The Passover Instituted

12Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,H3068H559H4872H175H776H4714H559 2"This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.H2320H7218H2320H7223H2320H8141 3"Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: 'On the tenth day of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.H1696H5712H3478H559H6218H2320H3947H376H7716H1004H1H7716H1004 4'And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it according to the number of the persons; according to each man's need you shall make your count for the lamb.H1004H1961H4591H7716H7934H7138H1004H3947H4373H5315H376H6310H400H3699H7716 5'Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.H7716H8549H2145H1121H8141H3947H3532H5795 6'Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.H4931H702H6240H3117H2320H3605H6951H5712H3478H7819H996H6153 7'And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.H3947H1818H5414H8147H4201H4947H1004H398 8'Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.H398H1320H3915H6748H784H4682H4844H398 9'Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire—its head with its legs and its entrails.H398H4995H1310H1311H4325H6748H784H7218H3767H7130 10'You shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire.H3498H1242H3498H1242H8313H784 11'And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD'S Passover.H3602H398H4975H2296H5275H7272H4731H3027H398H2649H3068H6453 12'For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.H5674H776H4714H3915H5221H1060H776H4714H120H929H430H4714H6213H8201H3068 13'Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.H1818H226H1004H7200H1818H6452H5063H4889H5221H776H4714 14'So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.H3117H2146H2287H2282H3068H1755H2287H2708H5769 15'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.H7651H3117H398H4682H389H7223H3117H7673H7603H1004H398H2557H7223H3117H7637H3117H5315H3772H3478 16'On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by you.H7223H3117H6944H4744H7637H3117H6944H4744H4399H6213H389H5315H398H6213 17'So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance.H8104H4682H6106H3117H3318H6635H776H4714H8104H3117H1755H2708H5769 18'In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.H7223H6240H702H3117H2320H6153H398H4682H259H6242H3117H2320H6153 19'For seven days no leaven shall be found in your houses, since whoever eats what is leavened, that same person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or a native of the land.H7651H3117H7603H4672H1004H398H2556H5315H3772H5712H3478H1616H249H776 20'You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.'"H398H2556H4186H398H4682 21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb.H4872H7121H2205H3478H559H4900H3947H6629H4940H7819H6453 22"And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.H3947H92H231H2881H1818H5592H5060H4947H8147H4201H1818H5592H376H3318H6607H1004H1242 23"For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.H3068H5674H5062H4714H7200H1818H4947H8147H4201H3068H6452H6607H5414H7843H935H1004H5062 24"And you shall observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever.H8104H1697H2706H1121H5704H5769 25"It will come to pass when you come to the land which the LORD will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service.H935H776H3068H5414H1696H8104H5656 26"And it shall be, when your children say to you, 'What do you mean by this service?'H1121H559H5656 27"that you shall say, 'It is the Passover sacrifice of the LORD, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when He struck the Egyptians and delivered our households.'" So the people bowed their heads and worshiped.H559H2077H3068H6453H6452H1004H1121H3478H4714H5062H4714H5337H1004H5971H6915H7812 28Then the children of Israel went away and did so; just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.H1121H3478H3212H6213H3068H6680H4872H175H6213

The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn

29And it came to pass at midnight that the LORD struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.H2677H3915H3068H5221H1060H776H4714H1060H6547H3427H3678H1060H7628H1004H953H1060H929 30So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.H6547H6965H3915H5650H4714H1419H6818H4714H1004H4191

The Exodus

31Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, "Rise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the LORD as you have said.H7121H4872H175H3915H559H6965H3318H8432H5971H1121H3478H3212H5647H3068H1696 32"Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also."H3947H6629H1241H1696H3212H1288 33And the Egyptians urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste. For they said, "We shall all be dead."H4714H2388H5971H7971H776H4116H559H4191 34So the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their clothes on their shoulders.H5971H5375H1217H2556H4863H6887H8071H7926 35Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.H1121H3478H6213H1697H4872H7592H4714H3627H3701H3627H2091H8071 36And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.H3068H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H7592H5337H4714 37Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children.H1121H3478H5265H7486H5523H8337H3967H505H7273H1397H905H2945 38A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds—a great deal of livestock.H6154H7227H5927H6629H1241H3966H3515H4735 39And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.H644H4682H5692H1217H3318H4714H2556H1644H4714H3201H4102H6213H6720 40Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.H4186H1121H3478H3427H4714H702H3967H8141H7970H8141 41And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years—on that very same day—it came to pass that all the armies of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.H7093H702H3967H8141H7970H8141H6106H3117H6635H3068H3318H776H4714 42It is a night of solemn observance to the LORD for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of the LORD, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.H3915H8107H3068H3318H776H4714H3915H3068H8107H1121H3478H1755

Passover Regulations

43And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it.H3068H559H4872H175H2708H6453H1121H5236H398 44"But every man's servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it.H376H5650H4736H3701H4135H398 45"A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it.H8453H7916H398 46"In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.H259H1004H398H3318H1320H2351H1004H7665H6106 47"All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.H5712H3478H6213 48"And when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it.H1616H1481H6213H6453H3068H2145H4135H7126H6213H249H776H6189H398 49"One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you."H259H8451H249H1616H1481H8432 50Thus all the children of Israel did; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.H6213H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872H175H6213 51And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the LORD brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.H6106H3117H3068H3318H1121H3478H776H4714H6635
