435G2114G1063G4100G2316G3754G3779G2071G2596G3739G5158G2980G3427 26"But we must run aground on a certain island."G1161G2248G1163G1601G1519G5100G3520 27But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were being driven about in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors [began] to surmise that they were approaching some land.G1161G5613G5065G3571G1096G2257G1308G1722G99G2596G3319G3571G3492G5282G846G4317G5100G5561 28And they took soundings, and found [it to be] twenty fathoms; and a little farther on they took another sounding and found [it to be] fifteen fathoms.G2532G1001G2147G1501G3712G1161G1339G1024G1001G3825G2532G2147G1178G3712 29And fearing that we might run aground somewhere on the rocks, they cast four anchors from the stern and wished for daybreak.G5037G5399G3381G4458G1601G1601G1519G5117G5138G4496G5064G45G1537G4403G2172G1096G2250 30And as the sailors were trying to escape from the ship, and had let down the [ship's] boat into the sea, on the pretense of intending to lay out anchors from the bow,G1161G3492G2212G5343G1537G4143G2532G5465G4627G1519G2281G4392G5613G3195G1614G45G1537G4408 31Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, "Unless these men remain in the ship, you yourselves cannot be saved."G3972G2036G1543G2532G4757G3362G3778G3306G1722G4143G5210G3756G1410G4982 32Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the [ship's] boat, and let it fall away.G5119G4757G609G4979G4627G2532G1439G846G1601 33And until the day was about to dawn, Paul was encouraging them all to take some food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day that you have been constantly watching and going without eating, having taken nothing.G1161G891G3739G2250G1096G3195G3972G3870G537G3335G5160G3004G4594G5065G2250G4328G1300G777G4355G3367 34"Therefore I encourage you to take some food, for this is for your preservation; for not a hair from the head of any of you shall perish."G1352G3870G5209G4355G5160G1063G5124G5225G4314G5212G4991G1063G4098G3762G2359G4098G1537G2776G3762G5216 35And having said this, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of all; and he broke it and began to eat.G1161G5023G2036G2532G2983G740G2168G2316G1799G3956G2532G2806G756G2068 36And all of them were encouraged, and they themselves also took food.G1161G1096G846G1096G3956G2115G4355G2532G4355G5160 37And all of us in the ship were two hundred and seventy-six persons.G1161G2258G3956G1722G4143G1250G1440G1803G5590 38And when they had eaten enough, they [began] to lighten the ship by throwing out the wheat into the sea.G1161G5160G2880G2893G4143G1544G4621G1519G2281 39And when day came, they could not recognize the land; but they did observe a certain bay with a beach, and they resolved to drive the ship onto it if they could.G1161G3753G1096G2250G1921G3756G1093G1161G2657G5100G2859G2192G123G1519G3739G1011G1487G1410G1856G4143 40And casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea while at the same time they were loosening the ropes of the rudders, and hoisting the foresail to the wind, they were heading for the beach.G2532G4014G45G1439G1519G2281G260G447G4079G2202G2532G1869G736G4154G2722G1519G123 41But striking a reef where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern [began] to be broken up by the force [of the waves.]G1161G4045G1519G5117G1337G2027G3491G2027G2532G4408G3303G2043G3306G761G1161G4403G3089G5259G970G2949 42And the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, that none [of them] should swim away and escape;G1161G4757G1012G1096G2443G615G1202G3361G5100G1579G1309 43but the centurion, wanting to bring Paul safely through, kept them from their intention, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land,G1161G1543G1014G1295G3972G2967G846G1013G5037G2753G1410G2860G641G4413G1826G1909G1093 44and the rest [should follow], some on planks, and others on various things from the ship. And thus it happened that they all were brought safely to land.G2532G3062G3739G3303G1909G4548G1161G3739G1909G575G4143G5100G2532G3779G1096G1295G3956G1295G1909G1093
