Ezekiel 40
New International Version (1984) Help
40In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the fall of the city--on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me and he took me there.H2568H6242H8141H1546H7218H8141H6218H2320H702H6240H8141H310H5892H5221H6106H3117H3027H3068H935
2In visions of God he took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, on whose south side were some buildings that looked like a city.H4759H430H935H776H3478H5117H3966H1364H2022H4011H5892H5045
3He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze; he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand.H935H376H4758H4758H5178H6616H6593H3027H4060H7070H5975H8179
4The man said to me, "Son of man, look with your eyes and hear with your ears and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Tell the house of Israel everything you see."H376H1696H1121H120H7200H5869H8085H241H7760H3820H7200H4616H7200H935H5046H7200H1004H3478
5I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area. The length of the measuring rod in the man's hand was six long cubits, each of which was a cubit and a handbreadth. He measured the wall; it was one measuring rod thick and one rod high.H2346H2351H1004H5439H376H3027H4060H7070H8337H520H520H2948H4058H7341H1146H259H7070H6967H259H7070
6Then he went to the gate facing east. He climbed its steps and measured the threshold of the gate; it was one rod deep.H935H8179H6440H1870H6921H5927H4609H4058H5592H8179H259H7070H7341H259H5592H259H7070H7341
7The alcoves for the guards were one rod long and one rod wide, and the projecting walls between the alcoves were five cubits thick. And the threshold of the gate next to the portico facing the temple was one rod deep.H8372H259H7070H753H259H7070H7341H8372H2568H520H5592H8179H681H197H8179H1004H259H7070
8Then he measured the portico of the gateway;H4058H197H8179H1004H259H7070
9it was eight cubits deep and its jambs were two cubits thick. The portico of the gateway faced the temple.H4058H197H8179H8083H520H352H8147H520H197H8179H1004
10Inside the east gate were three alcoves on each side; the three had the same measurements, and the faces of the projecting walls on each side had the same measurements.H8372H8179H1870H6921H7969H6311H7969H6311H7969H259H4060H352H259H4060
11Then he measured the width of the entrance to the gateway; it was ten cubits and its length was thirteen cubits.H4058H7341H6607H8179H6235H520H753H8179H7969H6240H520
12In front of each alcove was a wall one cubit high, and the alcoves were six cubits square.H1366H6440H8372H259H520H1366H520H8372H8337H520H8337H520
13Then he measured the gateway from the top of the rear wall of one alcove to the top of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits from one parapet opening to the opposite one.H4058H8179H1406H8372H1406H7341H2568H6242H520H6607H6607
14He measured along the faces of the projecting walls all around the inside of the gateway--sixty cubits. The measurement was up to the portico facing the courtyard.H6213H352H8346H520H352H2691H5439H8179
15The distance from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its portico was fifty cubits.H6440H8179H2978H6440H197H6442H8179H2572H520
16The alcoves and the projecting walls inside the gateway were surmounted by narrow parapet openings all around, as was the portico; the openings all around faced inward. The faces of the projecting walls were decorated with palm trees.H331H2474H8372H352H6441H8179H5439H361H2474H5439H6441H352H8561
17Then he brought me into the outer court. There I saw some rooms and a pavement that had been constructed all around the court; there were thirty rooms along the pavement.H935H2435H2691H3957H7531H6213H2691H5439H7970H3957H7531
18It abutted the sides of the gateways and was as wide as they were long; this was the lower pavement.H7531H3802H8179H5980H753H8179H8481H7531
19Then he measured the distance from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court; it was a hundred cubits on the east side as well as on the north.H4058H7341H6440H8481H8179H6440H6442H2691H2351H3967H520H6921H6828
20Then he measured the length and width of the gate facing north, leading into the outer court.H8179H2435H2691H6440H1870H6828H4058H753H7341
21Its alcoves--three on each side--its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as those of the first gateway. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.H8372H7969H7969H352H361H4060H7223H8179H753H2572H520H7341H2568H6242H520
22Its openings, its portico and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them.H2474H361H8561H4060H8179H6440H1870H6921H5927H7651H4609H361H6440
