Moses and the Burning Bush

3Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.H4872H1961H7462H6629H3503H2859H3548H4080H5090H6629H310H4057H935H2022H430H2722 2There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.H4397H3068H7200H3827H784H8432H5572H7200H5572H1197H784H5572H398 3So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up."H4872H559H5493H7200H1419H4758H4069H5572H1197 4When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."H3068H7200H5493H7200H430H7121H8432H5572H559H4872H4872H559 5"Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."H559H7126H1988H5394H5275H7272H4725H834H5975H6944H127 6Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.H559H430H1H430H85H430H3327H430H3290H4872H5641H6440H3372H5027H430 7The LORD said, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.H3068H559H7200H7200H6040H5971H4714H8085H6818H6440H5065H3045H4341 8So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.H3381H5337H3027H4714H5927H776H2896H776H7342H776H2100H2461H1706H4725H3669H2850H567H6522H2340H2983 9And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.H6818H1121H3478H935H7200H3906H4714H3905 10So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt."H3212H7971H6547H3318H5971H1121H3478H4714 11But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"H4872H559H430H3212H6547H3318H1121H3478H4714 12And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain."H559H226H3588H7971H3318H5971H4714H5647H430H2022 13Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"H4872H559H430H935H1121H3478H559H430H1H7971H559H8034H559 14God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"H430H559H4872H1961H1961H559H559H1121H3478H7971 15God also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.H430H559H5750H4872H559H1121H3478H3068H430H1H430H85H430H3327H430H3290H7971H8034H5769H2143H1755H1755 16"Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.H3212H622H2205H3478H622H559H3068H430H1H430H85H3327H3290H7200H559H6485H6485H6213H4714 17And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.'H559H5927H6040H4714H776H3669H2850H567H6522H2340H2983H776H2100H2461H1706 18"The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God.'H8085H6963H935H2205H3478H4428H4714H559H3068H430H5680H7136H3212H7969H3117H1870H4057H2076H3068H430 19But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him.H3045H4428H4714H5414H1980H2389H3027 20So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.H7971H3027H5221H4714H6381H6213H7130H310H7971 21"And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed.H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H3212H3212H7387 22Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians."H802H7592H7934H1481H1004H3627H3701H3627H2091H8071H7760H1121H1323H5337H4714
