Consecration of the Firstborn

13Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,H3068H1696H4872H559 2"Sanctify to Me every first-born, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me."H6942H1060H6363H7358H1121H3478H120H929 3And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day in which you went out from Egypt, from the house of slavery; for by a powerful hand the LORD brought you out from this place. And nothing leavened shall be eaten.H4872H559H5971H2142H2088H3117H3318H4714H1004H5650H2392H3027H3068H3318H2557H398 4"On this day in the month of Abib, you are about to go forth.H3117H3318H2320H24 5"And it shall be when the LORD brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall observe this rite in this month.H3068H935H776H3669H2850H567H2340H2983H7650H1H5414H776H2100H2461H1706H5647H5656H2320 6"For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD.H7651H3117H398H4682H7637H3117H2282H3068 7"Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and nothing leavened shall be seen among you, nor shall any leaven be seen among you in all your borders.H4682H398H7651H3117H2557H7200H7603H7200H1366 8"And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, 'It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.'H5046H1121H3117H559H5668H2088H3068H6213H3318H4714 9"And it shall serve as a sign to you on your hand, and as a reminder on your forehead, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth; for with a powerful hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.H226H3027H2146H5869H3068H8451H6310H2389H3027H3068H3318H4714 10"Therefore, you shall keep this ordinance at its appointed time from year to year.H8104H2708H4150H3117H3117 11"Now it shall come about when the LORD brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you,H3068H935H776H3669H7650H1H5414 12that you shall devote to the LORD the first offspring of every womb, and the first offspring of every beast that you own; the males belong to the LORD.H5674H3068H6363H7358H6363H7698H929H2145H3068 13"But every first offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem [it,] then you shall break its neck; and every first-born of man among your sons you shall redeem.H6363H2543H6299H7716H6299H6202H1060H120H1121H6299 14"And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ' What is this? 'then you shall say to him,' With a powerful hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery.H1121H7592H4279H559H559H2392H3027H3068H3318H4714H1004H5650 15'And it came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the LORD killed every first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the LORD the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every first-born of my sons I redeem.'H6547H7185H7971H3068H2026H1060H776H4714H1060H120H1060H929H2076H3068H6363H7358H2145H1060H1121H6299 16"So it shall serve as a sign on your hand, and as phylacteries on your forehead, for with a powerful hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt."H226H3027H2903H5869H2392H3027H3068H3318H4714

God Leads the People

17Now it came about when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, "Lest the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt."H6547H5971H7971H430H5148H1870H776H6430H3588H7138H430H559H5971H5162H7200H4421H7725H4714 18Hence God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea; and the sons of Israel went up in martial array from the land of Egypt.H430H5437H5971H5437H1870H4057H5488H3220H1121H3478H5927H2571H776H4714 19And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, "God shall surely take care of you; and you shall carry my bones from here with you."H4872H3947H6106H3130H7650H7650H1121H3478H559H430H6485H6485H5927H6106H5927 20Then they set out from Succoth and camped in Etham on the edge of the wilderness.H5265H5523H2583H864H7097H4057 21And the LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.H3068H1980H6440H3119H5982H6051H5148H1870H3915H5982H784H215H3212H3119H3915 22He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.H4185H5982H6051H3119H5982H784H3915H6440H5971
