Deuteronomy 14
New International Version (1984) Help
14You are the children of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead,H1121H3068H430H1413H7760H7144H5869H4191
2for you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.H6918H5971H3068H430H3068H977H5459H5971H5971H6440H127
3Do not eat any detestable thing.H398H8441
4These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,H929H398H7794H7716H3775H5795
5the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep.H354H6643H3180H689H1788H8377H2169
6You may eat any animal that has a split hoof divided in two and that chews the cud.H929H6536H6541H8157H8156H8147H6541H5927H1625H929H398
7However, of those that chew the cud or that have a split hoof completely divided you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the coney. Although they chew the cud, they do not have a split hoof; they are ceremonially unclean for you.H398H5927H1625H6536H8156H6541H1581H768H8227H5927H1625H6536H6541H2931
8The pig is also unclean; although it has a split hoof, it does not chew the cud. You are not to eat their meat or touch their carcasses.H2386H6536H6541H1625H2931H398H1320H5060H5038
9Of all the creatures living in the water, you may eat any that has fins and scales.H398H4325H5579H7193H398
10But anything that does not have fins and scales you may not eat; for you it is unclean.H5579H7193H398H2931
11You may eat any clean bird.H2889H6833H398
12But these you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,H398H5404H6538H5822
13the red kite, the black kite, any kind of falcon,H7201H344H1772H4327
14any kind of raven,H6158H4327
15the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk,H1323H3284H8464H7828H5322H4327
16the little owl, the great owl, the white owl,H3563H3244H8580
17the desert owl, the osprey, the cormorant,H6893H7360H7994
18the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.H2624H601H4327H1744H5847
19All flying insects that swarm are unclean to you; do not eat them.H8318H5775H2931H398
20But any winged creature that is clean you may eat.H2889H5775H398
21Do not eat anything you find already dead. You may give it to an alien living in any of your towns, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. But you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk.H398H5038H5414H1616H8179H398H4376H5237H6918H5971H3068H430H1310H1423H517H2461
22Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.H6237H6237H8393H2233H7704H3318H8141H8141
23Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always.H398H6440H3068H430H4725H977H7931H8034H4643H1715H8492H3323H1062H1241H6629H3925H3372H3068H430H3117
24But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away),H1870H7235H3588H3201H5375H4725H7368H3068H430H977H7760H8034H3068H430H1288
25then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose.H5414H3701H6696H3701H3027H1980H4725H3068H430H977
26Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice.H5414H3701H5315H183H1241H6629H3196H7941H5315H7592H398H6440H3068H430H8055H1004
27And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.H3881H8179H5800H2506H5159
28At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year's produce and store it in your towns,H7097H7969H8141H3318H4643H8393H8141H3240H8179
29so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.H3881H2506H5159H1616H3490H490H8179H935H398H7646H3068H430H1288H4639H3027H6213
