Moses’ Last Counsel

31So Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.H4872H3212H1696H1697H3478 2And he said to them, "I am a hundred and twenty years old today; I am no longer able to come and go, and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross this Jordan.'H559H3967H6242H8141H1121H3117H3201H3318H935H3068H559H5674H3383 3"It is the LORD your God who will cross ahead of you; He will destroy these nations before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua is the one who will cross ahead of you, just as the LORD has spoken.H3068H430H5674H6440H8045H1471H6440H3423H3091H5674H6440H3068H1696 4"And the LORD will do to them just as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when He destroyed them.H3068H6213H6213H5511H5747H4428H567H776H8045 5"And the LORD will deliver them up before you, and you shall do to them according to all the commandments which I have commanded you.H3068H5414H6440H6213H4687H6680 6"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you."H2388H553H3372H6206H6440H3068H430H1980H7503H5800 7Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.H4872H7121H3091H559H5869H3478H2388H553H935H5971H776H3068H7650H1H5414H5157 8"And the LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or be dismayed."H3068H1980H6440H7503H5800H3372H2865 9So Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.H4872H3789H8451H5414H3548H1121H3878H5375H727H1285H3068H2205H3478 10Then Moses commanded them, saying, "At the end of [every] seven years, at the time of the year of remission of debts, at the Feast of Booths,H4872H6680H559H7093H7651H8141H4150H8141H8059H2282H5521 11when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place which He will choose, you shall read this law in front of all Israel in their hearing.H3478H935H7200H6440H3068H430H4725H977H7121H8451H3478H241 12"Assemble the people, the men and the women and children and the alien who is in your town, in order that they may hear and learn and fear the LORD your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this law.H6950H5971H6950H582H802H2945H1616H8179H8085H3925H3372H3068H430H8104H6213H1697H8451 13"And their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live on the land which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess."H1121H3045H8085H3925H3372H3068H430H3117H2416H127H5674H3383H3423

Israel Will Fall Away

14Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, the time for you to die is near; call Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, that I may commission him." So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.H3068H559H4872H3117H7126H4191H7121H3091H3320H168H4150H6680H4872H3091H3212H3320H168H4150 15And the LORD appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood at the doorway of the tent.H3068H7200H168H5982H6051H5982H6051H5975H6607H168 16And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the harlot with the strange gods of the land, into the midst of which they are going, and will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.H3068H559H4872H7901H1H5971H6965H2181H310H430H5236H776H935H7130H5800H6565H1285H3772 17"Then My anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide My face from them, and they shall be consumed, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, 'Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have come upon us?'H639H2734H3117H5800H5641H6440H398H7227H7451H6869H4672H559H3117H7451H4672H430H7130 18"But I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they will do, for they will turn to other gods.H5641H5641H6440H3117H7451H6213H3588H6437H312H430 19"Now therefore, write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the sons of Israel; put it on their lips, in order that this song may be a witness for Me against the sons of Israel.H3789H7892H3925H1121H3478H7760H6310H7892H5707H1121H3478 20"For when I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and are satisfied and become prosperous, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and spurn Me and break My covenant.H935H127H7650H1H2100H2461H1706H398H7646H1878H6437H312H430H5647H5006H6565H1285 21"Then it shall come about, when many evils and troubles have come upon them, that this song will testify before them as a witness (for it shall not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants); for I know their intent which they are developing today, before I have brought them into the land which I swore."H7227H7451H6869H4672H7892H6030H6440H5707H7911H6310H2233H3045H3336H6213H3117H935H776H7650 22So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the sons of Israel.H4872H3789H7892H3117H3925H1121H3478

Joshua Is Commissioned

23Then He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore to them, and I will be with you."H3091H1121H5126H6680H559H2388H553H935H1121H3478H776H7650 24And it came about, when Moses finished writing the words of this law in a book until they were complete,H4872H3615H3789H1697H8451H5612H8552 25that Moses commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,H4872H6680H3881H5375H727H1285H3068H559 26"Take this book of the law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may remain there as a witness against you.H3947H5612H8451H7760H6654H727H1285H3068H430H5707 27"For I know your rebellion and your stubbornness; behold, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against the LORD; how much more, then, after my death?H3045H4805H7186H6203H2416H3117H4784H3068H310H4194 28"Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to witness against them.H6950H2205H7626H7860H1696H1697H241H5749H8064H776H5749 29"For I know that after my death you will act corruptly and turn from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days, for you will do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger with the work of your hands."H3045H310H4194H7843H7843H5493H1870H6680H7451H7122H319H3117H6213H7451H5869H3068H3707H4639H3027 30Then Moses spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were complete:H4872H1696H241H6951H3478H1697H7892H8552
