The Doom of Sodom

19Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw [them,] he rose to meet them and bowed down [with his] face to the ground.H935H8147H4397H5467H6153H3876H3427H8179H5467H3876H7200H6965H7125H7812H639H776 2And he said, "Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way." They said however, "No, but we shall spend the night in the square."H559H113H5493H5650H1004H3885H7364H7272H7925H1980H1870H559H3885H7339H3885 3Yet he urged them strongly, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.H6484H3966H5493H935H1004H6213H4960H644H4682H398 4Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter;H7901H582H5892H582H5467H5437H1004H5437H2205H5288H5971H7097 5and they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them."H7121H3876H559H582H935H3915H3318H3045 6But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him,H3876H3318H6607H5462H1817H310 7and said, "Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly.H559H251H7489 8"Now behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come under the shelter of my roof."H8147H1323H3045H376H3318H6213H2896H5869H411H582H6213H408H1697H935H6738H6982 9But they said, "Stand aside." Furthermore, they said, "This one came in as an alien, and already he is acting like a judge; now we will treat you worse than them." So they pressed hard against Lot and came near to break the door.H559H5066H1973H559H259H935H1481H8199H8199H7489H6484H3966H376H3876H5066H7665H1817 10But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.H582H7971H3027H935H3876H1004H5462H1817 11And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied [themselves trying] to find the doorway.H5221H582H6607H1004H5575H6996H1419H3811H4672H6607 12Then the men said to Lot, "Whom else have you here? A son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whomever you have in the city, bring [them] out of the place;H582H559H3876H6311H4310H2860H1121H1323H834H5892H3318H4725 13for we are about to destroy this place, because their outcry has become so great before the LORD that the LORD has sent us to destroy it. "H587H7843H853H4725H6818H1431H854H6440H3068H3068H7971H7843 14And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, and said, "Up, get out of this place, for the LORD will destroy the city." But he appeared to his sons-in-law to be jesting.H3876H3318H1696H2860H3947H1323H559H6965H3318H4725H3068H7843H5892H6711H5869H2860 15And when morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up, take your wife and your two daughters, who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city."H3644H7837H5927H4397H213H3876H559H6965H3947H802H8147H1323H4672H5595H5771H5892 16But he hesitated. So the men seized his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, for the compassion of the LORD [> was] upon him; and they brought him out, and put him outside the city.H4102H582H2388H3027H3027H802H3027H8147H1323H3068H2551H3318H3240H2351H5892 17And it came about when they had brought them outside, that one said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the valley; escape to the mountains, lest you be swept away."H3318H2351H559H4422H5921H5315H5027H310H5975H3603H4422H2022H5595 18But Lot said to them, "Oh no, my lords!H3876H559H113 19"Now behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your lovingkindness, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest the disaster overtake me and I die;H5650H4672H2580H5869H1431H2617H6213H5978H2421H5315H3201H4422H2022H7451H1692H4191 20now behold, this town is near [enough] to flee to, and it is small. Please, let me escape there (is it not small?) that my life may be saved. "H5892H7138H5127H1931H4705H4422H4705H5315H2421 21And he said to him, "Behold, I grant you this request also, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken.H559H2009H5375H6440H1697H2015H5892H834H1696 22"Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the town was called Zoar.H4116H4422H3201H6213H1697H935H8034H5892H7121H6820 23The sun had risen over the earth when Lot came to Zoar.H8121H3318H776H3876H935H6820 24Then the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven,H3068H4305H5467H6017H1614H784H3068H8064 25and He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.H2015H411H5892H3603H3427H5892H6780H127 26But his wife, from behind him, looked [back;] and she became a pillar of salt.H802H5027H310H5333H4417 27Now Abraham arose early in the morning [and went] to the place where he had stood before the LORD;H85H7925H1242H4725H5975H6440H3068 28and he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the valley, and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land ascended like the smoke of a furnace.H8259H6440H5467H6017H6440H776H3603H7200H7008H776H5927H7008H3536 29Thus it came about, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.H430H7843H5892H3603H430H2142H85H7971H3876H8432H2018H2015H5892H2004H3876H3427

Lot Is Debased

30And Lot went up from Zoar, and stayed in the mountains, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters.H3876H5927H6820H3427H2022H8147H1323H3372H3427H6820H3427H4631H8147H1323 31Then the first-born said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of the earth.H1067H559H6810H1H2204H376H776H935H1870H776 32"Come, let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father."H3212H8248H1H8248H3196H7901H2421H2233H1 33So they made their father drink wine that night, and the first-born went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.H8248H1H8248H3196H3915H1067H935H7901H1H3045H7901H6965 34And it came about on the morrow, that the first-born said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father."H4283H1067H559H6810H7901H570H1H8248H3196H3915H935H7901H2421H2233H1 35So they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.H8248H1H8248H3196H1931H3915H6810H6965H7901H3045H7901H6965 36Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.H8147H1323H3876H2029H1 37And the first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.H1067H3205H1121H7121H8034H4124H1931H1H4124H3117 38And as for the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.H6810H3205H1121H7121H8034H1151H1H1121H5983H3117
