The Passover Lamb

12Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,H3068H559H4872H175H776H4714H559 2"This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.H2320H7218H2320H7223H2320H8141 3"Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household.H1696H5712H3478H559H6218H2320H3947H376H7716H1004H1H7716H1004 4'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons [in them;] according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.H1004H1961H4591H7716H7934H7138H1004H3947H4373H5315H376H6310H400H3699H7716 5'Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.H7716H8549H2145H1121H8141H3947H3532H5795 6'And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.H4931H702H6240H3117H2320H3605H6951H5712H3478H7819H996H6153 7'Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.H3947H1818H5414H8147H4201H4947H1004H398 8'And they shall eat the flesh that [same] night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.H398H1320H3915H6748H784H4682H4844H398 9'Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, [both] its head and its legs along with its entrails.H398H4995H1310H1311H4325H6748H784H7218H3767H7130 10'And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.H3498H1242H3498H1242H8313H784 11'Now you shall eat it in this manner: [with] your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste— it is the Lord's Passover.H3602H398H4975H2296H5275H7272H4731H3027H398H2649H3068H6453 12'For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments— I am the LORD.H5674H776H4714H3915H5221H1060H776H4714H120H929H430H4714H6213H8201H3068 13'And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy [you] when I strike the land of Egypt.H1818H226H1004H7200H1818H6452H5063H4889H5221H776H4714

Feast of Unleavened Bread

14'Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it [as] a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it [as] a permanent ordinance.H3117H2146H2287H2282H3068H1755H2287H2708H5769 15'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.H7651H3117H398H4682H389H7223H3117H7673H7603H1004H398H2557H7223H3117H7637H3117H5315H3772H3478 16'And on the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and [another] holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you.H7223H3117H6944H4744H7637H3117H6944H4744H4399H6213H389H5315H398H6213 17'You shall also observe the [Feast of] Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance.H8104H4682H6106H3117H3318H6635H776H4714H8104H3117H1755H2708H5769 18'In the first [month,] on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.H7223H6240H702H3117H2320H6153H398H4682H259H6242H3117H2320H6153 19'Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether [he is] an alien or a native of the land.H7651H3117H7603H4672H1004H398H2556H5315H3772H5712H3478H1616H249H776 20'You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.' "H398H2556H4186H398H4682 21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said to them, "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover [lamb.]H4872H7121H2205H3478H559H4900H3947H6629H4940H7819H6453 22"And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.H3947H92H231H2881H1818H5592H5060H4947H8147H4201H1818H5592H376H3318H6607H1004H1242

A Memorial of Redemption

23"For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite [you.]H3068H5674H5062H4714H7200H1818H4947H8147H4201H3068H6452H6607H5414H7843H935H1004H5062 24"And you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.H8104H1697H2706H1121H5704H5769 25"And it will come about when you enter the land which the LORD will give you, as He has promised, that you shall observe this rite.H935H776H3068H5414H1696H8104H5656 26"And it will come about when your children will say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?'H1121H559H5656 27that you shall say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.' "And the people bowed low and worshiped.H559H2077H3068H6453H6452H1004H1121H3478H4714H5062H4714H5337H1004H5971H6915H7812 28Then the sons of Israel went and did [so;] just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.H1121H3478H3212H6213H3068H6680H4872H175H6213 29Now it came about at midnight that the LORD struck all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first-born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first-born of cattle.H2677H3915H3068H5221H1060H776H4714H1060H6547H3427H3678H1060H7628H1004H953H1060H929 30And Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead.H6547H6965H3915H5650H4714H1419H6818H4714H1004H4191 31Then he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, "Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the LORD, as you have said.H7121H4872H175H3915H559H6965H3318H8432H5971H1121H3478H3212H5647H3068H1696 32"Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also."H3947H6629H1241H1696H3212H1288

Exodus of Israel

33And the Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, "We shall all be dead."H4714H2388H5971H7971H776H4116H559H4191 34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, [with] their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.H5971H5375H1217H2556H4863H6887H8071H7926 35Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing;H1121H3478H6213H1697H4872H7592H4714H3627H3701H3627H2091H8071 36and the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.H3068H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H7592H5337H4714 37Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children.H1121H3478H5265H7486H5523H8337H3967H505H7273H1397H905H2945 38And a mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.H6154H7227H5927H6629H1241H3966H3515H4735 39And they baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.H644H4682H5692H1217H3318H4714H2556H1644H4714H3201H4102H6213H6720 40Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.H4186H1121H3478H3427H4714H702H3967H8141H7970H8141 41And it came about at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.H7093H702H3967H8141H7970H8141H6106H3117H6635H3068H3318H776H4714

Ordinance of the Passover

42It is a night to be observed for the LORD for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the LORD, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.H3915H8107H3068H3318H776H4714H3915H3068H8107H1121H3478H1755 43And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: no foreigner is to eat of it;H3068H559H4872H175H2708H6453H1121H5236H398 44but every man's slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it.H376H5650H4736H3701H4135H398 45"A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it.H8453H7916H398 46"It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it.H259H1004H398H3318H1320H2351H1004H7665H6106 47"All the congregation of Israel are to celebrate this.H5712H3478H6213 48"But if a stranger sojourns with you, and celebrates the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it.H1616H1481H6213H6453H3068H2145H4135H7126H6213H249H776H6189H398 49"The same law shall apply to the native as to the stranger who sojourns among you."H259H8451H249H1616H1481H8432 50Then all the sons of Israel did [so;] they did just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.H6213H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872H175H6213 51And it came about on that same day that the LORD brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.H6106H3117H3068H3318H1121H3478H776H4714H6635
