Exodus 14
Holman Christian Standard Bible Help
14Then the LORD spoke to Moses:H3068H1696H4872H559 2"Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you must camp in front of Baal-zephon, facing it by the sea.H1696H1121H3478H7725H2583H6440H6367H4024H3220H6440H1189H5226H2583H3220 3Pharaoh will say of the Israelites: They are wandering around the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.H6547H559H1121H3478H943H776H4057H5462 4I will harden Pharaoh's heart so that he will pursue them. Then I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD." So the Israelites did this.H2388H6547H3820H7291H310H3513H6547H2428H4714H3045H3068H6213

The Egyptian Pursuit

5When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about the people and said: "What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us."H5046H4428H4714H5971H1272H3824H6547H5650H2015H5971H559H6213H3478H7971H5647 6So he got his chariot ready and took his troops with him;H631H7393H3947H5971 7he took 600 of the best chariots and all the rest of the chariots of Egypt, with officers in each one.H3947H8337H3967H977H7393H7393H4714H7991 8The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the Israelites, who were going out triumphantly.H3068H2388H3820H6547H4428H4714H7291H310H1121H3478H1121H3478H3318H7311H3027 9The Egyptians— all Pharaoh's horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his army— chased after them and caught up with them as they camped by the sea beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.H4714H7291H310H5483H7393H6547H6571H2428H5381H2583H3220H6367H6440H1189 10As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians coming after them. Then the Israelites were terrified and cried out to the LORD for help.H6547H7126H1121H3478H5375H5869H4714H5265H310H3966H3372H1121H3478H6817H3068 11They said to Moses: "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you took us to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?H559H4872H6913H4714H3947H4191H4057H2063H6213H3318H4714 12Isn't this what we told you in Egypt: Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness."H1697H1696H4714H559H2308H5647H4714H2896H5647H4714H4191H4057 13But Moses said to the people, "Don't be afraid. Stand firm and see the LORD's salvation He will provide for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again.H4872H559H5971H3372H3320H7200H3444H3068H6213H3117H4714H7200H3117H7200H3254H5704H5769 14The LORD will fight for you; you must be quiet."H3068H3898H2790

Escape through the Red Sea

15The LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to break camp.H3068H559H4872H6817H1696H1121H3478H5265 16As for you, lift up your staff, stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.H7311H4294H5186H3027H3220H1234H1121H3478H935H3004H8432H3220 17I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them, and I will receive glory by means of Pharaoh, all his army, and his chariots and horsemen.H2388H3820H4714H935H310H3513H6547H2428H7393H6571 18The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I receive glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen."H4714H3045H3068H3513H6547H7393H6571 19Then the Angel of God, who was going in front of the Israelite forces, moved and went behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and stood behind them.H4397H430H1980H6440H4264H3478H5265H3212H310H5982H6051H5265H6440H5975H310 20It came between the Egyptian and Israelite forces. The cloud was there [in] the darkness, yet it lit up the night. So neither group came near the other all night long.H935H4264H4714H4264H3478H6051H2822H215H3915H7126H2088H3915 21Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The LORD drove the sea [back] with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land. So the waters were divided,H4872H5186H3027H3220H3068H3220H3212H5794H6921H7307H3915H7760H3220H2724H4325H1234 22and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters [like] a wall to them on their right and their left.H1121H3478H935H8432H3220H3004H4325H2346H3225H8040 23The Egyptians set out in pursuit— all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen— and went into the sea after them.H4714H7291H935H310H8432H3220H6547H5483H7393H6571 24Then during the morning watch, the LORD looked down on the Egyptian forces from the pillar of fire and cloud, and threw them into confusion.H1242H821H3068H8259H4264H4714H5982H784H6051H2000H4264H4714 25He caused their chariot wheels to swerve and made them drive with difficulty. "Let's get away from Israel," the Egyptians said, "because the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!"H5493H4818H212H5090H3517H4714H559H5127H6440H3478H3068H3898H4714 26Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back on the Egyptians, on their chariots and horsemen."H3068H559H4872H5186H3027H3220H4325H7725H4714H7393H6571 27So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea returned to its normal depth. While the Egyptians were trying to escape from it, the LORD overthrew them in the sea.H4872H5186H3027H3220H3220H7725H386H1242H6437H4714H5127H7125H3068H5287H4714H8432H3220 28The waters came back and covered the chariots and horsemen, the entire army of Pharaoh, that had gone after them into the sea. None of them survived.H4325H7725H3680H7393H6571H2428H6547H935H3220H310H7604H5704H259 29But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with the waters [like] a wall to them on their right and their left.H1121H3478H1980H3004H8432H3220H4325H2346H3225H8040 30That day the LORD saved Israel from the power of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.H3068H3467H3478H3117H3027H4714H3478H7200H4714H4191H3220H8193 31When Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.H3478H7200H1419H3027H3068H6213H4714H5971H3372H3068H539H3068H5650H4872
