Joseph’s Success in Egypt

39Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the bodyguard, bought him from the Ishmaelites, who had taken him down there.H3130H3381H4714H6318H5631H6547H8269H2876H376H4713H7069H3027H3459H3381 2And the LORD was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.H3068H3130H6743H376H1004H113H4713 3Now his master saw that the LORD was with him and [how] the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.H113H7200H3068H3068H6213H6743H3027 4So Joseph found favor in his sight, and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge.H3130H4672H2580H5869H8334H6485H1004H3426H5414H3027 5And it came about that from the time he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house on account of Joseph; thus the Lord's blessing was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field.H227H6485H1004H3426H3068H1288H4713H1004H3130H1558H1293H3068H3426H1004H7704 6So he left everything he owned in Joseph's charge; and with him [there] he did not concern himself with anything except the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.H5800H3130H3027H3045H3972H518H3899H398H3130H8389H3303H4758 7And it came about after these events that his master's wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me."H310H1697H113H802H5375H5869H3130H559H7901 8But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, with me [here,] my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge.H3985H559H113H802H113H3045H1004H5414H3426H3027 9"There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?"H1419H1004H3808H2820H3972H834H859H802H6213H1419H7451H2398H430 10And it came about as she spoke to Joseph day after day, that he did not listen to her to lie beside her, [or] be with her.H1696H3130H3117H3117H8085H7901H681 11Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the household was there inside.H3117H935H1004H6213H4399H376H582H1004 12And she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me!" And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.H8610H899H559H7901H5800H899H3027H5127H3318H2351 13When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled outside,H7200H5800H899H3027H5127H2351 14she called to the men of her household, and said to them, "See, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to make sport of us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I screamed.H7121H582H1004H559H559H7200H935H376H5680H6711H935H7901H7121H1419H6963 15"And it came about when he heard that I raised my voice and screamed, that he left his garment beside me and fled, and went outside."H8085H7311H6963H7121H5800H899H681H5127H3318H2351 16So she left his garment beside her until his master came home.H3240H899H681H113H935H1004 17Then she spoke to him with these words, "The Hebrew slave, whom you brought to us, came in to me to make sport of me;H1696H1697H559H5680H5650H935H935H6711 18and it happened as I raised my voice and screamed, that he left his garment beside me and fled outside. "H7311H6963H7121H5800H899H681H5127H2351

Joseph Imprisoned

19Now it came about when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, "This is what your slave did to me," that his anger burned.H113H8085H1697H802H1696H559H1697H6213H5650H639H2734 20So Joseph's master took him and put him into the jail, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he was there in the jail.H3130H113H3947H5414H1004H5470H4725H4428H615H631H1004H5470 21But the LORD was with Joseph and extended kindness to him, and gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer.H3068H3130H5186H2617H5414H2580H5869H8269H1004H5470 22And the chief jailer committed to Joseph's charge all the prisoners who were in the jail; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible [for it.]H8269H1004H5470H5414H3130H3027H615H1004H5470H6213H6213 23The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph's charge because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper.H8269H1004H5470H7200H3972H3027H3068H6213H3068H6743
