The Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread

12The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,H3068H559H4872H175H776H4714H559 2"This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year.H2320H7218H2320H7223H2320H8141 3Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household.H1696H5712H3478H559H6218H2320H3947H376H7716H1004H1H7716H1004 4If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.H1004H1961H4591H7716H7934H7138H1004H3947H4373H5315H376H6310H400H3699H7716 5The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats.H7716H8549H2145H1121H8141H3947H3532H5795 6Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.H4931H702H6240H3117H2320H3605H6951H5712H3478H7819H996H6153 7Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.H3947H1818H5414H8147H4201H4947H1004H398 8That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast.H398H1320H3915H6748H784H4682H4844H398 9Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire—head, legs and inner parts.H398H4995H1310H1311H4325H6748H784H7218H3767H7130 10Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it.H3498H1242H3498H1242H8313H784 11This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD'S Passover.H3602H398H4975H2296H5275H7272H4731H3027H398H2649H3068H6453 12"On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.H5674H776H4714H3915H5221H1060H776H4714H120H929H430H4714H6213H8201H3068 13The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.H1818H226H1004H7200H1818H6452H5063H4889H5221H776H4714 14"This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting ordinance.H3117H2146H2287H2282H3068H1755H2287H2708H5769 15For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel.H7651H3117H398H4682H389H7223H3117H7673H7603H1004H398H2557H7223H3117H7637H3117H5315H3772H3478 16On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat—that is all you may do.H7223H3117H6944H4744H7637H3117H6944H4744H4399H6213H389H5315H398H6213 17"Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.H8104H4682H6106H3117H3318H6635H776H4714H8104H3117H1755H2708H5769 18In the first month you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day.H7223H6240H702H3117H2320H6153H398H4682H259H6242H3117H2320H6153 19For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel, whether he is an alien or native-born.H7651H3117H7603H4672H1004H398H2556H5315H3772H5712H3478H1616H249H776 20Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened bread."H398H2556H4186H398H4682 21Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb.H4872H7121H2205H3478H559H4900H3947H6629H4940H7819H6453 22Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of you shall go out the door of his house until morning.H3947H92H231H2881H1818H5592H5060H4947H8147H4201H1818H5592H376H3318H6607H1004H1242 23When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.H3068H5674H5062H4714H7200H1818H4947H8147H4201H3068H6452H6607H5414H7843H935H1004H5062 24"Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants.H8104H1697H2706H1121H5704H5769 25When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony.H935H776H3068H5414H1696H8104H5656 26And when your children ask you, 'What does this ceremony mean to you?'H1121H559H5656 27then tell them, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.H559H2077H3068H6453H6452H1004H1121H3478H4714H5062H4714H5337H1004H5971H6915H7812 28The Israelites did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.H1121H3478H3212H6213H3068H6680H4872H175H6213 29At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.H2677H3915H3068H5221H1060H776H4714H1060H6547H3427H3678H1060H7628H1004H953H1060H929 30Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.H6547H6965H3915H5650H4714H1419H6818H4714H1004H4191

The Exodus

31During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested.H7121H4872H175H3915H559H6965H3318H8432H5971H1121H3478H3212H5647H3068H1696 32Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me."H3947H6629H1241H1696H3212H1288 33The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "For otherwise," they said, "we will all die!"H4714H2388H5971H7971H776H4116H559H4191 34So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing.H5971H5375H1217H2556H4863H6887H8071H7926 35The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.H1121H3478H6213H1697H4872H7592H4714H3627H3701H3627H2091H8071 36The LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.H3068H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H7592H5337H4714 37The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.H1121H3478H5265H7486H5523H8337H3967H505H7273H1397H905H2945 38Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.H6154H7227H5927H6629H1241H3966H3515H4735 39With the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked cakes of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.H644H4682H5692H1217H3318H4714H2556H1644H4714H3201H4102H6213H6720 40Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years.H4186H1121H3478H3427H4714H702H3967H8141H7970H8141 41At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD'S divisions left Egypt.H7093H702H3967H8141H7970H8141H6106H3117H6635H3068H3318H776H4714 42Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come.H3915H8107H3068H3318H776H4714H3915H3068H8107H1121H3478H1755

Passover Restrictions

43The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover: "No foreigner is to eat of it.H3068H559H4872H175H2708H6453H1121H5236H398 44Any slave you have bought may eat of it after you have circumcised him,H376H5650H4736H3701H4135H398 45but a temporary resident and a hired worker may not eat of it.H8453H7916H398 46"It must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones.H259H1004H398H3318H1320H2351H1004H7665H6106 47The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.H5712H3478H6213 48"An alien living among you who wants to celebrate the LORD'S Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat of it.H1616H1481H6213H6453H3068H2145H4135H7126H6213H249H776H6189H398 49The same law applies to the native-born and to the alien living among you."H259H8451H249H1616H1481H8432 50All the Israelites did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.H6213H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872H175H6213 51And on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.H6106H3117H3068H3318H1121H3478H776H4714H6635
