The Festival of Unleavened Bread

3Moses said to the people, "Remember this day on which you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, because the LORD brought you out from there by strength of hand; no leavened bread shall be eaten.H4872H559H5971H2142H2088H3117H3318H4714H1004H5650H2392H3027H3068H3318H2557H398 4Today, in the month of Abib, you are going out.H3117H3318H2320H24 5When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this observance in this month.H3068H935H776H3669H2850H567H2340H2983H7650H1H5414H776H2100H2461H1706H5647H5656H2320 6Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a festival to the LORD.H7651H3117H398H4682H7637H3117H2282H3068 7Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen in your possession, and no leaven shall be seen among you in all your territory.H4682H398H7651H3117H2557H7200H7603H7200H1366 8You shall tell your child on that day, 'It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.'H5046H1121H3117H559H5668H2088H3068H6213H3318H4714 9It shall serve for you as a sign on your hand and as a reminder on your forehead, so that the teaching of the LORD may be on your lips; for with a strong hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.H226H3027H2146H5869H3068H8451H6310H2389H3027H3068H3318H4714 10You shall keep this ordinance at its proper time from year to year.H8104H2708H4150H3117H3117

The Consecration of the Firstborn

11"When the LORD has brought you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your ancestors, and has given it to you,H3068H935H776H3669H7650H1H5414 12you shall set apart to the LORD all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your livestock that are males shall be the LORD's.H5674H3068H6363H7358H6363H7698H929H2145H3068 13But every firstborn donkey you shall redeem with a sheep; if you do not redeem it, you must break its neck. Every firstborn male among your children you shall redeem.H6363H2543H6299H7716H6299H6202H1060H120H1121H6299 14When in the future your child asks you, 'What does this mean?' you shall answer, 'By strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery.H1121H7592H4279H559H559H2392H3027H3068H3318H4714H1004H5650 15When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from human firstborn to the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD every male that first opens the womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.'H6547H7185H7971H3068H2026H1060H776H4714H1060H120H1060H929H2076H3068H6363H7358H2145H1060H1121H6299 16It shall serve as a sign on your hand and as an emblem on your forehead that by strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt."H226H3027H2903H5869H2392H3027H3068H3318H4714

The Pillars of Cloud and Fire

17When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God thought, "If the people face war, they may change their minds and return to Egypt."H6547H5971H7971H430H5148H1870H776H6430H3588H7138H430H559H5971H5162H7200H4421H7725H4714 18So God led the people by the roundabout way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of the land of Egypt prepared for battle.H430H5437H5971H5437H1870H4057H5488H3220H1121H3478H5927H2571H776H4714 19And Moses took with him the bones of Joseph who had required a solemn oath of the Israelites, saying, "God will surely take notice of you, and then you must carry my bones with you from here."H4872H3947H6106H3130H7650H7650H1121H3478H559H430H6485H6485H5927H6106H5927 20They set out from Succoth, and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.H5265H5523H2583H864H7097H4057 21The LORD went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night.H3068H1980H6440H3119H5982H6051H5148H1870H3915H5982H784H215H3212H3119H3915 22Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.H4185H5982H6051H3119H5982H784H3915H6440H5971
