Jacob’s Deception

27Now it came about, when Isaac was old, and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called his older son Esau and said to him, "My son." And he said to him, "Here I am."H1961H3327H2204H5869H3543H7200H7121H6215H1419H1121H559H1121H559 2And Isaac said, "Behold now, I am old [and] I do not know the day of my death.H559H2204H3045H3117H4194 3"Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me;H5375H3627H8522H7198H3318H7704H6679H6718H6720 4and prepare a savory dish for me such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die. "H6213H4303H834H157H935H398H5315H1288H2962H4191 5And Rebekah was listening while Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game to bring [home,]H7259H8085H3327H1696H6215H1121H6215H3212H7704H6679H6718H935 6Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "Behold, I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, saying,H7259H559H3290H1121H559H8085H1H1696H6215H251H559 7'Bring me [some] game and prepare a savory dish for me, that I may eat, and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death.'H935H6718H6213H4303H398H1288H6440H3068H6440H4194 8"Now therefore, my son, listen to me as I command you.H1121H8085H6963H834H6680 9"Go now to the flock and bring me two choice kids from there, that I may prepare them [as] a savory dish for your father, such as he loves.H3212H6629H3947H8147H2896H1423H5795H6213H4303H1H157 10"Then you shall bring [it] to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."H935H1H398H834H1288H6440H4194 11And Jacob answered his mother Rebekah, "Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man.H3290H559H7259H517H6215H251H8163H376H2509H376 12"Perhaps my father will feel me, then I shall be as a deceiver in his sight; and I shall bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing."H1H4959H5869H8591H935H7045H1293 13But his mother said to him, "Your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get [them] for me."H517H559H7045H1121H8085H6963H3212H3947 14So he went and got [them,] and brought [them] to his mother; and his mother made savory food such as his father loved.H3212H3947H935H517H517H6213H4303H1H157 15Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.H7259H3947H2532H899H1419H1121H6215H1004H3847H3290H6996H1121 16And she put the skins of the kids on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.H3847H5785H1423H5795H3027H2513H6677 17She also gave the savory food and the bread, which she had made, to her son Jacob.H5414H4303H3899H6213H3027H1121H3290 18Then he came to his father and said, "My father." And he said, " Here I am. Who are you, my son? "H935H1H559H1H559H1121 19And Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your first-born; I have done as you told me. Get up, please, sit and eat of my game, that you may bless me."H3290H559H1H6215H1060H6213H1696H6965H3427H398H6718H5315H1288 20And Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have [it] so quickly, my son?" And he said, "Because the LORD your God caused [it] to happen to me."H3327H559H1121H4672H4116H1121H559H3068H430H7136H6440 21Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come close, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not."H3327H559H3290H5066H4184H1121H2088H1121H6215 22So Jacob came close to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, " The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau. "H3290H5066H3327H1H4959H559H6963H3290H6963H3027H3027H6215 23And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.H5234H3027H8163H251H6215H3027H1288 24And he said, "Are you really my son Esau?" And he said, "I am."H559H1121H6215H559 25So he said, "Bring [it] to me, and I will eat of my son's game, that I may bless you." And he brought [it] to him, and he ate; he also brought him wine and he drank.H559H5066H398H1121H6718H5315H1288H5066H398H935H3196H8354 26Then his father Isaac said to him, "Please come close and kiss me, my son."H1H3327H559H5066H5401H1121 27So he came close and kissed him; and when he smelled the smell of his garments, he blessed him and said, "See, the smell of my son Is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed;H5066H5401H7306H7381H899H1288H559H7200H7381H1121H7381H7704H3068H1288 28Now may God give you of the dew of heaven, And of the fatness of the earth, And an abundance of grain and new wine;H430H5414H2919H8064H4924H776H7230H1715H8492 29May peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you; Be master of your brothers, And may your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be those who curse you, And blessed be those who bless you. "H5971H5647H3816H7812H1933H1376H251H517H1121H7812H779H779H1288H1288

The Stolen Blessing

30Now it came about, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had hardly gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.H3327H3615H1288H3290H3290H389H3318H3318H6440H3327H1H6215H251H935H6718 31Then he also made savory food, and brought it to his father; and he said to his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's game, that you may bless me."H6213H4303H935H1H559H1H1H6965H398H1121H6718H5315H1288 32And Isaac his father said to him, "Who are you?" And he said, "I am your son, your first-born, Esau."H3327H1H559H559H1121H1060H6215 33Then Isaac trembled violently, and said, "Who was he then that hunted game and brought [it] to me, so that I ate of all [of it] before you came, and blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed."H3327H2729H1419H3966H2731H559H645H6679H6718H935H398H935H1288H1288 34When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me, [even] me also, O my father!"H6215H8085H1697H1H6817H1419H3966H4751H6818H559H1H1288H1 35And he said, "Your brother came deceitfully, and has taken away your blessing."H559H251H935H4820H3947H1293 36Then he said, "Is he not rightly named Jacob, for he has supplanted me these two times? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing." And he said, "Have you not reserved a blessing for me?"H559H3588H7121H8034H3290H6117H2088H6471H3947H1062H3947H1293H559H680H1293 37But Isaac answered and said to Esau, "Behold, I have made him your master, and all his relatives I have given to him as servants; and with grain and new wine I have sustained him. Now as for you then, what can I do, my son?"H3327H6030H559H6215H7760H1376H251H5414H5650H1715H8492H5564H6213H645H1121 38And Esau said to his father, "Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me, [even] me also, O my father." So Esau lifted his voice and wept.H6215H559H1H259H1293H1H1288H1H6215H5375H6963H1058 39Then Isaac his father answered and said to him, "Behold, away from the fertility of the earth shall be your dwelling, And away from the dew of heaven from above.H3327H1H6030H559H4186H4924H776H2919H8064H5920 40"And by your sword you shall live, And your brother you shall serve; But it shall come about when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck."H2719H2421H5647H251H7300H6561H5923H6677 41So Esau bore a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said to himself, "The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob."H6215H7852H3290H5921H1293H834H1H1288H6215H559H3820H3117H60H1H7126H2026H251H3290 42Now when the words of her elder son Esau were reported to Rebekah, she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, "Behold your brother Esau is consoling himself concerning you, [by planning] to kill you.H1697H6215H1419H1121H5046H7259H7971H7121H3290H6996H1121H559H251H6215H5162H2026 43"Now therefore, my son, obey my voice, and arise, flee to Haran, to my brother Laban!H1121H8085H6963H6965H1272H3837H251H2771 44"And stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury subsides,H3427H259H3117H834H251H2534H7725 45until your brother's anger against you subsides, and he forgets what you did to him. Then I shall send and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day? "H251H639H7725H7911H6213H7971H3947H4100H7921H8147H259H3117 46And Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am tired of living because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of Heth, like these, from the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?"H7259H559H3327H6973H2416H6440H1323H2845H3290H3947H802H1323H2845H1323H776H4100H2416
