Make an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."H430H559H3290H6965H5927H1008H3427H6213H4196H410H7200H1272H6440H6215H251 2So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your clothes;H3290H559H1004H5493H5236H430H8432H2891H2498H8071 3then come, let us go up to Bethel, that I may make an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone."H6965H5927H1008H6213H4196H410H6030H3117H6869H1870H1980 4So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that they had, and the rings that were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak that was near Shechem.H5414H3290H5236H430H3027H5141H241H3290H2934H424H7927 5As they journeyed, a terror from God fell upon the cities all around them, so that no one pursued them.H5265H2847H430H5892H5439H7291H310H1121H3290 6Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,H3290H935H3870H776H3667H1008H5971 7and there he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because it was there that God had revealed himself to him when he fled from his brother.H1129H4196H7121H4725H416H430H1540H1272H6440H251 8And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried under an oak below Bethel. So it was called Allon-bacuth.H1683H7259H3243H4191H6912H1008H437H8034H7121H439 9God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-aram, and he blessed him.H430H7200H3290H935H6307H1288 10God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; no longer shall you be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." So he was called Israel.H430H559H8034H3290H8034H7121H3290H3478H8034H7121H8034H3478 11God said to him, "I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall spring from you.H430H559H410H7706H6509H7235H1471H6951H1471H4428H3318H2504 12The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will give the land to your offspring after you."H776H5414H85H3327H5414H2233H310H5414H776 13Then God went up from him at the place where he had spoken with him.H430H5927H4725H1696 14Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.H3290H5324H4676H4725H1696H4678H68H5258H5262H3332H8081 15So Jacob called the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.H3290H7121H8034H4725H430H1696H1008
