The Passover is Instituted

12The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,H3068H559H4872H175H776H4714H559
2"This month will mark the beginning of months for you. It will be the first month of the year for you.H2320H7218H2320H7223H2320H8141
3Tell the entire congregation of Israel, 'On the tenth of this month they're each to take a lamb for themselves, according to their ancestors' households, one lamb for each household.H1696H5712H3478H559H6218H2320H3947H376H7716H1004H1H7716H1004
4If a household is too small for a lamb, then it and its closest neighbor are to obtain one based on the number of individuals - dividing the lamb based on what each person can eat.H1004H1961H4591H7716H7934H7138H1004H3947H4373H5315H376H6310H400H3699H7716
5Your lamb is to be a year old male without blemish. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.H7716H8549H2145H1121H8141H3947H3532H5795
6It is to remain under your care until the fourteenth day of this month, and then the entire assembly of the congregation of Israel is to slaughter it at twilight.H4931H702H6240H3117H2320H3605H6951H5712H3478H7819H996H6153
7They're to take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat the lamb.H3947H1818H5414H8147H4201H4947H1004H398
8That very night they're to eat the meat, roasted over the fire, with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.H398H1320H3915H6748H784H4682H4844H398
9Don't eat any of it raw or boiled in water. Instead, roast it over the fire, with its head, legs, and internal organs.H398H4995H1310H1311H4325H6748H784H7218H3767H7130
10Don't leave any of it until morning, and whatever does remain of it until morning you are to burn in the fire.5H3498H1242H3498H1242H8313H784
11"'This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You are to eat it hurriedly - it's the Lord's Passover.H3602H398H4975H2296H5275H7272H4731H3027H398H2649H3068H6453
12I'll pass through the land of Egypt that night and strike every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both people and animals. I'll execute judgments on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.H5674H776H4714H3915H5221H1060H776H4714H120H929H430H4714H6213H8201H3068
13The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are. I'll see the blood and pass over you. There will be no plague to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.H1818H226H1004H7200H1818H6452H5063H4889H5221H776H4714
14"'This day is to be a memorial for you, and you are to celebrate it as a festival to the Lord. You are to celebrate it as a perpetual ordinance from generation to generation.H3117H2146H2287H2282H3068H1755H2287H2708H5769
15You are to eat unleavened bread for seven days. On the first day be sure to remove all the leaven from your houses, because any person who eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh will be cut off from Israel.H7651H3117H398H4682H389H7223H3117H7673H7603H1004H398H2557H7223H3117H7637H3117H5315H3772H3478
16Also, on the first day you're to hold a holy assembly, and on the seventh day you're to hold a holy assembly. No work is to be done during those days, except for preparing what is to be eaten by each person.H7223H3117H6944H4744H7637H3117H6944H4744H4399H6213H389H5315H398H6213
17"'You are to observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread, since on this very day I brought your tribal divisions from the land of Egypt. You are to observe this day from generation to generation as a perpetual ordinance.H8104H4682H6106H3117H3318H6635H776H4714H8104H3117H1755H2708H5769
18In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day of the month until the evening of the twenty-first day of the month, you are to eat unleavened bread.H7223H6240H702H3117H2320H6153H398H4682H259H6242H3117H2320H6153
19For seven days leaven is not to be found in your houses. Indeed, any person who eats anything leavened, is to be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether an alien or a native of the land.H7651H3117H7603H4672H1004H398H2556H5315H3772H5712H3478H1616H249H776
20You are not to eat what is leavened. You are to eat unleavened bread in all your settlements.'"19H398H2556H4186H398H4682
21Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Choose sheep for your families, and slaughter the Passover lamb.H4872H7121H2205H3478H559H4900H3947H6629H4940H7819H6453
22Take a bundle of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and apply some of the blood in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts. None of you is to go out of the doorway of his house until morning,H3947H92H231H2881H1818H5592H5060H4947H8147H4201H1818H5592H376H3318H6607H1004H1242
23because the Lord will pass through to strike down the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the doorway, and won't allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you down.H3068H5674H5062H4714H7200H1818H4947H8147H4201H3068H6452H6607H5414H7843H935H1004H5062
24You are to observe this event as a perpetual ordinance for you and your children forever.H8104H1697H2706H1121H5704H5769
25When you enter the land that the Lord will give you, just as he promised, you are to observe this ritual.H935H776H3068H5414H1696H8104H5656
26And when your children say to you, 'What does this ritual mean?'H1121H559H5656
27you are to say, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when he struck down the Egyptians but spared our houses.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.H559H2077H3068H6453H6452H1004H1121H3478H4714H5062H4714H5337H1004H5971H6915H7812
28The Israelites did this. Moses and Aaron did just what the Lord had commanded.21H1121H3478H3212H6213H3068H6680H4872H175H6213

