Jacob became angry with Rachel and said, "Am I in God's place, who has withheld children from you?"H3290H639H2734H7354H559H430H4513H6529H990
Then she said, "Here is my slave Bilhah. Go sleep with her, and she'll bear [children] for me so that through her I too can build [a family]."H559H519H1090H935H3205H1290H1129
So Rachel gave her slave Bilhah to Jacob as a wife, and he slept with her.H5414H1090H8198H802H3290H935

Rachel said, "God has vindicated me; yes, He has heard me and given me a son," and she named him Dan.H7354H559H430H1777H8085H6963H5414H1121H7121H8034H1835

Rachel said, "In [my] wrestlings with God, I have wrestled with my sister and won," and she named him Naphtali.H7354H559H430H5319H6617H269H3201H7121H8034H5321
When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.H3812H7200H5975H3205H3947H2153H8198H5414H3290H802
Leah's slave Zilpah bore Jacob a son.H2153H3812H8198H3205H3290H1121
Then Leah said, "What good fortune!" and she named him Gad.H3812H559H1409H935H7121H8034H1410
When Leah's slave Zilpah bore Jacob a second son,H2153H3812H8198H3205H3290H8145H1121
Leah said, "I am happy that the women call me happy," so she named him Asher.H3812H559H837H1323H833H7121H8034H836
Reuben went out during the wheat harvest and found some mandrakes in the field. When he brought them to his mother Leah, Rachel asked, "Please give me some of your son's mandrakes."H7205H3212H3117H2406H7105H4672H1736H7704H935H517H3812H7354H559H3812H5414H1121H1736
But Leah replied to her, "Isn't it enough that you have taken my husband? Now you also want to take my son's mandrakes?" "Well," Rachel said, "you can sleep with him tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes."H559H4592H3947H376H3947H1121H1736H7354H559H7901H3915H8478H1121H1736
When Jacob came in from the field that evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, "You must come with me, for I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." So Jacob slept with her that night.H3290H935H7704H6153H3812H3318H7125H559H935H7936H7936H1121H1736H7901H3915
God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.H430H8085H3812H2029H3205H3290H2549H1121
Leah said, "God has rewarded me for giving my slave to my husband," and she named him Issachar.H3812H559H430H5414H7939H834H5414H8198H376H7121H8034H3485
Then Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.H3812H2029H3205H3290H8345H1121
"God has given me a good gift," Leah said. "This time my husband will honor me because I have borne him six sons," and she named him Zebulun.H3812H559H430H2064H2896H2065H6471H376H2082H3205H8337H1121H7121H8034H2074
Later, Leah bore a daughter and named her Dinah.H310H3205H1323H7121H8034H1783
Then God remembered Rachel. He listened to her and opened her womb.H430H2142H7354H430H8085H6605H7358
She conceived and bore a son, and said, "God has taken away my shame."H2029H3205H1121H559H430H622H2781

Jacob’s Flocks Multiply

After Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me on my way so that I can return to my homeland.H7354H3205H3130H3290H559H3837H7971H3212H4725H776
Give me my wives and my children that I have worked for, and let me go. You know how hard I have worked for you."H5414H802H3206H2004H5647H3212H3045H5656H5647
But Laban said to him, "If I have found favor in your sight, [stay.] I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you."H3837H559H4672H2580H5869H5172H3068H1288H1558
Then Laban said, "Name your wages, and I will pay them."H559H5344H7939H5414
So Jacob said to him, "You know what I have done for you and your herds.H559H3045H834H5647H834H4735
For you had very little before I came, but now your wealth has increased. The LORD has blessed you because of me. And now, when will I also do something for my own family?"H4592H6440H6555H7230H3068H1288H7272H4970H6213H1004
Laban asked, "What should I give you?" And Jacob said, "You don't need to give me anything. If you do this one thing for me, I will continue to shepherd and keep your flock.H559H5414H3290H559H5414H3972H6213H1697H7725H7462H8104H6629
Let me go through all your sheep today and remove every sheep that is speckled or spotted, every dark-colored sheep among the lambs, and the spotted and speckled among the female goats. [Such] will be my wages.H5674H6629H3117H5493H5348H2921H7716H2345H7716H3775H2921H5348H5795H7939
In the future when you come to check on my wages, my honesty will testify for me. [If I have] any female goats that are not speckled or spotted, or any lambs that are not black, they will be considered stolen."H6666H6030H3117H4279H935H7939H6440H3605H5348H2921H5795H2345H3775H1589
"Good," said Laban. "Let it be as you have said."H3837H559H3863H1697
That day Laban removed the streaked and spotted male goats and all the speckled and spotted female goats— every one that had any white on it— and every dark-colored sheep among the lambs, and he placed his sons in charge of them.H5493H3117H8495H6124H2921H5795H5348H2921H3836H2345H3775H5414H3027H1121
He put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob. Jacob, meanwhile, was shepherding the rest of Laban's flock.H7760H7969H3117H1870H3290H3290H7462H3498H3837H6629
Jacob then took branches of fresh poplar, almond, and plane wood, and peeled [the bark], exposing white stripes on the branches.H3290H3947H4731H3892H3839H3869H6196H6478H3836H6479H3836H4286H4731
He set the peeled branches in the troughs in front of the sheep— in the water channels where the sheep came to drink. And the sheep bred when they came to drink.H3322H4731H6478H5227H6629H7298H4325H8268H6629H935H8354H3179H935H8354
The flocks bred in front of the branches and bore streaked, speckled, and spotted young.H6629H3179H4731H3205H6629H6124H5348H2921
Jacob separated the lambs and made the flocks face the streaked and the completely dark sheep in Laban's flocks. Then he set his own stock apart and didn't put them with Laban's sheep.H3290H6504H3775H5414H6440H6629H413H6124H2345H6629H3837H7896H5739H7896H3837H6629
Whenever the stronger of the flock were breeding, Jacob placed the branches in the troughs, in full view of the flocks, and they would breed in front of the branches.H7194H6629H3179H3290H7760H4731H5869H6629H7298H3179H4731
As for the weaklings of the flocks, he did not put out the branches. So it turned out that the weak sheep belonged to Laban and the stronger ones to Jacob.H6629H5848H7760H5848H3837H7194H3290
And the man became very rich. He had many flocks, male and female slaves, and camels and donkeys.H376H6555H3966H3966H7227H6629H8198H5650H1581H2543
