Jacob Meets Rachel

29Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the sons of the east.H3290H5375H7272H3212H776H1121H6924
2And he looked, and saw a well in the field, and behold, three flocks of sheep were lying there beside it, for from that well they watered the flocks. Now the stone on the mouth of the well was large.H7200H875H7704H7969H5739H6629H7257H875H8248H5739H1419H68H875H6310
3When all the flocks were gathered there, they would then roll the stone from the mouth of the well, and water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the mouth of the well.H5739H622H1556H68H875H6310H8248H6629H7725H68H7725H875H6310H4725
4And Jacob said to them, "My brothers, where are you from?" And they said, "We are from Haran."H3290H559H251H370H559H2771
5And he said to them, "Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?" And they said, "We know [him.]"H559H3045H3837H1121H5152H559H3045
6And he said to them, "Is it well with him?" And they said, "It is well, and behold, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep."H559H7965H559H7965H7354H1323H935H6629
7And he said, "Behold, it is still high day; it is not time for the livestock to be gathered. Water the sheep, and go, pasture them."H559H2005H1419H3117H6256H4735H622H8248H6629H3212H7462
8But they said, "We cannot, until all the flocks are gathered, and they roll the stone from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep."H559H3201H5739H622H1556H68H875H6310H8248H6629
9While he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she was a shepherdess.H5750H1696H7354H935H1H6629H7462
10And it came about, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went up, and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.H3290H7200H7354H1323H3837H517H251H6629H3837H517H251H3290H5066H1556H68H875H6310H8248H6629H3837H517H251
11Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted his voice and wept.H3290H5401H7354H5375H6963H1058
12And Jacob told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and that he was Rebekah's son, and she ran and told her father.H3290H5046H7354H1H251H7259H1121H7323H5046H1
13So it came about, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Then he related to Laban all these things.H3837H8085H8088H3290H269H1121H7323H7125H2263H5401H935H1004H5608H3837H1697
14And Laban said to him, "Surely you are my bone and my flesh." And he stayed with him a month.H3837H559H389H6106H1320H3427H3117H2320
15Then Laban said to Jacob, "Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?"H3837H559H3290H251H5647H2600H5046H4909
16Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.H3837H8147H1323H8034H1419H3812H8034H6996H7354
17And Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful of form and face.H3812H7390H5869H7354H3303H8389H3303H4758
18Now Jacob loved Rachel, so he said, "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel."H3290H157H7354H559H5647H7651H8141H7354H6996H1323
19And Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man; stay with me."H3837H559H2896H5414H5414H312H376H3427
20So Jacob served seven years for Rachel and they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her.H3290H5647H7651H8141H7354H5869H259H3117H160

Laban’s Treachery

21Then Jacob said to Laban, "Give [me] my wife, for my time is completed, that I may go in to her."H3290H559H3837H3051H802H3117H4390H935
22And Laban gathered all the men of the place, and made a feast.H3837H622H582H4725H6213H4960
23Now it came about in the evening that he took his daughter Leah, and brought her to him; and [Jacob] went in to her.H6153H3947H3812H1323H935H935
24Laban also gave his maid Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid.H3837H5414H1323H3812H2153H8198H8198
25So it came about in the morning that, behold, it was Leah! And he said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? Why then have you deceived me?"H1242H3812H559H3837H6213H5647H7354H7411
26But Laban said, "It is not the practice in our place, to marry off the younger before the first-born.H3837H559H6213H4725H5414H6810H6440H1067
27"Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you shall serve with me for another seven years."H4390H2063H7620H5414H5656H5647H7651H312H8141
28And Jacob did so and completed her week, and he gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.H3290H6213H4390H7620H5414H7354H1323H802
29Laban also gave his maid Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maid.H3837H5414H7354H1323H1090H8198H8198
30So [Jacob] went in to Rachel also, and indeed he loved Rachel more than Leah, and he served with Laban for another seven years.H935H7354H157H7354H3812H5647H7651H312H8141
31Now the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.H3068H7200H3812H8130H6605H7358H7354H6135
32And Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, for she said, "Because the LORD has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me."H3812H2029H3205H1121H7121H8034H7205H3588H559H3588H3068H7200H6040H3588H376H157
33Then she conceived again and bore a son and said, "Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this [son] also." So she named him Simeon.H2029H3205H1121H559H3068H8085H8130H5414H7121H8034H8095
34And she conceived again and bore a son and said, "Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons." Therefore he was named Levi.H2029H3205H1121H559H6471H376H3867H3205H7969H1121H8034H7121H3878
35And she conceived again and bore a son and said, "This time I will praise the LORD." Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.H2029H3205H1121H559H6471H3034H3068H7121H8034H3063H5975H3205
