Jacob Meets Esau

33Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids.H3290H5375H5869H7200H6215H935H702H3967H376H2673H3206H3812H7354H8147H8198 2And he put the maids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.H7760H8198H3206H7223H3812H3206H314H7354H3130H314 3But he himself passed on ahead of them and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.H5674H6440H7812H776H7651H6471H5066H251 4Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.H6215H7323H7125H2263H5307H6677H5401H1058 5And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are these with you?" So he said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant."H5375H5869H7200H802H3206H559H428H559H3206H430H2603H5650 6Then the maids came near with their children, and they bowed down.H8198H5066H3206H7812 7And Leah likewise came near with her children, and they bowed down; and afterward Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed down.H3812H3206H5066H7812H310H5066H3130H5066H7354H7812 8And he said, "What do you mean by all this company which I have met?" And he said, "To find favor in the sight of my lord."H559H4264H6298H559H4672H2580H5869H113 9But Esau said, "I have plenty, my brother; let what you have be your own."H6215H559H3426H7227H251 10And Jacob said, "No, please, if now I have found favor in your sight, then take my present from my hand, for I see your face as one sees the face of God, and you have received me favorably.H3290H559H4672H2580H5869H3947H4503H3027H7200H6440H7200H6440H430H7521 11"Please take my gift which has been brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have plenty." Thus he urged him and he took [it.]H3947H1293H935H430H2603H3605H3426H3605H6484H3947 12Then Esau said, "Let us take our journey and go, and I will go before you."H559H5265H3212H3212 13But he said to him, "My lord knows that the children are frail and that the flocks and herds which are nursing are a care to me. And if they are driven hard one day, all the flocks will die.H559H113H3045H3206H7390H6629H1241H5763H1849H259H3117H6629H4191 14"Please let my lord pass on before his servant; and I will proceed at my leisure, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."H113H5674H6440H5650H5095H328H7272H4399H6440H3206H7272H935H113H8165 15And Esau said, "Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me." But he said, "What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord."H6215H559H3322H5971H559H4100H4672H2580H5869H113 16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.H6215H7725H3117H1870H8165 17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth; and built for himself a house, and made booths for his livestock, therefore the place is named Succoth.H3290H5265H5523H1129H1004H6213H5521H4735H8034H4725H7121H5523
