Isaac Blesses Jacob

27Now it came to pass, when Isaac was old and his eyes were so dim that he could not see, that he called Esau his older son and said to him, "My son." And he answered him, "Here I am."H1961H3327H2204H5869H3543H7200H7121H6215H1419H1121H559H1121H559 2Then he said, "Behold now, I am old. I do not know the day of my death.H559H2204H3045H3117H4194 3"Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.H5375H3627H8522H7198H3318H7704H6679H6718H6720 4"And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die."H6213H4303H834H157H935H398H5315H1288H2962H4191 5Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it.H7259H8085H3327H1696H6215H1121H6215H3212H7704H6679H6718H935 6So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, "Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,H7259H559H3290H1121H559H8085H1H1696H6215H251H559 7'Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death.'H935H6718H6213H4303H398H1288H6440H3068H6440H4194 8"Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you.H1121H8085H6963H834H6680 9"Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves.H3212H6629H3947H8147H2896H1423H5795H6213H4303H1H157 10"Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death."H935H1H398H834H1288H6440H4194 11And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man.H3290H559H7259H517H6215H251H8163H376H2509H376 12"Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be a deceiver to him; and I shall bring a curse on myself and not a blessing."H1H4959H5869H8591H935H7045H1293 13But his mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me."H517H559H7045H1121H8085H6963H3212H3947 14And he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made savory food, such as his father loved.H3212H3947H935H517H517H6213H4303H1H157 15Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.H7259H3947H2532H899H1419H1121H6215H1004H3847H3290H6996H1121 16And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.H3847H5785H1423H5795H3027H2513H6677 17Then she gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.H5414H4303H3899H6213H3027H1121H3290 18So he went to his father and said, "My father.' And he said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?"H935H1H559H1H559H1121 19Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn; I have done just as you told me; please arise, sit and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me."H3290H559H1H6215H1060H6213H1696H6965H3427H398H6718H5315H1288 20But Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" And he said, "Because the LORD your God brought it to me."H3327H559H1121H4672H4116H1121H559H3068H430H7136H6440 21Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not."H3327H559H3290H5066H4184H1121H2088H1121H6215 22So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau."H3290H5066H3327H1H4959H559H6963H3290H6963H3027H3027H6215 23And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.H5234H3027H8163H251H6215H3027H1288 24Then he said, "Are you really my son Esau?" He said, "I am."H559H1121H6215H559 25He said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's game, so that my soul may bless you." So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.H559H5066H398H1121H6718H5315H1288H5066H398H935H3196H8354 26Then his father Isaac said to him, "Come near now and kiss me, my son."H1H3327H559H5066H5401H1121 27And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said: "Surely, the smell of my son Is like the smell of a field Which the LORD has blessed.H5066H5401H7306H7381H899H1288H559H7200H7381H1121H7381H7704H3068H1288 28Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of grain and wine.H430H5414H2919H8064H4924H776H7230H1715H8492 29Let peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, And let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, And blessed be those who bless you!"H5971H5647H3816H7812H1933H1376H251H517H1121H7812H779H779H1288H1288

Esau’s Lost Hope

30Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.H3327H3615H1288H3290H3290H389H3318H3318H6440H3327H1H6215H251H935H6718 31He also had made savory food, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, "Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me."H6213H4303H935H1H559H1H1H6965H398H1121H6718H5315H1288 32And his father Isaac said to him, "Who are you?" So he said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esau."H3327H1H559H559H1121H1060H6215 33Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, "Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him—and indeed he shall be blessed."H3327H2729H1419H3966H2731H559H645H6679H6718H935H398H935H1288H1288 34When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me—me also, O my father!"H6215H8085H1697H1H6817H1419H3966H4751H6818H559H1H1288H1 35But he said, "Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing."H559H251H935H4820H3947H1293 36And Esau said, "Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!" And he said, "Have you not reserved a blessing for me?"H559H3588H7121H8034H3290H6117H2088H6471H3947H1062H3947H1293H559H680H1293 37Then Isaac answered and said to Esau, "Indeed I have made him your master, and all his brethren I have given to him as servants; with grain and wine I have sustained him. What shall I do now for you, my son?"H3327H6030H559H6215H7760H1376H251H5414H5650H1715H8492H5564H6213H645H1121 38And Esau said to his father, "Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!" And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.H6215H559H1H259H1293H1H1288H1H6215H5375H6963H1058 39Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: "Behold, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, And of the dew of heaven from above.H3327H1H6030H559H4186H4924H776H2919H8064H5920 40By your sword you shall live, And you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck."H2719H2421H5647H251H7300H6561H5923H6677

Jacob Escapes from Esau

41So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob."H6215H7852H3290H5921H1293H834H1H1288H6215H559H3820H3117H60H1H7126H2026H251H3290 42And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, "Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you.H1697H6215H1419H1121H5046H7259H7971H7121H3290H6996H1121H559H251H6215H5162H2026 43"Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran.H1121H8085H6963H6965H1272H3837H251H2771 44"And stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away,H3427H259H3117H834H251H2534H7725 45"until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?"H251H639H7725H7911H6213H7971H3947H4100H7921H8147H259H3117 46And Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these who are the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?"H7259H559H3327H6973H2416H6440H1323H2845H3290H3947H802H1323H2845H1323H776H4100H2416
