Sodom’s Depravity

19Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.H935H8147H4397H5467H6153H3876H3427H8179H5467H3876H7200H6965H7125H7812H639H776 2And he said, "Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant's house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way." And they said, "No, but we will spend the night in the open square."H559H113H5493H5650H1004H3885H7364H7272H7925H1980H1870H559H3885H7339H3885 3But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.H6484H3966H5493H935H1004H6213H4960H644H4682H398 4Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.H7901H582H5892H582H5467H5437H1004H5437H2205H5288H5971H7097 5And they called to Lot and said to him, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally."H7121H3876H559H582H935H3915H3318H3045 6So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him,H3876H3318H6607H5462H1817H310 7and said, "Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!H559H251H7489 8"See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof."H8147H1323H3045H376H3318H6213H2896H5869H411H582H6213H408H1697H935H6738H6982 9And they said, "Stand back!" Then they said, "This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them." So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.H559H5066H1973H559H259H935H1481H8199H8199H7489H6484H3966H376H3876H5066H7665H1817 10But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.H582H7971H3027H935H3876H1004H5462H1817 11And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.H5221H582H6607H1004H5575H6996H1419H3811H4672H6607

Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed

12Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place!H582H559H3876H6311H4310H2860H1121H1323H834H5892H3318H4725 13"For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it."H587H7843H853H4725H6818H1431H854H6440H3068H3068H7971H7843 14So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, "Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!" But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.H3876H3318H1696H2860H3947H1323H559H6965H3318H4725H3068H7843H5892H6711H5869H2860 15When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, "Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city."H3644H7837H5927H4397H213H3876H559H6965H3947H802H8147H1323H4672H5595H5771H5892 16And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife's hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.H4102H582H2388H3027H3027H802H3027H8147H1323H3068H2551H3318H3240H2351H5892 17So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, "Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed."H3318H2351H559H4422H5921H5315H5027H310H5975H3603H4422H2022H5595 18Then Lot said to them, "Please, no, my lords!H3876H559H113 19"Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.H5650H4672H2580H5869H1431H2617H6213H5978H2421H5315H3201H4422H2022H7451H1692H4191 20"See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live."H5892H7138H5127H1931H4705H4422H4705H5315H2421 21And he said to him, "See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.H559H2009H5375H6440H1697H2015H5892H834H1696 22"Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.H4116H4422H3201H6213H1697H935H8034H5892H7121H6820 23The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.H8121H3318H776H3876H935H6820 24Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.H3068H4305H5467H6017H1614H784H3068H8064 25So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.H2015H411H5892H3603H3427H5892H6780H127 26But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.H802H5027H310H5333H4417 27And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD.H85H7925H1242H4725H5975H6440H3068 28Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace.H8259H6440H5467H6017H6440H776H3603H7200H7008H776H5927H7008H3536 29And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.H430H7843H5892H3603H430H2142H85H7971H3876H8432H2018H2015H5892H2004H3876H3427

The Descendants of Lot

30Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.H3876H5927H6820H3427H2022H8147H1323H3372H3427H6820H3427H4631H8147H1323 31Now the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth.H1067H559H6810H1H2204H376H776H935H1870H776 32"Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father."H3212H8248H1H8248H3196H7901H2421H2233H1 33So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.H8248H1H8248H3196H3915H1067H935H7901H1H3045H7901H6965 34It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, "Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father."H4283H1067H559H6810H7901H570H1H8248H3196H3915H935H7901H2421H2233H1 35Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.H8248H1H8248H3196H1931H3915H6810H6965H7901H3045H7901H6965 36Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.H8147H1323H3876H2029H1 37The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.H1067H3205H1121H7121H8034H4124H1931H1H4124H3117 38And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.H6810H3205H1121H7121H8034H1151H1H1121H5983H3117
