Safe at Malta

28And when they had been brought safely through, then we found out that the island was called Malta.G2532G1295G5119G1921G3754G3520G2564G3194 2And the natives showed us extraordinary kindness; for because of the rain that had set in and because of the cold, they kindled a fire and received us all.G1161G915G3930G2254G3756G5177G5363G1063G381G4443G4355G2248G3956G1223G2186G5205G2532G1223G5592 3But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand.G1161G3972G4962G4128G5434G2532G2007G1909G4443G1831G2191G1537G2329G2510G846G5495 4And when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they [ began] saying to one another, "Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, and though he has been saved from the sea, justice has not allowed him to live."G1161G5613G915G1492G2342G2910G1537G846G5495G3004G4314G240G3843G3778G444G2076G5406G3739G1295G1537G2281G1349G1439G3756G2198 5However he shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm.G3303G3767G660G2342G1519G4442G3958G3762G2556 6But they were expecting that he was about to swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had waited a long time and had seen nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and [began] to say that he was a god.G1161G4328G846G3195G4092G2228G2667G3498G869G1161G846G4328G1909G4183G2532G2334G3367G824G1096G1519G846G3328G3004G846G1511G2316 7Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us courteously three days.G1161G1722G4012G1565G5117G5225G5564G4413G3520G3686G4196G3739G324G2248G3579G5140G2250G5390 8And it came about that the father of Publius was lying [in bed] afflicted with [recurrent] fever and dysentery; and Paul went in [to see] him and after he had prayed, he laid his hands on him and healed him.G1161G1096G3962G4196G2621G4912G4446G2532G1420G4314G3739G3972G1525G2532G4336G2007G5495G2007G846G2390G846 9And after this had happened, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases were coming to him and getting cured.G3767G1096G5127G1096G3062G2532G3588G2192G769G1722G3520G4334G2532G2323 10And they also honored us with many marks of respect; and when we were setting sail, they supplied [us] with all we needed.G3739G2532G5092G2248G4183G5091G2532G321G2007G4314G5532

Paul Arrives at Rome

11And at the end of three months we set sail on an Alexandrian ship which had wintered at the island, and which had the Twin Brothers for its figurehead.G1161G3326G5140G3376G321G1722G4143G222G3914G1722G3520G3902G1359 12And after we put in at Syracuse, we stayed there for three days.G2532G2609G1519G4946G1961G5140G2250 13And from there we sailed around and arrived at Rhegium, and a day later a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli.G3606G4022G2658G1519G4484G2532G3326G3391G2250G3558G1920G2064G1206G1519G4223 14There we found [some] brethren, and were invited to stay with them for seven days; and thus we came to Rome.G3757G2147G80G3870G1961G1909G846G2033G2250G2532G3779G2064G1519G4516 15And the brethren, when they heard about us, came from there as far as the Market of Appius and Three Inns to meet us; and when Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.G2547G80G191G4012G2257G1831G529G1519G2254G891G675G5410G2532G5140G4999G3739G3972G1492G2168G2316G2983G2294 16And when we entered Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.G1161G3753G2064G1519G4516G1543G3860G1198G4759G1161G3972G2010G3306G2596G1438G4862G4757G5442G846 17And it happened that after three days he called together those who were the leading men of the Jews, and when they had come together, he [began] saying to them, "Brethren, though I had done nothing against our people, or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.G1161G1096G3326G5140G2250G3972G4779G4413G5607G2453G4779G1161G846G4905G3004G4314G846G435G80G1473G4160G3762G1727G2992G2228G1485G3971G3860G1198G1537G2414G1519G5495G4514 18"And when they had examined me, they were willing to release me because there was no ground for putting me to death.G3748G350G3165G1014G630G1223G5225G3367G156G2288G1722G1698 19"But when the Jews objected, I was forced to appeal to Caesar; not that I had any accusation against my nation.G1161G2453G483G315G1941G2541G3756G5613G2192G5100G2723G3450G1484G2723 20"For this reason therefore, I requested to see you and to speak with you, for I am wearing this chain for the sake of the hope of Israel."G1223G5026G156G3767G3870G5209G1492G2532G4354G1752G1063G1680G2474G4029G5026G254 21And they said to him, "We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you.G1161G2036G4314G846G2249G3777G1209G1121G575G2449G4012G4675G3777G5100G80G3854G518G2228G2980G5100G4190G4012G4675 22"But we desire to hear from you what your views are; for concerning this sect, it is known to us that it is spoken against everywhere."G1161G515G191G3844G4675G3739G5426G1063G4012G3303G5026G139G2254G2076G1110G3754G3837G483 23And when they had set a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in large numbers; and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about the kingdom of God, and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening.G1161G5021G846G2250G2240G4119G4314G846G1519G3578G3739G1620G1263G932G2316G5037G3982G846G4012G2424G5037G575G3551G3475G2532G4396G575G4404G2193G2073 24And some were being persuaded by the things spoken, but others would not believe.G2532G3303G3982G3004G1161G569 25And when they did not agree with one another, they [began] leaving after Paul had spoken one [parting] word, "The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,G1161G800G5607G4314G240G630G3972G2036G1520G4487G3754G2573G2980G40G4151G1223G2268G4396G4314G2257G3962 26saying, 'GO TO THIS PEOPLE AND SAY, "YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; AND YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;G3004G4198G4314G5126G2992G2532G2036G189G191G2532G4920G3364G4920G2532G991G991G2532G3364G1492 27FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, AND WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES; LEST THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I SHOULD HEAL THEM.
