Jacob’s Return to Bethel

35Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother."H430H559H3290H6965H5927H1008H3427H6213H4196H410H7200H1272H6440H6215H251 2And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.H3290H559H1004H5493H5236H430H8432H2891H2498H8071 3"Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone."H6965H5927H1008H6213H4196H410H6030H3117H6869H1870H1980 4So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.H5414H3290H5236H430H3027H5141H241H3290H2934H424H7927 5And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.H5265H2847H430H5892H5439H7291H310H1121H3290 6So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.H3290H935H3870H776H3667H1008H5971 7And he built an altar there and called the place El Bethel, because there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.H1129H4196H7121H4725H416H430H1540H1272H6440H251 8Now Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called Allon Bachuth.H1683H7259H3243H4191H6912H1008H437H8034H7121H439 9Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him.H430H7200H3290H935H6307H1288 10And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name." So He called his name Israel.H430H559H8034H3290H8034H7121H3290H3478H8034H7121H8034H3478 11Also God said to him: "I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.H430H559H410H7706H6509H7235H1471H6951H1471H4428H3318H2504 12"The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land."H776H5414H85H3327H5414H2233H310H5414H776 13Then God went up from him in the place where He talked with him.H430H5927H4725H1696 14So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.H3290H5324H4676H4725H1696H4678H68H5258H5262H3332H8081 15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.H3290H7121H8034H4725H430H1696H1008
