Daniel’s Prayer for His People

9In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of Median descent, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans—H259H8141H1867H1121H325H2233H4074H4427H4438H3778 2in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, observed in the books the number of the years which was [revealed as] the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, [namely,] seventy years.H259H8141H4427H1840H995H5612H4557H8141H1697H3068H3414H5030H4390H7657H8141H2723H3389 3So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek [Him by] prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.H5414H6440H136H430H1245H8605H8469H6685H8242H665 4And I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed and said, "Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments,H6419H3068H430H3034H559H577H136H1419H3372H410H8104H1285H2617H157H8104H4687 5we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly, and rebelled, even turning aside from Thy commandments and ordinances.H2398H5753H7561H4775H5493H4687H4941 6"Moreover, we have not listened to Thy servants the prophets, who spoke in Thy name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land.H8085H5650H5030H1696H8034H4428H8269H1H5971H776 7"Righteousness belongs to Thee, O Lord, but to us open shame, as it is this day— to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in all the countries to which Thou hast driven them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against Thee.H136H6666H1322H6440H3117H376H3063H3427H3389H3478H7138H7350H776H5080H4604H4603 8"Open shame belongs to us, O Lord, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against Thee.H136H1322H6440H4428H8269H1H2398 9"To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against Him;H136H430H7356H5547H4775 10nor have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His teachings which He set before us through His servants the prophets.H8085H6963H3068H430H3212H8451H5414H6440H3027H5650H5030 11"Indeed all Israel has transgressed Thy law and turned aside, not obeying Thy voice; so the curse has been poured out on us, along with the oath which is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, for we have sinned against Him.H3478H5674H8451H5493H8085H6963H423H5413H7621H3789H8451H4872H5650H430H2398 12"Thus He has confirmed His words which He had spoken against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring on us great calamity; for under the whole heaven there has not been done [anything] like what was done to Jerusalem.H6965H1697H1696H8199H8199H935H1419H7451H8064H6213H6213H3389 13"As it is written in the law of Moses, all this calamity has come on us; yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our iniquity and giving attention to Thy truth.H3789H8451H4872H7451H935H2470H6440H3068H430H7725H5771H7919H571 14"Therefore, the LORD has kept the calamity in store and brought it on us; for the LORD our God is righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.H3068H8245H7451H935H3068H430H6662H4639H6213H8085H6963 15"And now, O Lord our God, who hast brought Thy people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and hast made a name for Thyself, as it is this day— we have sinned, we have been wicked.H136H430H3318H5971H3318H776H4714H2389H3027H6213H8034H3117H2398H7561 16"O Lord, in accordance with all Thy righteous acts, let now Thine anger and Thy wrath turn away from Thy city Jerusalem, Thy holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Thy people [have become] a reproach to all those around us.H136H6666H639H2534H7725H5892H3389H6944H2022H2399H5771H1H3389H5971H2781H5439 17"So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Thy servant and to his supplications, and for Thy sake, O Lord, let Thy face shine on Thy desolate sanctuary.H430H8085H8605H5650H8469H6440H215H4720H8076H136 18"O my God, incline Thine ear and hear! Open Thine eyes and see our desolations and the city which is called by Thy name; for we are not presenting our supplications before Thee on account of any merits of our own, but on account of Thy great compassion.H430H5186H241H8085H6491H5869H7200H8074H5892H7121H8034H5307H8469H6440H6666H7227H7356 19"O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Thine own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Thy city and Thy people are called by Thy name."H136H8085H136H5545H136H7181H6213H309H408H430H5892H5971H7121H8034

Gabriel Brings an Answer

20Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God,H1696H6419H3034H2403H2403H5971H3478H5307H8467H6440H3068H430H6944H2022H430 21while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision previously, came to me in [my] extreme weariness about the time of the evening offering.H1696H8605H376H1403H7200H2377H8462H3286H3288H5060H6256H6153H4503 22And he gave [me] instruction and talked with me, and said, "O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with understanding.H995H1696H559H1840H3318H7919H998 23"At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell [you,] for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.H8462H8469H1697H3318H935H5046H2532H995H1697H995H4758

Seventy Weeks and the Messiah

24"Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy [place.]H7657H7620H2852H5971H6944H5892H3607H6588H8552H2856H2403H3722H5771H935H5769H6664H2856H2377H5030H4886H6944H6944 25"So you are to know and discern [that] from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince [there will be] seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.H3045H7919H4161H1697H7725H1129H3389H4899H5057H7651H7620H8346H8147H7620H7339H1129H7725H2742H6695H6256 26"Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end [will come] with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.H310H8346H8147H7620H4899H3772H5971H5057H935H7843H5892H6944H7093H7858H7093H4421H8074H2782 27"And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations [will come] one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."H1396H1285H7227H259H7620H2677H7620H2077H4503H7673H3671H8251H8074H3617H2782H5413H8074