23There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured from one gate to the opposite one; it was a hundred cubits.H8179H6442H2691H8179H6828H6921H4058H8179H8179H3967H520
24Then he led me to the south side and I saw a gate facing south. He measured its jambs and its portico, and they had the same measurements as the others.H3212H1870H1864H8179H1870H1864H4058H352H361H4060
25The gateway and its portico had narrow openings all around, like the openings of the others. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.H2474H361H5439H2474H753H2572H520H7341H2568H6242H520
26Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them; it had palm tree decorations on the faces of the projecting walls on each side.H7651H4609H5930H361H6440H8561H259H259H352
27The inner court also had a gate facing south, and he measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side; it was a hundred cubits.H8179H6442H2691H1870H1864H4058H8179H8179H1870H1864H3967H520
28Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate; it had the same measurements as the others.H935H6442H2691H1864H8179H4058H1864H8179H4060
29Its alcoves, its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.H8372H352H361H4060H2474H361H5439H2572H520H753H2568H6242H520H7341
30(The porticoes of the gateways around the inner court were twenty-five cubits wide and five cubits deep.)H361H5439H2568H6242H520H753H2568H520H7341
31Its portico faced the outer court; palm trees decorated its jambs, and eight steps led up to it.H361H2435H2691H8561H352H4608H8083H4609
32Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gateway; it had the same measurements as the others.H935H6442H2691H1870H6921H4058H8179H4060
33Its alcoves, its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.H8372H352H361H4060H2474H361H5439H2572H520H753H2568H6242H520H7341
34Its portico faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.H361H2435H2691H8561H352H4608H8083H4609
35Then he brought me to the north gate and measured it. It had the same measurements as the others,H935H6828H8179H4058H4060
36as did its alcoves, its projecting walls and its portico, and it had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.H8372H352H361H2474H5439H753H2572H520H7341H2568H6242H520
37Its portico faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.H352H2435H2691H8561H352H4608H8083H4609
38A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings were washed.H3957H6607H352H8179H1740H5930
39In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings, sin offerings and guilt offerings were slaughtered.H197H8179H8147H7979H7979H7819H5930H2403H817
40By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance to the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables.H3802H2351H5927H6607H6828H8179H8147H7979H312H3802H197H8179H8147H7979
41So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other--eight tables in all--on which the sacrifices were slaughtered.H702H7979H702H7979H3802H8179H8083H7979H7819
42There were also four tables of dressed stone for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high. On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.H702H7979H1496H68H5930H520H2677H753H520H2677H7341H259H520H1363H3240H3627H7819H5930H2077
43And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.H1004H8240H259H2948H3559H5439H7979H1320H7133
44Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south gate and facing north.H2351H6442H8179H3957H7891H6442H2691H3802H6828H8179H6440H1870H1864H259H3802H6921H8179H6440H1870H6828
45He said to me, "The room facing south is for the priests who have charge of the temple,H1696H2090H3957H6440H1870H1864H3548H8104H4931H1004
46and the room facing north is for the priests who have charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who are the only Levites who may draw near to the LORD to minister before him."H3957H6440H1870H6828H3548H8104H4931H4196H1121H6659H1121H3878H7131H3068H8334
47Then he measured the court: It was square--a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.H4058H2691H3967H520H753H3967H520H7341H7251H4196H6440H1004
48He brought me to the portico of the temple and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits and its projecting walls were three cubits wide on either side.H935H197H1004H4058H352H197H2568H520H2568H520H7341H8179H7969H520H7969H520
49The portico was twenty cubits wide, and twelve cubits from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs, and there were pillars on each side of the jambs.H753H197H6242H520H7341H6249H6240H520H4609H5927H5982H352H259H259
