Pagan Shrines to Be Destroyed

12These are the statutes and ordinances that you must diligently observe in the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given you to occupy all the days that you live on the earth.H2706H4941H8104H6213H776H3068H430H1H5414H3423H3117H2416H127 2You must demolish completely all the places where the nations whom you are about to dispossess served their gods, on the mountain heights, on the hills, and under every leafy tree.H6H6H4725H1471H834H3423H5647H430H7311H2022H1389H7488H6086 3Break down their altars, smash their pillars, burn their sacred poles with fire, and hew down the idols of their gods, and thus blot out their name from their places.H5422H4196H7665H4676H8313H842H784H1438H6456H430H6H8034H4725 4You shall not worship the LORD your God in such ways.H6213H3068H430 5But you shall seek the place that the LORD your God will choose out of all your tribes as his habitation to put his name there. You shall go there,H4725H3068H430H977H7626H7760H8034H7933H1875H935 6bringing there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and your donations, your votive gifts, your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and flocks.H935H5930H2077H4643H8641H3027H5088H5071H1062H1241H6629 7And you shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your households together, rejoicing in all the undertakings in which the LORD your God has blessed you.H398H6440H3068H430H8055H4916H3027H1004H3068H430H1288 8You shall not act as we are acting here today, all of us according to our own desires,H6213H6213H3117H376H3477H5869 9for you have not yet come into the rest and the possession that the LORD your God is giving you.H935H4496H5159H3068H430H5414 10When you cross over the Jordan and live in the land that the LORD your God is allotting to you, and when he gives you rest from your enemies all around so that you live in safety,H5674H3383H3427H776H3068H430H5157H5117H341H5439H3427H983 11then you shall bring everything that I command you to the place that the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for his name: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and your donations, and all your choice votive gifts that you vow to the LORD.H4725H3068H430H977H8034H7931H935H6680H5930H2077H4643H8641H3027H4005H5088H5087H3068 12And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you together with your sons and your daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levites who reside in your towns (since they have no allotment or inheritance with you).H8055H6440H3068H430H1121H1323H5650H519H3881H8179H3588H2506H5159

A Prescribed Place of Worship

13Take care that you do not offer your burnt offerings at any place you happen to see.H8104H5927H5930H4725H7200 14But only at the place that the LORD will choose in one of your tribes—there you shall offer your burnt offerings and there you shall do everything I command you.H4725H3068H977H259H7626H5927H5930H6213H6680 15Yet whenever you desire you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your towns, according to the blessing that the LORD your God has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as they would of gazelle or deer.H2076H398H1320H8179H5315H185H1293H3068H430H5414H2931H2889H398H6643H354 16The blood, however, you must not eat; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.H398H1818H8210H776H4325 17Nor may you eat within your towns the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your oil, the firstlings of your herds and your flocks, any of your votive gifts that you vow, your freewill offerings, or your donations;H3201H398H8179H4643H1715H8492H3323H1062H1241H6629H5088H5087H5071H8641H3027 18these you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God at the place that the LORD your God will choose, you together with your son and your daughter, your male and female slaves, and the Levites resident in your towns, rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God in all your undertakings.H398H6440H3068H430H4725H3068H430H977H1121H1323H5650H519H3881H8179H8055H6440H3068H430H4916H3027 19Take care that you do not neglect the Levite as long as you live in your land.H8104H5800H3881H3117H127 20When the LORD your God enlarges your territory, as he has promised you, and you say, "I am going to eat some meat," because you wish to eat meat, you may eat meat whenever you have the desire.H3068H430H7337H1366H1696H559H398H1320H5315H183H398H1320H398H1320H5315H185 21If the place where the LORD your God will choose to put his name is too far from you, and you slaughter as I have commanded you any of your herd or flock that the LORD has given you, then you may eat within your towns whenever you desire.H4725H3068H430H977H7760H8034H7368H2076H1241H6629H3068H5414H6680H398H8179H5315H185 22Indeed, just as gazelle or deer is eaten, so you may eat it; the unclean and the clean alike may eat it.H6643H354H398H398H2931H2889H398H3162 23Only be sure that you do not eat the blood; for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the meat.H2388H398H1818H1818H5315H398H5315H1320 24Do not eat it; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.H398H8210H776H4325 25Do not eat it, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, because you do what is right in the sight of the LORD.H398H3190H1121H310H6213H3477H5869H3068 26But the sacred donations that are due from you, and your votive gifts, you shall bring to the place that the LORD will choose.H6944H5088H5375H935H4725H3068H977 27You shall present your burnt offerings, both the meat and the blood, on the altar of the LORD your God; the blood of your other sacrifices shall be poured out beside the altar of the LORD your God, but the meat you may eat.H6213H5930H1320H1818H4196H3068H430H1818H2077H8210H4196H3068H430H398H1320 28Be careful to obey all these words that I command you today, so that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, because you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the LORD your God.H8104H8085H1697H6680H3190H1121H310H5704H5769H6213H2896H3477H5869H3068H430

Warning against Idolatry

29When the LORD your God has cut off before you the nations whom you are about to enter to dispossess them, when you have dispossessed them and live in their land,H3068H430H3772H1471H6440H935H3423H3423H3427H776 30take care that you are not snared into imitating them, after they have been destroyed before you: do not inquire concerning their gods, saying, "How did these nations worship their gods? I also want to do the same."H8104H5367H310H310H8045H6440H1875H430H559H1471H5647H430H6213H1571 31You must not do the same for the LORD your God, because every abhorrent thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods. They would even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.H6213H3068H430H8441H3068H8130H6213H430H1121H1323H8313H784H430 32You must diligently observe everything that I command you; do not add to it or take anything from it.H1697H6680H8104H6213H3254H1639