The Death of the Firstborn in Egypt

29And so at midnight the Lord struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.H2677H3915H3068H5221H1060H776H4714H1060H6547H3427H3678H1060H7628H1004H953H1060H929
30Pharaoh got up during the night, he, all his officials, and all the Egyptians, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead in it.H6547H6965H3915H5650H4714H1419H6818H4714H1004H4191
31Then he summoned Moses and Aaron during the night and told them: "Get up, go out from among my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, serve the Lord as you have said.H7121H4872H175H3915H559H6965H3318H8432H5971H1121H3478H3212H5647H3068H1696
32Take both your sheep and your cattle, just as you demanded and go! And bless me too!"31H3947H6629H1241H1696H3212H1288
33The Egyptian officials urged the people to send them out of the land quickly, because they were saying, "We'll all be dead!"H4714H2388H5971H7971H776H4116H559H4191
34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls wrapped up in their cloaks on their shoulders.H5971H5375H1217H2556H4863H6887H8071H7926
35Meanwhile, the Israelites had done as Moses said; they had asked the Egyptians for objects of silver and objects of gold, and for clothes.H1121H3478H6213H1697H4872H7592H4714H3627H3701H3627H2091H8071
36The Lord had given the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, so that they gave them what they requested; and so they plundered the Egyptians.34H3068H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H7592H5337H4714

The Exodus Begins

37About 600,000 Israelite men traveled from Rameses to Succoth on foot, not counting children.H1121H3478H5265H7486H5523H8337H3967H505H7273H1397H905H2945
38A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with a very large number of livestock, including sheep and cattle.H6154H7227H5927H6629H1241H3966H3515H4735
39They baked the dough that they brought out of Egypt into thin cakes of unleavened bread. It had not been leavened because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.H644H4682H5692H1217H3318H4714H2556H1644H4714H3201H4102H6213H6720
40Now the time that the Israelites lived in Egypt was 430 years.H4186H1121H3478H3427H4714H702H3967H8141H7970H8141
41At the end of 430 years, to the very day, all the tribal divisions of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.H7093H702H3967H8141H7970H8141H6106H3117H6635H3068H3318H776H4714
42That was for the Lord a night of vigil to bring them out of the land of Egypt. This same night belongs to the Lord, and is to be a vigil for all the Israelites from generation to generation.H3915H8107H3068H3318H776H4714H3915H3068H8107H1121H3478H1755

Instructions for the Passover

43The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover: No foreigner is to eat it,H3068H559H4872H175H2708H6453H1121H5236H398
44though any slave purchased with money may eat it after you have circumcised him.H376H5650H4736H3701H4135H398
45But no temporary resident or a hired servant is to eat it.H8453H7916H398
46It is to be eaten in one house, and you are not to take any of the meat outside the house, nor shall you break any of its bones.H259H1004H398H3318H1320H2351H1004H7665H6106
47The whole congregation of Israel shall observe it.H5712H3478H6213
48If an alien who resides with you wants to observe the Passover to the Lord, every male in his household must be circumcised, and then he may come near to observe it. He shall be like a native of the land, but no uncircumcised person shall eat it.H1616H1481H6213H6453H3068H2145H4135H7126H6213H249H776H6189H398
49A single law exists for the native and the alien who resides among you."H259H8451H249H1616H1481H8432
50All the Israelites did this. They did exactly as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron.H6213H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872H175H6213
51And on that very day, the Lord brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their tribal divisions.H6106H3117H3068H3318H1121H3478H776H4714H6635
