The Voyage to Rome Begins

27And when it was decided that we should sail to Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to one named Julius, a centurion of the Augustan Regiment.G1161G5613G2919G2248G636G1519G2482G3860G5037G3972G2532G5100G2087G1202G3686G2457G1543G4575G4686 2So, entering a ship of Adramyttium, we put to sea, meaning to sail along the coasts of Asia. Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, was with us.G1161G1910G4143G98G321G3195G4126G2596G5117G773G708G3110G2331G5607G4862G2254 3And the next day we landed at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him liberty to go to his friends and receive care.G5037G2087G2609G1519G4605G5037G2457G5364G5530G3972G2010G4198G4314G5384G5177G1958 4When we had put to sea from there, we sailed under the shelter of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.G2547G321G2547G5284G2954G1223G417G1511G1727 5And when we had sailed over the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.G5037G1277G3989G2596G2791G2532G3828G2718G1519G3460G3073 6There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing to Italy, and he put us on board.G2546G1543G2147G4143G222G4126G1519G2482G1688G2248G1519G846 7When we had sailed slowly many days, and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, the wind not permitting us to proceed, we sailed under the shelter of Crete off Salmone.G1161G1020G1722G2425G2250G2532G3433G1096G2596G2834G417G3361G4330G2248G5284G2914G2596G4534 8Passing it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.G5037G3433G3881G846G2064G1519G5100G5117G2564G2570G2568G3040G1451G3739G2258G4172G2996

Paul’s Warning Ignored

9Now when much time had been spent, and sailing was now dangerous because the Fast was already over, Paul advised them,G1161G2425G5550G1230G2532G4144G5607G2235G2000G1223G3521G3928G2532G2235G3928G3972G3867 10saying, "Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives."G3004G846G435G2334G3754G4144G3195G1510G3326G5196G2532G4183G2209G3756G3440G5414G2532G4143G235G2532G2257G5590 11Nevertheless the centurion was more persuaded by the helmsman and the owner of the ship than by the things spoken by Paul.G1161G1543G3982G2942G2532G3490G3123G2228G3004G5259G3972 12And because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised to set sail from there also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete opening toward the southwest and northwest, and winter there.G1161G5225G3040G5225G428G4314G3915G4119G1012G5087G321G2547G1513G4458G1410G2658G1519G5405G3914G3040G2914G991G2596G3047G2532G2596G5566

In the Tempest

13When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their desire, putting out to sea, they sailed close by Crete.G1161G3558G5285G1380G2902G4286G142G3881G788G2914 14But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon.G1161G3756G4183G3326G906G2596G846G5189G417G2564G2148 15So when the ship was caught, and could not head into the wind, we let her drive.G1161G4143G4884G2532G1410G3361G503G417G1929G5342 16And running under the shelter of an island called Clauda, we secured the skiff with difficulty.G1161G5295G5100G3519G2564G2802G2480G3433G2480G4031G1096G4627 17When they had taken it on board, they used cables to undergird the ship; and fearing lest they should run aground on the Syrtis Sands, they struck sail and so were driven.G3739G142G5530G996G5269G4143G5037G5399G3361G1601G1519G4950G5465G4632G3779G5342 18And because we were exceedingly tempest-tossed, the next day they lightened the ship.G1161G2257G4971G5492G1836G1546G4160 19On the third day we threw the ship's tackle overboard with our own hands.G2532G5154G4496G849G4631G4143 20Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up.G1161G3383G2246G3383G798G1909G4119G2250G2014G5037G3756G3641G5494G1945G3956G1680G2248G4982G4014G3063G4014 21But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, "Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss.G1161G5225G4183G776G5119G3972G2476G1722G3319G846G2036G5599G435G1163G3303G3980G3427G3361G321G575G2914G5037G2770G5026G5196G2532G2209 22"And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.G2532G3569G3867G5209G2114G1063G2071G3762G580G5590G1537G5216G4133G4143 23"For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve,G1063G3936G3427G5026G3571G32G2316G3739G1510G2532G3739G3000 24"saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.'G3004G5399G3361G3972G4571G1163G3936G2541G2532G2400G2316G5483G4671G3956G4126G3326G4675 25"Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.G1352G435G2114G1063G4100G2316G3754G3779G2071G2596G3739G5158G2980G3427 26"However, we must run aground on a certain island."G1161G2248G1163G1601G1519G5100G3520 27Now when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors sensed that they were drawing near some land.G1161G5613G5065G3571G1096G2257G1308G1722G99G2596G3319G3571G3492G5282G846G4317G5100G5561 28And they took soundings and found it to be twenty fathoms; and when they had gone a little farther, they took soundings again and found it to be fifteen fathoms.G2532G1001G2147G1501G3712G1161G1339G1024G1001G3825G2532G2147G1178G3712 29Then, fearing lest we should run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern, and prayed for day to come.G5037G5399G3381G4458G1601G1601G1519G5117G5138G4496G5064G45G1537G4403G2172G1096G2250 30And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, when they had let down the skiff into the sea, under pretense of putting out anchors from the prow,G1161G3492G2212G5343G1537G4143G2532G5465G4627G1519G2281G4392G5613G3195G1614G45G1537G4408 31Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved."G3972G2036G1543G2532G4757G3362G3778G3306G1722G4143G5210G3756G1410G4982 32Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the skiff and let it fall off.G5119G4757G609G4979G4627G2532G1439G846G1601 33And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing.G1161G891G3739G2250G1096G3195G3972G3870G537G3335G5160G3004G4594G5065G2250G4328G1300G777G4355G3367 34"Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you."G1352G3870G5209G4355G5160G1063G5124G5225G4314G5212G4991G1063G4098G3762G2359G4098G1537G2776G3762G5216 35And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat.G1161G5023G2036G2532G2983G740G2168G2316G1799G3956G2532G2806G756G2068 36Then they were all encouraged, and also took food themselves.G1161G1096G846G1096G3956G2115G4355G2532G4355G5160 37And in all we were two hundred and seventy-six persons on the ship.G1161G2258G3956G1722G4143G1250G1440G1803G5590 38So when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and threw out the wheat into the sea.G1161G5160G2880G2893G4143G1544G4621G1519G2281

Shipwrecked on Malta

39When it was day, they did not recognize the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, onto which they planned to run the ship if possible.G1161G3753G1096G2250G1921G3756G1093G1161G2657G5100G2859G2192G123G1519G3739G1011G1487G1410G1856G4143 40And they let go the anchors and left them in the sea, meanwhile loosing the rudder ropes; and they hoisted the mainsail to the wind and made for shore.G2532G4014G45G1439G1519G2281G260G447G4079G2202G2532G1869G736G4154G2722G1519G123 41But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves.G1161G4045G1519G5117G1337G2027G3491G2027G2532G4408G3303G2043G3306G761G1161G4403G3089G5259G970G2949 42And the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape.G1161G4757G1012G1096G2443G615G1202G3361G5100G1579G1309 43But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land,G1161G1543G1014G1295G3972G2967G846G1013G5037G2753G1410G2860G641G4413G1826G1909G1093 44and the rest, some on boards and some on parts of the ship. And so it was that they all escaped safely to land.G2532G3062G3739G3303G1909G4548G1161G3739G1909G575G4143G5100G2532G3779G1096G1295G3956G1295G1909G1093
