Return to Bethel

35God said to Jacob, "Get up! Go to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau."H430H559H3290H6965H5927H1008H3427H6213H4196H410H7200H1272H6440H6215H251 2So Jacob said to his family and all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that are among you. Purify yourselves and change your clothes.H3290H559H1004H5493H5236H430H8432H2891H2498H8071 3We must get up and go to Bethel. I will build an altar there to the God who answered me in my day of distress. He has been with me everywhere I have gone."H6965H5927H1008H6213H4196H410H6030H3117H6869H1870H1980 4Then they gave Jacob all their foreign gods and their earrings, and Jacob hid them under the oak near Shechem.H5414H3290H5236H430H3027H5141H241H3290H2934H424H7927 5When they set out, a terror from God came over the cities around them, and they did not pursue Jacob's sons.H5265H2847H430H5892H5439H7291H310H1121H3290 6So Jacob and all who were with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.H3290H935H3870H776H3667H1008H5971 7Jacob built an altar there and called the place God of Bethel because it was there that God had revealed Himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.H1129H4196H7121H4725H416H430H1540H1272H6440H251 8Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried under the oak south of Bethel. So Jacob named it Oak of Weeping.H1683H7259H3243H4191H6912H1008H437H8034H7121H439 9God appeared to Jacob again after he returned from Paddan-aram, and He blessed him.H430H7200H3290H935H6307H1288 10God said to him: Your name is Jacob; you will no longer be named Jacob, but Israel will be your name. So He named him Israel.H430H559H8034H3290H8034H7121H3290H3478H8034H7121H8034H3478 11God also said to him: I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations, will come from you, and kings will descend from you.H430H559H410H7706H6509H7235H1471H6951H1471H4428H3318H2504 12The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you. And I will give the land to your descendants after you.H776H5414H85H3327H5414H2233H310H5414H776 13Then God withdrew from him at the place where He had spoken to him.H430H5927H4725H1696 14Jacob set up a marker at the place where He had spoken to him— a stone marker. He poured a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.H3290H5324H4676H4725H1696H4678H68H5258H5262H3332H8081 15Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.H3290H7121H8034H4725H430H1696H1008
